these games are like really good looking NES games, neat stuff. you know about the remaster versions? they are on Archive.org btw, even had an update a while back.

I always liked the hand-painted digitized backgrounds, but honestly the gameplay in these is not nearly fun or rewarding enough to put up with it otherwise.

It plays like a ZX Spectrum game with the stiff one-button controls and randomly appearing enemies

I never played more than five minutes of the originals, but the remasters turn them into legitimately fun games for Zelda fans. The in-game graphics, cutscenes aside, are very pretty. The gameplay is simple, like a watered down Zelda 2, but it's fine because the games are barely an hour long each so there isn't enough time to get completely bored of it. Even with the remaster they are far from great, but they at least make some very interesting pieces of Zelda/Nintendo history playable.

GEE, IT SURE IS BORING AROUND HERE

>> No.9661907

Easy to emulate these now by the way, before you had to have a hacky MAME setup with dummy zips (which even MAME acknowledged was bad).
The code was forked out into a libretro core called SAME CDi, even if you're spergy about touching anything libretro the sheer ease outweighs your autism.

Haven't looked into it in a while, do you know if the same is true of Zelda's Adventure? It's one of two Zelda games I have never played (the other being the wrist watch game that no one has made a simulation of yet)

>Zelda's Adventure
Just gave it a quick test with the .chd from EdgeEmu and it seems fine.
When you load any game it'll flash a cyan screen, just wait then press PLAY CD-I and you're done.

Aaah fantastic, thanks bro. I'm gonna play it and hate myself. Now I just gotta hope that someone makes a simulation of the Nelsonic watch, or emulates it on MAME. Or pay $200 for an 80s children's toy that may not even work. :_)

About 10 months ago MAME 0.242 did add support for the Nelsonic Star Fox watch so don't give up hope.

Anybody have experience playing burned copies on their Cdi? I can’t get a clear answer online on how to best burn discs

Oh my god how the hell did I miss that. Just a couple months ago I even went through and played a whole bunch of LCD games that were supported and had an eye out for the Nelsonic watch games.

Gotta love how Link and Zelda on the boxes are taken from ALTTP.

>> No.9662337

why would you emulate these games?
they look like shit unless you have a crt\proper resolution (real hardware)

i have all 3 zelda discs
unplayable nonsense but a good laugh

The music and backgrounds are fantastic but everything else is a disaster, the fan remaster makes it easier to playthrough but the gameplay is just not fun.

Unironically a great character design and personality. I'd enjoy seeing him in a new game, a sort of jovial and boisterous goofball, but one who doesn't hesitate to step in himself when the situation calls for it. Maybe he acts as a fatherly figure to a silently suffering Link, who has to put up with his shenanigans and try to keep him from getting in over his head.

Now that the upcoming Mario movie immortalized the Mario rap from the DiC cartoon, what are the chances the rumored Zelda movie make nods to the CD-I games?
