Or maybe you could just use potions, then buy some more of them and get better equipment and skills.

The player pretty much always has the advantage in vanilla. The enemies have shitty gear and skills for most of the game, and the AI can be REALLY retarded.

Your enemies will be using normal potions and attacks even in the last battles because they have no JP. It's pretty sad.

>> No.961758

>>961728
Yeah, the game is kind of hard like that, so you need to find away around that disadvantage

For example, use the terrain to your advantage, so the enemies can only come through a few areas

equip everyone the fundaments ability of the squire, and every turn, use accumulate (the move that gives you +1 power)

If you can hold off the enemy for like 6 rounds, you will have a super powered army, and it is also a good way to level

Easy battle, like all of them.
>and I had all death knights
Terrible move. This is like playing Pokemon and using 6 of the same pokemon with the same moves, it only works because the game is super easy. Its a shitty, boring idea.

A team without variety is a shitty team. Use more classes. Healing, nuking, punching, cutting, tanking, status ailments. You gotta have everything...

The main weakness of the enemy team is the same as yours, but monks are powerful as fuck and they outnumber you.

Also, if you want to win it with only one character, Orlandu should be able to do it easily with the right gear. With Math Skills, it's even easier than with a full team. A very bulky Ramza with Scream can do it easily as well.

>> No.961780

Idk, I find healing characters incredible weak (see white mage)

However, the black mage is incredibly powerful

When a black mage unleashes an "aja" spell in the middle of 8 of those monks, and hits them all for 300, it feels so satisfying.

But death knights are pretty overpowererd, because essentially, you could just keep using sanguine sword, to heal yourself, and deal a whole lot of hp at the same time

Meteor.

If you use Meteor well, it rapes everything. You can't always pull it off, but you always have secondaries and status ailments/haste to use.

Time Mages are amazing. Summoners and Lancers are overpowered.

Except for the Calc, every single class in this game is good when well used. The problem with classes like the Dancer, Bard, Geomancer and Mime is that the game is so easy that most battles can be finished way too quickly for them to be too useful. For this game to be really interesting, you kinda have to want it to, and use more complex setups that aren't really necessary. Otherwise you are just gonna spam swordskills and win.

I like blind

When you try to analyze him, at first I think he is kind of stupid, like jock/athlete stupid.

But he really is pretty intelligent. When he finds out his brother may have killed his father, he investigates into it, hiring an apothecary to do some work.

And he is a leader, and calls dycedarg out for betrayal.

So he isn't stupid, but I think blind is a good word.

Douchebag IS too strong a word for Zalbaag.

Zalbaag's problem is that he was weak willed. A born follower, unable to make the hard decisions. He looked up to his older brother Dycedarg, who had a much more forceful and charismatic personality. Zalbaag wanted to believe that Dycedarg wanted what was best for everyone. When he shot Teta, he believed her sacrifice was justified to end further suffering because Dycedarg said so. Even when his brother murdered Larg, he believed that Dycedarg was acting in the interest of Ivalice as Larg would be an unworthy lord.

...but Dycedarg fucked up when he murdered the one person Zalbaag looked up to more than him. That was the only thing that could snap a milquetoast tool like Zalbaag out of his "big bro knows best" stupor.

As flawed a character as Zalbaag was, he WANTED to believe he was doing the right thing. I genuinely felt sorry for him in the end. He was just so painfully, tragically wrong and clearly not suited for the position he was placed in. At least politically if not tactically. That's where nepotism gets you, I guess. Thanks a lot, dad.

This analysis is the best thing I have read today, because it is 100% true.

Now that you put it in my mind, the reasons he did the things he did was because he bought into the "dycedarg is doing what is best for ivalice" and followed him blindly thing.

what else is interesting is that when you girst get to Lesalia castle, he believes Dycedarg over Ramza, and then says Ramza's common blood has tainted him, and that there is a reason they are only half brothers.

Kind of messed up, how does Ramza forgive him for saying such shit to him?

Really, in this game, good people fuck up and do really bad things. Pretty real, if you ask me.

Delita had good intentions, but he turned everyone against him with his lust for power and selfishness.

Wiegraf had good intentions. Ramza didn't understand that and accidentally killed his sister. Wiegraf's despair made him take the wrong path for the sake of revenge, and in the end he was corrupted by his own hatred.

Alazlam compiled a pretty good list, heh. I'll list all the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Gustav is slain by Wiegraff in Zeklaus.

Miluda is slain by Ramza's squad on the cliffs of Lenalia.

Teta is shot by Algus on Zalbaag's order at Ft. Zeakden. Golagros is also shot, but kills himself blowing up Ft. Zeakden.

Draclau murders Bart at Lionel Castle. Ramza duels Gafgarion and kills him at Lionel. Draclau reveals himself as Queklain of the Lucavi and Ramza's squad kills him.

Delita kills some advisor to Goltana at Zeltennia. I forget his name.

Simon is murdered by the Templars at Orbonne. Wiegraf also technically dies at Orbonne, but his body gets trotted around by Velius for a while afterward.

Velius is killed by Ramza at Riovanes, but not before Hashmalum can kill his "son" Izlude. Barinten caps Malak, but he gets wished back. Barinten gets tossed off the roof to his death.

Zalmo is killed by Ramza and Delita at Zeltennia.

Timeline starts to get hazy in my head around here. Balk is killed in Bed Desert at some point by Ramza and co.

Goltana is assassinated by Delita at Bethla. Larg is likewise assassinated by Dycedarg.

At some point Ramza heads to Limberry and kill Celia, Lede and Zalera. Then heads back to Igros to see Zalbaag kill Dycedarg, then get wrecked by Adramelech, who in turn is killed by Ramza's squad.

Zombiebaag is put down by Ramza. Rofel is killed by Ramza and friends at Murond. Kletian is killed in Murond Dead City. Hashmalum too. Also Ultima.

Ramza and his friends get nuked by Ultima's final attack. Many insist because of the ending montage that they all survived somehow. I have my own problems with that.[/spoiler[

Ovelia is stabbed by Delita. Delita is also stabbed, but it isn't clear that he died to his wound.

Mimic Daravon is a Mediator skill.

Mimes are good, though.

Just give an Oracle Black Magic or Summon and they deal damage. Also, their poles have MA based damage, so their physical attacks can be really good too. Silence Song gets rid of casters permanently, Paralyze, Sleep and Petrify pretty much just take anything out regardless of HP.

Yes, mediators can invite.

It's really good for mages, since it's MA based and doesn't cost MP, and there is no casting time. So, if you can't use a spell, just mimic daravon.

>>962185
The speed break is awesome. The Dancer can slow all of the enemies down at once as well, and if you want to get even more turns, get a Bard and make him raise your speed. A Mime can copy every single song/dance as well.

That shit works really well. This game is too easy for its own good. So many super powerful underrated classes.

The Geomancer is also ignored, and it's good.

cool thanks for the info!

Does anyone here know how difficult it is to get the anti-lag mod for the PSP version working? I'm assuming you have to get custom firmware. I'm always nervous I'm going to brick my PSP when I do custom firmware, and I haven't done it since PSP pretty much came out.

I've been playing that one with a cable linked up to my T.V. so I don't have to kill my neck playing, but the lag is pretty tiresome after a while. I'm pretty much at the end now but all the grinding I want to do is daunting because of the lag.

FFTA isn't bad, actually.

Story is entirely different and "childish", but not in a way that would scare off most people. It's more like a well-executed fairy tale that even adults can read and have fun with.

You can "break" the game with overpowered skills and such, but you can do the same in FFT just as easily.

The only problem is that FFT has a balance mod that deals with these issues, and FFTA doesn't (well, technically it does. but it's shit)

After a few fucking resets here's my note on this fight :
>Concentrate on Ramza is shit, should replace it with Two Swords.
>Move-HP UP is shit, your mobility will be crippled, replace it with Move+2, Ramza doesn't need another HP restore ability against Wiegraf with Blood Sword / Cheer Up.
>Counter Magic is a must, every time this nigger summons Titan / Salamander / Ramuh, it will actually backfire to his underlings, or to himself.
>Jade Armlet is shit, Mock Strike should take care of Velius' Brave so he'll never Counter Flood, and whenever he's using Seal, my unit with Throw Item can throw Soft and cure the petrify.
>Mind Ruin is a must, unless you want to be Cyclopsed to death.
>You need bait, a Wizard that always in critical (don't restore her HP) is great as a bait so Velius target her with Summon and get Counter Magic as return.

Overall, Aegis Shield + Elf Mantle works great against Velius summon.

something tells me i'm not going to enjoy stealing equipment from this guy.

on the other hand, i wish that all battles were like this in the way where luck doesn't factor in when deciding if an attack lands. using probability for evasion is a pretty dumb idea for a tactical game and it becomes more apparent once you realize that most fights are all about manipulating the early turns' odds until you gain enough of an advantage to steamroll the opposing team's sandbagging. i'd much rather prefer the evasion probability formula be replaced with something like damage percentages instead, such as taking 50% more damage when flanked or 100% more from back attacks. that way you don't need to see matches where the outcome of a battle can be decided in a single move, and losing because of that ~20% isn't really enjoyable to swallow down.

This is why I don't like 1.3.
In a good strategy game a single bad roll should not cost you the game, as long as your planning is sound. It might set you back or force you to re-evaluate but it shouldn't outright end it.

In my experience a lot of these "hard mode" patches for games really just turn them into a combination of puzzle game and slot machine.

Strategy :
AOE damage (black mage) for chapter 1-2.
Switch to Summoner / Sage for chapter 3-4 when Reflect Mail / Reflect Ring / Flame Shield / Ice Shield is common.

If you lost the battle, think. What went wrong in that battle, go look for advice or watch other people's 1.3 video on youtube.
Typically, if you reset more than 10 times for a battle, you enter that battle with wrong strategy.

CT manipulation (Haste and Slow) is very powerful.
If you can't kill a tanky unit, just slow / ignore him.
For every turn he gets, you'll get twice.

Recruit strategy :
At the start of the game, kick ALL of your generic units (as they have shitty Brave & Faith & Zodiac compatibility).
Sell your Power Source (Elixir) and Holy Water.

Recruit :
- 3 Females : one will become White Mage, the other two will becomes Black Mage.
- For males, you'll want 65-70 brave and 60-65 faith. Don't get males with low faith (~40) as your White Mage will do shitty healing on them.
- For females, you'll want as high faith as possible (65-70) and high braves (65-70).
You'll thank me when your Counter Magic works often.

You can always learn from the AI and copy their build.

General advice:

Status effects accuracy and speed have been improved a lot. Status effects are extremely useful.

Excessive grinding is bad, Skill crystals good.

If you insist of playing 1.3 then a thief or poacher is essential.

Orlandu is no longer a walking god. In facts he's probably one of the weaker uniques now.

White mage is an extremely good class.

Well, in regular FFT if you revive your party member with Phoenix Down + multiple X-Potion to restores his HP, you waste 2+ turns.
With White Mage, you only waste 1 turn with Life / Full Life spell.

It's just that in vanilla, you can break Zodiac demon's speed to 1 and Life Draining / Demi 1 it for 999 HP each turn so wasting 2+ turns for each dead party member with Phoenix Down and multiple X-Potions are not really a problem

if you are referring to the slow parts that had to do with magic casting, potion using, etc

That has been fixed, and is at the same speed, or slightly slower than the PS version (it is a good speed)

The only thing noticeable that War of the lions does not have, are the dialogues when casting a spell or something in a battle

With Light Robe/Estucheon II and Feather Mantle.

Run around the edge of the map until your speed is high enough to unleash the rape train. Until then, break their Phys to oblivion.

That version of 1.3 sucks dicks. Use the earlier versions. Also, the only thing hard type does compared to easy type is punish you less for failing to kill bosses in one turn. That's it. Nothing more than that. Hard type is just hyper punishing if you gain too many levels. Hard type you need to be lvl 15 or below for the last fight of chapter 2, easy type you want to be lvl 18 or below. Huge difference in terms of monster scaling and the amount of restarting you have to do.

You basically need to breed monsters with best compatibility with Ramza and Monk rez/heal them and buff them with Yell.

Sometimes you can't use Chocobos because they're too squishy. I remember using a Treant thing on a few fights and skeletons quite a bit; skeletons being expendable is awesome. Used quite a bit of hit and run, too. Chocobos are extremely mobile and I abused the shit out of it whenever I could.

Undead niggers everywhere in this fight, they can't crystalize in 1.3, so Frog 2 / Seal Evil is a must to ensure they rest in piece in the corner.

Remember that sometimes Zalera can use Despair 2 to cure that petrified frog, so don't give them too many negative status.

Easiest Zodiac boss I have encountered so far, thanks to his innate suicide ability.

Do not bring maintenance.
I repeat, DO NOT BRING MAINTENANCE.
Dycedarg's Mighty Sword can be easily nullified by absorbing all of his MP.

Do not give a shit about Golem (ability that block all physical attack), Adramelk will constantly cast Meltdown (ability that damage 999 to himself and 999 AOE damage) after you deal at least 999 damage to his HP.

Bring as many units as you can with Throw Items + White Mage with Reraise to ensure revival, get two units on lower floor with Teleport to resurrect unit on upper floor, so he can't kill all of you with Meltdown at the same time.
Fuck up his MA with Mind Ruin so he doesn't have any choice but Meltdown.

5 colliery sluts.
All these gurl gamers have :
- Level ~40, White Knight Job
- All Sword Skills (Orlandu's vanilla Sword skill + Death Knight's skill + Mighty Sword + Monk's skill)
- Innate Defense UP + Magic Defense Up
- 350 HP without any armor
- 200 MP and Move MP Up (nuking their MP with Dark Sword / Bizen Boat is out of question)
- ~40 faith (nuking them with Summon / Flare 2 is out of question)
- 3/5 have Concentrate (100% accuracy)
- Always:Protect (because Save The Queen)
- Two Item user (with Power Source / Elixir)
- 10 - 12 speed (so most of them always move first and cast Lightning Stab / Statis Sword on you)
- Immune to all status
- They zerg you straight from the start (no wandering around in the corner), because the AI "pathing" issue is fixed

And yes, I beat this fight and stole 3/3 Save the Queen swords.
Thanks to Dycedarg / Adramelk from previous fight that taught Ramza godlike ability to use in this fight.

Crazy battle, but you're a retard if you don't abuse their 100 Faith and use Dark Holy on this fight to massacre them.

Wizard that's charging Dark Holy with Equip Gun + Hamedo is the best bait against these niggers.

Watch their CT, don't recklessly put them into critical if you don't have anyone else that can kill them before their turn, or they will use Elixir.

My strategy :

- Speedy Onion Knight with Excalibur + Thief Hat + Carabini Mail + Sprint Shoes (12 speed) to guard the entrance so the Draw Out bitch doesn't come out. She needs 12 speed to move first (18 speed with excalibur's haste) because the male engineer inside has 15 speed.

Later she will equip change to Dragon Whisker + Salty Rage. She serves as punching bag for the 25 MA bitch, and will try to damage her with Rafa.
- Rafa will follow her, and use Sky Demon against the trapped unit
- Revive any of your dead units
- Ramza (with Gun + Hamedo) as Wizard and another female Wizard (with Gun + Hamedo) will charge Dark Holy to make enemy units target them
- Marche (with Gun + Hamedo) and his Omega will serve as instant damage dealer to kill weakened units
- Prioritize the trapped unit and the one with Two Swords Ice Brands, don't hit the gunners until you deal with them.

Any tips for a FFT newbie? I've no idea how to develop my characters, don't understand why counters don't work sometimes, I'm so lost. ;_;

>> No.1004461

>>1004451
Develop them however you like, early on make sure to keep item readily available though.

All reaction abilities rely on your Brave. For example, Ramza has 70 brave at the start, that means he'll have a 70% chance to counter.

>> No.1004465

>>1004451
>don't understand why counters don't work sometimes
Reaction ability (Counter) depends on brave, if your Ramza's brave is 70, that means 70% chance for it to work. You can raise your Brave to 97 with Mediator's Praise skill in vanilla.

Tips ?
How to break vanilla in easy steps :
1. Speed break the zodiac demon until 1
2. Target it with % HP ability (Demi, Life Drain) for 999 HP damage each turn
3. Check boss weakness (Zalmo is vulnerable to Berserk, Velius is vulnerable to Silence, Altima is vulnerable to Don't Act)
3. Blade Grasp with 97 Brave for 97% protection against physical attack and 03 Faith for near invisibility against Magic Attack
4. One unit with Math Skill and 97 Faith (Ramza), cast Height 3 / Exp 3 / whatever + Holy to kill anything that moves.
5. Bare handed Ninja with Martial Arts, or Monk with Two Swords, best melee attackers in early chapters (before you can dual wield Chaos Blade for double 999 damage).

Dorter Trade City II ?

Get arrow guard if you have problems with Archer, and use AOE damage from Wizard to wipe the enemies.

Generally, your teams should consist of 2-3 mages (wizard / summoner) , 1 unit as Monk with Chakra to heal your Wizard's MP.

>> No.1004490

>>1004481
Chemist has innate Throw Item and you'll lose it if you change your class.

If you want your Black Mage to throw items, you should learn Throw Items for 350 JP and put it in the support ability of your Black Mage.

White Mage - depends on the battle situation, if you need the Cure 2 for the AOE heal or Raise / Raise 2 to fully revive your dead party member, keep her.
If you feel Phoenix Down / Potions / Hi-Potion is still enough, keep using Item / Chemist.
Since Ether isn't available in Chapter 1, you should always bring Monk to heal her MP.

But White Magic is a good investment in a long run, as you need 2+ turns for Phoenix Down + multiple Potion to fully heal your party member, while Raise / Raise 2 only need 1 turn and he'll back to action.

>Also do I lose my characters if I win the battle with them passed out?
No, you'll lose them only after their death counter reach 0, they'll turn into crystal / treasure box.

Got a bit closer to beating it now, just rushed for the knight and wizard. Pisses me off that Ramza knocks the wizard down to 1HP instead of killing him though, and that ruins my strategy a bit. Oh well, giving it another try since I let my white mage die a turn from winning.

It's not random, different magic has different AOE & vertical tolerance.

I always hated fight Chocobos, specially on the first two chapters when your units where too weak to kill them, and two yellow chocobos could easily outheal your damage.

Best thing you can do is try to take him down, or weaken him enough to make him run away and heal himself while you kill the rest of the enmies. This is best done with ranged or magic attach since chocobos always counterattack melee as far as I remember.
