Future is a better game for people who like to explore. There's all kinds of secrets nooks and weird areas to find with unique NPC's and animations that make the world feel more lived in. JSR was an arcade-y experience, but JSRF was an adventure.

Plus, a few of the stages gave you the opportunity to create insane combos grinding and performing tricks from the beginning until you loop through then entire map without even touching the ground.

Anyone who says JSRF is a bad game is just a troll and a liar.

JSR and Future has a ton of substance, it's just weirdly hidden within it. JSR's entirely based on the score system and figuring out how to maximize it and what order to get all the graffiti and figuring how to work with the physics.JSRF literally gives you a checklist and tutorials to use the most potential in the game. The thing is, the game doesn't draw your attention to doing this so a lot of people who just play through it casually either think it's too hard(JSR) or too easy(JSRF)

Jet Set Radio is difficult to get into, but once you get used to the mechanics, it's incredibly fun and addictive, also very replayable. Future is much easier to get into, and much smoother, but also way easier and not replayable (because the arcade elements, like scoring, were removed), so it's not as fun in the long run.

The score based gameplay is there, albeit the QTE graffiti isn't. There's a bunch of stuff to replay in JSRF that's not as easy as the story campaign

I love JSRF, and think it's a superior game to the Dreamcast original, but they are different games, as you noted.

My only complaint is that the controls can be awfully finicky at times. But that's also speaking from experience with a fo real Xbox hueg controller. Perhaps a different controller with less than one mile of stick throw would make a difference.

I think part of the reason JSRF is thought of as casualized is because the game rarely tells you this stuff unless you seek it out, even NPC conversations don't push you to complete challenges and the more advanced techniques are under the Roboy tutorials, which most people probably think are just "press A to jump" stuff.
I really wish we had interviews with the developers because the creation of these games is really interesting It feels like the general direction for Future came from people playing the game and preferring to just free play the game than focus on scoring.Plus the change in the skates to making them boost you up rails automatically

You can take the playlist's link, change "youtube" to "music.youtube" in the link, click the three dots, click "add to playlist", and make a new playlist that you'll add these songs to.

Aero is awful to me. It was a precursor to flat design. They were already sanitizing things since that era, trying to make them more "professional".
You can even notice it in gaming. For example, in the 6th gen of consoles (Y2K), every console had a soulful startup video with a lot of personality. In the 7th gen (Aero), every console dropped the soulful intros in favor of bland ones.

>> No.9708679

Wii U and 3DS had really fun menus, but that was the end of it. The Switch's menu is pathetically bare bones and shitty. PS4 is a mess, but is better than the Switch. I haven't even bothered with Xbone, Series X or PS5 because they unironically have no games.

Oh don't get me wrong, Aero has its faults. The start up for the PS3 was boring, the Wii one was far too Spartan, later renditions of the Xbox 360 stripped it of all its flare and charm. But in its beginning Aero just seems to resonate something with me. It, and Y2K will always be my preferred pallete if I could. Given the chance, I would make a game stylized as if it came from the Xbox itself, steeped in this mixed style.

Does it feel like home?

>> No.9710132

I did this >>9707436 an hour ago.
It looks almost the same, save for the silver.

When I saw it, I remembered Alan Parrish's line from Jumanji.
>Mom, dad! I'm home!
As if I myself am "back".
Then I remembered that it wasn't a happy moment in the movie. His parents were dead. Everything he knows is gone.

My own father died. I don't miss him; he was a shitty father who divorced my shitty mother (2 months after I left for college) and married another shitty wife. But after he died, we sold the house because we obviously couldn't share it with his widow (who falsely accused me of wanting to sexually assault her literally the night after my father died). I cut off my mother and the rest of my abusive family 6 years ago, and last saw them 7 years ago.

My father was good to me until I turned 7, so around the time we got Windows XP I guess. I had friends at school and many cousins, and we went to each others' houses to play. I had a genuinely nice house that was my home that I could always go back to, even if I didn't like my parents and older brothers. All my childhood toys are there. All my memories are there. I can feel every surface in it on my skin.
Where am I now? Moved places 9 times in the last 10 years. Live alone in a small apartment. Don't have a friend group, and the only friend that I meet up with regularly, I see once every weekend or two. Don't have a "loved one", save for a friend living in another city whom I call a "sister" in a desperate attempt to cope.
I miss my little brother. I wasn't there to see his teenage years. I didn't see him turn 20. I wish I was a better brother to him when we were kids so we could have better memories together.
But I can't stay around the three raging cunts (mother and 2 older brothers). I want to cry for myself but I can't even do that; their abuse took that from me.

Whatever "home" and stability I had is gone. I can't "go back" with silly computer skins. I can't "go back" by replaying retro games.
I have to move on.

Still, a peak example of what I love about the JSR fandom; it keeps growing and producing content. The creator was born in 2000, the last release this franchise got(the JSR port) they were a 10 year old While it's not a new thing for old franchises to get new fans, it seems rare for any game to get fans who put so much effort into reviving a dead franchise themselves.

I enjoyed JSRF when I was even younger than that and it was immediately one of my favourite games. What gamer parents oughta know is that kids aren't necessarily trying to beat games; they're just having fun. They'll session around interesting corners of the map, replay levels they liked, etc. What might be useless meandering to you is incredible immersion for a child. Kids are more perceptive than adults because they haven't yet learnt to filter out bullshit, so they are going to be fascinated by all the little things in a game: signposts, posters, idle animations, EVERY single nuance with the physics and controls, etc. How many adults have actually looked at the graffiti they spend the whole game spraying?

The original Jet Set Radio though would be more difficult for a child to session in because of the time limits and persistent police.
