its barely a game. aside from the normal running/shooting, the majority of the gameplay is just set pieces that are essentially just minigames. take away the metal gear veneer and its essentially a mario party title in disguise. its fine for the first playthru (or if you want to revisit it years later) but its not something thats supposed to be played over and over. also, twin snakes is very, very gay. if you cant tell what is wrong with it after watching some of the cutscenes then it cant be explained to you.

Their big complaints is the cutscenes, but they neglect to tell you that the director Kojima hand picked for the Twin Snakes originally did all the cutscenese 1 for 1 with original game before Koijima rejected them and told the director to do it in his action style.
The other big complaint is the voice acting. The original stuff was unusable because it was extremely low quality, so they got the voice actors back to re-record everything and redo lines that were faithful to Kojima's script. Since a lot of the lines was altered by the translator.
So Sonyfags just bitch about everyone losing their over the top accents and Grey Fox no longer sounding like the DARPA chief's twin brother.

The only real valid complant is no VR missions.

MGS1 was already a 3 hour game sans cutscenes, Twin Snakes made everything way easier so you can blast through it even quicker. There was a point in time where I didn't have many games on hand but I had a Gamecube and Twin Snakes so I ended up playing through it almost every day because it was a nice 2 hour romp. I actually appreciate that a lot. The worst thing in my eyes is for a game to feel long or bloated.

Everyone is going to explain the change in tone and direction, MGS2 style enhancements breaking the gameplay, and it's all absolutely right. But if you just want to compare quality I have a microexample that is an analogy for the whole thing.

In the PS version the screen shakes with nearby explosions and when metal gear walks, in twin snakes the screen never shakes. When metal gear walks he has the weight of a bouncy castle.

It's polish details like that, effort put into the original work by artists who are worried the game will fail and be forgotten. Hacks shitting out a remake don't notice things like that, and small fits of apathy plague the whole game.

Pretty sure Tricky's home studio was considerably more advanced than what David Hayter and crew had. Tricky's studio was, in part, set up by the record label. A record label is going to have a better sense of how to convert a home for adequate audio production than a video game publisher. The explanation isn't complete. In metal gear solid, the playable characters are "normal" dudes without sci-fi/fantasy/comic book powers.
