ITT discuss classic arcade games (or arcade-likes) you've either cleared or have attempted to beat on a single credit (as the retro gods intended).
Anything you're stuck on? Particularly proud of? Share.

I'm doing arcade Tower of Doom (dwarf) and Sunset Riders (Billy). I cleared ToD in the past with other characters but Sunset Riders is new to me.

I loved it on 8-bit NES. Got the IREM collection (which includes it) for the Sega Saturn now too.

I'm working my way through Gain Ground on International Hardest. Shit really starts getting fucked by the end of world 2, not sure what to expect in worlds 3 and 4.

Have also tried but given up on space harrier, power drift, and splatterhouse 2. Might try again someday however.

I tried Darius Gaiden and I couldn't even finish the game, let alone 1CC it. The only 1CCs I've ever managed are NES Gradius and NES Dragon Spirit.

I love Gradius V but I can't beat it. I get filtered by the green liquid level and prior to that I lose a fuckton of lives to the asteroid boss.

Darius Gaiden for sure. Shield + screen clearing bombs really let you brute force through certain areas and the branching stage layout gives a lot of practice variety
>>9659960
I've always wanted this game for my Saturn but it's always been way out of my budget. You bought a repro right?

I've beaten one arcade game 1cc without any internet assistance. If we include racing and fighting games I've beaten a fuckload of them.

Yes, and it’s a very nice repro too. I’m a bit financially strapped right now so $20 was easier to justify than $400+

How hard is it to 1cc Splatterhouse? Mind that I'm shit at arcade sidescrollers. Also I've never tried running MAME before, is it hard to set up if I'm dumb?

>> No.9660762

>>9660749
youtube how to setup mame, you'll figure it out in 10-20minutes. it's simple and if you like retro shit you should have mame or at least retroarch with mame cores or finalburn neo cores

splatterhouse is not too tough, but you need to know the strats and enemy spawns, etc. So watch a replay or two and see how good players go through it

>> No.9662898

>>9660536
playing the living shit out of this game is really making me wonder: are this and other puzzle matching arcade games designed to be 1cc'd? i really doubt that some of them are. puzzle bobble in particular seems to really REALLY love specifically giving you trash you don't need.

>> No.9662935

>>9662221
Metal Slug. Outside of the 1st game the MS series has a lot more shit the player needs to memorize for a 1cc whereas GnG is a lot shorter and has a lot less enemy patterns you need to internalize.

The only stage you'll end up bashing your head against is stage VI with the bubble fleas. After a few tries through most of the game you'll get down boss patterns, simple enemy AI, and locations of enemies. Splatterhouse in general is pretty easy to 1CC compared to the average arcade game.

nobody on this board has ever 1cc any arcade game.

>>9660656
this was mostly an american thing, but people on this board are such repulsive compulsive liars that you will never see any proof, screenshots, savestates, not even a youtube video. unless it was recorded then it never happened.

>>9663078
where do you think arcade gaming started, genius? underwater? it was in america where this 1cc faggotry came from. the japanese really didn't give a fucking shit about arcade gaming until around the time of space invaders became insanely popular after its release.

>> No.9665740

over the summer i 1cc'd Armed Police Batrider on Beginner. that's all i got!

Japan did the 1cc thing first, it was called "All Clear" or some stupid Engrish a long time ago, and yeah it wasn't that cool irl, it was mostly just for fun bragging rights with your friends, and some healthy competition, but arcade games never really got as competitive as, say, pinball. They were more just a fun challenge to see if you can save your quarters on a tough game.

More recently, there have been a lot of revivals of arcade gaming that center around doing 1ccs, and that started in Japan, but the US got this strange misconception that Japan was always into 1ccs, like that they were all extremely gifted at games (I see this as subtle racism, that whole idea that asian people have faster reflexes or can handle complex things better/quicker), its really that they have some humble and dedicated players who really miss/adore the old arcade scene, nothing more than that. Its just a fun hobby.

Although, it IS true that many arcade games are designed to clear with one credit if you are good at them, using all available resources to be victorious etc., this is good game design for arcade games because it is still hard while being fair enough to feel like putting another coin in. But that doesn't mean that the average person should shoot for a 1cc.

>> No.9665958

I can do RoboCop 2 no problem. Good game.

>> No.9665959

Marble Madness.

>> No.9666092

>>9665948
Clearing games on one credit was hardly a Japan only thing, anywhere with an arcade scene aimed for it naturally when games started to be finite, it was the most obvious reasonable challenge. What Japan is really known for is having an insanely dedicated and competitive scoring scene, americans scoring in comparison got stuck in golden age gaming.
