Anyone wanna talk about fighting games that are not made by Capcom, Namco, SNK or Midway? I find it somewhat melancholic, that in such a character-driven genre there are many games where some developer put his heart into a character look, story and moveset to be ultimately forgotten, even though the game may be fine overall, just not prominent enough.
I have discovered Racdym games recently, namely Shadow Struggle and Critical Blow. What makes them interesting is that while little known in the West because of not being released here, they are not some low budget half assed efforts. Both games are solid 7/10 and presentation wise are easily on par with SF EX or Rival Schools.

I've been playing the hell out of pic related, which might be known among several /vr/ anons out there, but not to the public at large, for rather obvious reasons. A.V.G. 2 might not be the most innovative title, but its competent enough to be an enjoyable game for what it is. And I'm gonna get into Evil Zone soon, or rather its Japanese version: Ereztzvaju. How the fuck are you supposed to pronounce that title?

Not obscure but a great, solid 3D fighting game made don't produced by those but by Konami.
It was made by Raizing/8ing and they still make great fighting games (DNF Duel it's their latest)

robots that fight in virtual space, games play like Virtua Fighter. Also the games have some of the best fighting music you've ever heard

Fighting genre lives and dies with the community. It's a sad fate but it's the one they chose when they decided not to bother with proper SP modes. I've been playing a old fighting games lately and there's not much to do in them these days. Old DoA games are still a lot of fun to play today but after 3-4 hours with each one you just run out of SP content

I once played a fighting game in the hallway of a Vietnamese semi-strip-mall that was entirely in Chinese, which I can't read, but had very, very good pixel art similar to Guilty Gear in quality. This was in the early-to-mid 00s.
I would guess the game was Taiwanese-made but I have no idea what it was nor how to find it again. How's /that/ for a forgotten fighting game?

Derp. I forgot to describe the game itself!
Had a mediaeval theme to it. It was similar to both Knights of Valour games in look, but a fighting game rather than beat-em-up, Western mediaeval setting rather than Chinese and much larger sprites.
Only character I remember well was an enormous knight in, like, full metal armour.

Best fighting game that was a computer exclusive. That's not saying much since others were trash but it did have cool ideas like the upgrading of your fighters and the stats being shared by robots and pilots alike. Stage hazards were a thing I first saw done there, and the music was great.

Slap Happy Rhythm Busters is a very nice fighting game. Very solid and fluid gameplay with a lot of systems and combos. The cel-shaded presentation screams Dreamcast to me, it would've done gret in that system.

Used to play Critical Blow a lot back in the day. Racdym can do no wrong in my eyes.

>>9649803
I've been championing Advanced VG2 for decades, it's legit one of the best 2D fighters on the system. It's broken as fuck once you understand the combo system, but oh man it's so much fun. It's a shame such great game is hidden behind a "girl fighter", more people would've given it a shot ortherwise. Or probably they tried the first one, which is a piece of shit, and never bothered with the series again.

Eretvaju is really fun. The rock / paper / scissors gameplay is very easy to learn and it leads to some intense matches when playing against other people. The one problem the game has is that every character plays almost the same, so when you learn one, you learn them all.Gameplay is still very unique so it doesn't really matter that much.

Also, god tier soundtrack.

Yeah, Advanced VG2 is great.
I also enjoyed VG Max for PC : it's simpler with a 2-buttons scheme and chibi sprites, but it's well animated and simple fun. Kinda like Pocket Fighter.

Speaking of sequels people may have missed because of an awful first entry, Ningyou Tsukai 2 (sequel to the game localized as Metal & Lace) is also surprisingly decent.

Yeah, but who plays them now? Everyone just plays Storm and acts as if it's a better version of the PS2 games whereas it's a completely different series with a very different style of gameplay.

>I've been championing Advanced VG2 for decades
Based V.G. bro. Who do you main? I nearly always choose Yuka, Tamao or Kaori. My least favorties are Elirin, Kyoko (their moveset and combos seem hard to master for me) and Manami not only she's the weakest, but I also hate catgirls and in fact she's my regular punching bag in Practice Mode.
>It's broken as fuck once you understand the combo system
Yeah, I saw videos of people performing ludicrous infinites with Kaori and Kyoko. An advanced (no pun) player can push their opponent to the edge of the screen and whack them until they're done for. Some characters (Jun, especially) have very powerful, sometimes annoying OTGs.
>It's a shame such great game is hidden behind a "girl fighter", more people would've given it a shot ortherwise.
Heheh, this reminds me of one time when my brother visited my place and saw me playing this game. I thought he'd bitch that the game is a bishoujo fighter, but much to my surprise he sat down in front of the TV and wanted me to play against him. At first I was destroying him effortlessly, but then he figured out the mechanics and cheesed with Reimi's low kick and Hurricane Rose. Yeah, I know there are ways to defeat that character, but I'm not really good at fighters, in fact, A.V.G. 2 is the first fighting game I've ever played for longer than 5 minutes.
>Or probably they tried the first one, which is a piece of shit
Yeah, the first one is just... kinda average? It's not as fluid and I can't perform combos as easily as in the second game. Plus the opponent AI in single player is awfully cheap.

By the end I used the whole cast but I found that Chiho is probably the one I played the most. She having a "Genei Jin" that you can activate 3 times without dropping the combo was very fun to play around with. Kaori is insane yeah, she has a very basic infinite that anyone can pull off without much effort. Most of the cast is super broken, in a similar vein of how the Sailor Moon fighter is broken. It would be interesting the day Fightcade supports PS1 games, it could lead to a little resurgence once people find out about it (not expecting big numbers or anything, just a small dedicated fanbase).

It's no Capcom or Konami production value, but to call them amateurish? C'mon anon. Plus the character designs were done by Takahiro Kimura, who was involved with some anime series, most notably Code Geass.
