I personally love the DS version, more because I was hyped as fuck for a handheld RE since the GBC one was announced. I played the multiplayer with my brother years ago and it's a fun little aside.

Survival horror on a handheld is lame and foolish, but beyond that the backgrounds look like angelfire jpegs with oversaturated color. Weak sound quality as well. That said, it's a fun time as long as you've already played through it on another platform.

There is no gamecube version, but there should have been. Capcom could have ported the original and included it with REmake as a bonus, but they dudn't.

Overall it seems simplistic to call one bad and the other good, even though the Original/Director's Cut is more successful in creating the vibe and emotional atmosphere of Suspense found in Italian horror soundtracks. The Dual Shock edition is more focused on cultivating a Mysterious feeling which adds a more lucid, organic or immediate element to its sound. The dual shock edition is more for player-centric thinking and puzzle-orientation, and the original edition is more for the oppressive atmosphere of dread.

It has a remixed mode with some new content but is basically the same as the original, with the exception of the knife not taking up an inventory slot and being mapped to one of the buttons which makes the game significantly easier. Granted, RE1 is not a difficult game compared to the later entries.

PC is too easy because it's the JP version and it doesn't let you play with the international difficulty like the RE2 and RE3 ports. Jill doesn't even need ink ribbons to save. I'd say play the NON-dualshock Director's Cut PS1 version, and play the classic REbirth patched versions of RE2 and RE3. Use the HD audio mods you can find on pcgamingwiki because the PC versions have lower audio quality

2nd play on a clear save in the PC version uses the harder US difficulty. I wish the modder would add a toggle for that or just cleared save files so you could play it from the start but it's not a huge deal. An auto aim toggle would be great too.

Not this fucking dickhead again. This geriatric Saturn fanboy tried UltraHLE in the 90's and thinks that's just what emulation is and hasn't progressed at all. I already gave a full technical explanation in a previous thread for why Resident Evil drawing a basic fucking tile isn't going to affect the viability of using an emulator for the test, which you also INSISTED had been used, by the way. Did the emulator redraw the all the art to look perfectly fucking sound? Did the emulator redraw it so the devices against the wall here (>>9730705) have monochrome reflections on the floor?

I like both soundtracks for the most part. I read somewhere that the weird basement track is possibly caused by a programming bug setting it to use the wrong set of synth instruments or something like that. I don't know how PS1 games were programmed so I have no idea how plausible that is.

yea really shows how much they cared about the end product, totally not a hackjob to add that one additional feature that might entice some to buy the game a 3rd time. i wonder why REmake was based on the original game's soundtrack and not the clearly superior dual shock version. man, what a mystery.

If it was a programming bug, then it likely happened when they were compiling the music files. Those instruments are part of the file for that specific music track, so it isn't an ingame issue.
