Probably haul ass on the jewtubes for a month and release the files to someone with a legitimate copy..

Going over what has been done this game is jacked up to high heaven on philosophy and all this deep talk of light and darkness all the time, from other pieces being slopped together it will be a very polished english job, prob about 15hours of work and over 3weeks for translating the text..

1 NANSHU, HIKARI never alive without YAMI.

CHUHEI heared the voice of CHUTENG,
and took an effort to make them YAMI.

Did I heared any voices?
What I did?
I didn't recognized about the persecution in CHUTENG.
I didn't see anything.
I didn't hear anything.

Nobody knows the future of CHUTENG.
it should be entrusted to the "NATURAL FLOW"

Unless the translator is getting paid some abysmally small amount I really don't think you're going to break even. These days people get like $4-7 per thousand ad views on YouTube, which often translates to 1,500+ actual views because of people using adblock, etc.. (Source: friends of mine doing YouTube as their living) Knowing that Japanese-English translators can easilly charge $50-100+ per page of text and this is the entirety of a text-heavy game... yeah good luck. You realize this could have been done for free if you got bilingual Japanese-English 4channers to do the work, right?

Japanese-English translation is a lot easier and simpler than English-Japanese translation. Anyone with an intermediate understanding of Japanese grammar can just look up what individual words mean and do the same job for free. The main problem here is that they're not going to allow any distribution of their translated version and seem to want to make money off of it. Besides, knowing foreign languages is a matter of educatedness not intelligence.

but this is obviously not a game that will just require a simple word-swap. The translator will need to first understand what ideas the game is trying to get out and the symbolism used in relation to japanese culture, and then adapt that symbolism to be understood by those of a western audience while still maintaining the overall ideas that the game is trying to depict. It's not going to be anything like a FF translation, it'll be more akin to that of a book translation. Which will require a pretty decent amount of intelligence, which 4channers are likely not going to bring to the table.
Keep in mind, I disagree with the whole charging thing. I'm just trying to explain that it won't be as simple as you're making it out to be.

Google Translate gives the gist of it:

Chu-Teng is a continuation of the unforgettable ultra rare to say the least EasternMind by Osamu Sato (best known for his work in music and for the ps1 game LSD dream emulator)

The game was released in about 1996, and unfortunately was never released in Japan contributing to its rarity not ever appearing on the internet even by accident, no gameplay videos, almost no ingame screen, only a few images of the cover. How EasternMind came out for both Windows and Mac 3.1.

From about 3 weeks in the section on 4chan / vr / dadicata retrogame, we discussed a lot about Osamu Sato and his works by scanning even his books on computer design. Speaking of Chu-Teng had come to the conclusion that it was gone forever because it has even managed to contact Osamu Sato but unfortunately he said he do not even have a physical copy of the game, then took a collector contacts with Japanese who refused to rip the game with the excuse of tougher laws on copyright in Japan (which did not happen since it would help to save a game that at the end of the fair is abbandonware).

On the third thread in three weeks of discussions came an anonymous saying that he was sure to have the game somewhere in the attic, not knowing of its rarity and to give him some time to find it. Of course almost everyone thought he was lying until he posted the images of the unique cd and cover ... By accepting the request to rip the game asked for a week's time because he had a lot of work going on, so after 6 days of images tribute to Osamu Sato trying to keep the thread alive, today Thursday July 4, the anonymous kept his word and has upped the game, and one day more than the already famous epic imageboard and all over the web!

Nothing about this translation plan makes any kind of fucking sense. A game like this is not going to garner enough attention to make any sort of money via YouTube ads, it just doesn't add up.

If money is involved, there is a difference. If this had been entirely an open project in people's spare time, I don't think it would be an issue, but since this now has a paper trail, they need to do it by the book to protect themselves and any investors.

Again. They aren't trying to charge money for the translation. They just can't use other people's money to openly distribute something that in reality is only making someone's intellectual property more desirable to pirates, whether or not it was realistically ever going to be officially distributed again. At least until someone has proof of owning a real copy and wanting a translation so that, if it were to come up in court, there is evidence to support that there is a legitimate purpose for a patch to a game whose claim to fame is that NOBODY OWNS IT.

For a beta, I could see how respect could play a factor. A master of their work only wants to show the world the finished products, not all the things leading up to it.
But for a full fledged game now rendered impossible to find by time, it's not a matter of respect. We're not talking about a sword, we're talking about a book. The point of its creation wasn't so that the single instance would exist in its perfection, it was so that all who found themselves upon the product would, at the very least, intake the information. This isn't respect for the author, this is forcing 'collector' value on someone who probably doesn't even keep a version of his product for the sake of collection. I mean fuck, specifically for this game the head creator didn't have any knowledge of its physical or digital existence and probably didn't take any significant measures to find, obtain or keep the thing. He probably built the game for the sake of building the game, and couldn't care less whether or not it was even played. It's far more likely it was this than any sort of bullshit about him only wanting people who put a nonsensical amount of effort into obtaining the game to be able to play, especially given that the apparent themes have nothing to do with the commercial aspects of the game's building process.
Because this can be cloned with no loss to the quality of the individual work, there is almost no reason to claim that this is an issue of 'respect, or that it is even respectful.

Well the guy ran a development company. You don't make things purely for fun—you make things to keep your company afloat and make a profit.

Also what's up with the sage if you're contributing to the discussion? Just curious

>> No.965173

>>965083
I was talking about his personal values, that he needed to make a profit was just an additional layer applied on top due to circumstance but likely had little influence on the game's core design (that the game was sold in such an obtuse manner and on such a unique topic with a unique structure and style, at least in the realm of video games, shows this as well.) suda51 is an example of the same kind of thinking, building games mostly because he's actually interested in the art of building games. I suppose, the "auteur" game director is what I'm talking about, and maybe romanticizing.
Gaider would be an example of the opposite, building games because he's interested in the profit and potential fame. Although, I suppose, he might actually be interested in the act of building games but simply lacks the intelligence or knowledge to go about it in any other manner.
as for saging, I do it as a general thing at this point and I started it mostly to undermine the act of saging as well as tripcodes (in a vaguely humorous manner, although I suppose only funny to someone who knew the intentions behind the constant saging). It also ends up causing confusion and disarray in certain threads, which I also find amusing. I started doing it back when saging was constantly being called out as 'downvoting' and other such nonsense like a year back or so. That idea has died down though so now it's somewhat pointless now but it remains a habit I have no reason of breaking

those last two posts I did were just about the idea that not putting betas and rare games online was a respectful act, and I was just saying that with video games and similar mediums, and even more so for chu-teng due to how it was sold, not hosting the game online has nothing to do with respect because the thing isn't built to be played by a few 'collectors'. You're not honoring the author's values, you're just forcing your own values on him.
Nothing I was saying there had anything to do with this current translation thing putting money into the translation and trying to get some money out of it, that's an entirely different mess of ideas and values but I doubt any of it has to do with some misinformed idea of respect for sato

>I know some japanese people who won't even post prototypes of unreleased gaems because of this shit. How else are people supposed to get 'em?
was a matter of respect, anyways.

I was never trying to argue about the translators of chu-teng withholding being an issue of respect because it clearly isn't. They've given us their reasons for not freely giving the translations and it has nothing to do with any misinformed idea of respect for sato's work. (However, that they're trying to purchase a high-quality translation is an act of respect, and a proper act of respect at that)

I'm just talking on the assumption that it is true, and if it were this is what it'd be. It's not like I'm announcing elsewhere that this is what's occurring, or telling anyone who asks that this is what's occurring or making any other actions on the basis that this is occurring other than saying what I think about it if it were to be what is occurring. I didn't actually think it'd be necessary to precede everything with a 'If the anon is telling the truth' when referring to him, because I figured the doubt would remain a constant. And anyways, I wasn't even trying to talk about this possibly imaginary translation in the first place, I was just talking about respect being a reason for withholding games
But I guess I'll rewrite it anyways
With the assumption that the paid translation is happening, I was never trying to argue about these translators of chu-teng withholding being an issue of respect because it clearly isn't. They've given us their reasons (or rather, what their reasons would be if it is in fact what is going on) for not freely giving the translations and it has nothing to do with any misinformed idea of respect for sato's work. And presumed it was to do with chu-teng. but now that we know this isn't the case, and there has been talk on some japanese websites of there being a third game, perhaps this is proof? the video title certainly fits the theme (TONG-NOU, CHU-TENG, XIA-CHE), and the client is listed as sony music entertainment, so, i dunno. maybe i'm on to something, maybe not. just kinda hoping there's more sato stuff to do with this series.

Alright guys.
In all of this endless sage, Chu Teng (Mid-Heaven) is being well pushed forward into a really nice localisation. A legal thwart is to be put in with the release of the patch files after a stint in exhibiting it on a developing channel.

As a thanks for /vr/ balling this together the chuteng ban (mid heaven disc) will be posted here in a series of jpegs. Explains the whole story, character descriptions, item purpose.

Dont know when the rest will be completed, its a bit of work but its been pretty fun to be apart of.

Well here's a download page for Mutant DNA, courtesy of a korean blog.

Let shift to play as P1. Right shift to play as P2.

>controls
[A] =
[B] = [z]
[C] =
[D] =

[A] = [/]
[B] =
[C] =
[D] =

idk if these can be changed since I'm not versed enough in MS-DOS games, but I hope they can because having such controls makes combos inexecutable on my old PC due to hotkeys and screen rotations and whatnot.

>movement
Left, right, up, down.
You can adjust further movement controls in the in-game options.

Before starting the game there's this retarded color code thingy in which you have to enter codes in color boxes from a special passcode page, but eh it's passable.

The game seems to unfortunately crash whenever Darkmater fights, which is a damn shame because you can't play Darkmater freely and can't continue the scenario mode pass the first stage because Darkmater will always be your second opponent. So I hope someone still has the HG101/alexgizh version and will be willing to reupload it, unless the Korean blog version IS the alexgizh version, in which case sadfrog.jpg.

But overall yeah it's an pretty awesome and underrated game, definitely worth a shot.

I had a old dis full of interesting snes roms allot of classics and allot of strange pirate games or japanese games.

Such as Amanga 1 and 2.
Or Shock volumes one and two which were part of the demo Scene in the 90's.
Also some other pirate hentai carts like wesley girl or Hpic etc. What's strange is I am not sure of the origins of many of these hentai themed roms.

Then I found a strange game entiled
Tsukikomoi.
Published by banpresto.
It is a Visual novel, adventure game.

From what I have played it takes place at a house where a group of friends go and tell each other spooky stories.

Something like that.
