If i like a game too much I have a difficult time finishing it because I know it'll be over.
If a game is mediocre I'll finish it as fast as possible. Maybe for some hope the completed game will give some satisfaction, maybe just to get it over, I don't know.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We used to have creative writing assignments for English class, and one time when I was in fifth grade, I submitted a fanfic of Sonic R as my story. My teacher then decided to read it out loud to the class. She didn't know what the fuck was going on and struggled while reading it out loud. I was so fucking embarrassed I remember wishing to just fall through the floor and die.

Natural Selection 2 was supposed to have a taser for the marines. In response I drew a picture of a Skulk having a taser stuck in its ass while its buzzing, with the main dev Flayra giving a retarded grin with a thumbs up next to it. This was posted in the forums and not even a month later they suddenly dropped the idea and years later I still saw some guy using the Flayra face as an avatar.

Anyway NS2 fucking sucked.

Several of my /vr/ games, peripherals and accessories are literally things that I or my older brother borrowed from friends and never gave back/they never bothered to ask for back. Off the top of my head, this includes FFVII (black label version with the misprint in the back), FFVIII, Chrono Cross (this was exchanged for MGS though, to be fair, and I didn't get that back) the N64 Expansion Pak, Conker's Bad Fur Day, a Dreamcast and Sanic Adventure 2 (these were my cousin's, and he's gone now RIP), and that's just scratching the surface. I swear I'm not black or named Jamal. Friends and acquaintances just kept lending these things out and I guess they'd forget and/or move on because who cares, they're just toys and shit.

I have a similar story.

There was a creative writing assignment too when I was twelve and I wrote a FF8 fanfic. The teacher gave me a grade of 18/20 and she read it out loud.

All I remember is that it was about Laguna, Ward and Kiros, Ward had readen the map upside down so they got lost, fought a Chimera, and then eventually found their way to a castle with I think a wizard as boss.

We had to make bingo cards in this one 4th grade project, and the topic for one of the squares was "Favorite Song." I said "It Doesn't Matter", the song from Sonic Adventure 1. Teacher read that out loud, started to get angry, and I had to resort to singing the fucking song out loud to get her to understand it was a title of a song, not a commentary on the project.

Soon got switched out from that teacher to a different one (not by my own choice).

Back when I was in 1st grade the first Mortal Kombat came out on Genesis and I would play it all the time at a neighbors house. Anyways I was drawing Sub-Zeros finisher in school where he pulls the head off his opponent with spine still intact and blood spewing out etc etc. Teacher saw this and I ended up going to talk to a person in the main office where they asked me about my home life, if I'm happy, what are my feelings about this subject etc etc. Didn't think much of it at the time but looking back I'm pretty sure they knew nothing of Mortal Kombat and figured I might just be disturbed in the head.

This was a big deal for a while because back when the game industry was still relatively compartmentalized adults knew of video games as a thing that existed but had no specific knowledge. So it was like speaking a different language. My parents found Tifa porn on the computer and instead of having "the talk" like they would have had they found a Playboy, they just kinda pretended I was normal and that it would hopefully blow over.

I sure showed them.

I used to install a lot of stuff on Counter Strike back then, in a time where connection with the world was far away from my reach. After setting up a particular mod, I booted up the game, bots enabled. Some minutes into gameplay, then a 'player' spoke in the chat. Startled me on spot, but I was partway excited, too. I proceeded to inquire that individual... But no direct answers I got. Then the realization came. I still feel so pathetic for it... But I grew very fond of bots in games from that day on.

In 2nd grade, my teacher had every student write a story, so I wrote about the jellybean-eating blob from A Boy and His Blob. It lived on a planet with the rest of its species and ate jellybeans. I also put the egg things from Snake Rattle 'n Roll in there.

I wasn't a creative child.

I don't know if it's a story so much as a nostalgia thing but some of my earliest memories are of playing SMB 1, 3, and Battletoads with my dad. We used to get stomped by Turbo Tunnel but I'll always remember when my dad finally aced it, was mind blowing to me. Before my little brother was born it was a mix of that and watching him and my mom play 2 player on SMB 1, they were both great at it.
After that my best gaming memories are of playing multiplayer with my little bro, then Crash Team Racing came out and we racked a bunch of hours playing 4 player on that, truly a golden era. Later on me, my brother and my dad got REAL autiatic about the target flying minigame in Super Monkey Ball.
That's what it's all about bros. I don't get where all the vicious cynicism comes from, I had always assumed the people that liked retro games would understand the heart of the experience and what made it fun in the first place. Like I fundamentally don't get HATING a console for instance. I was so out of the loop in the mid 90s that when my friend down the road said he got a Playstation for Christmas I thought he was referring to some sick playground setup in his backyard. I disn't know 3D gaming was a thing until I went to my cousin's birthday and he had an N64 set up in the living room, blew my mind. He showed me Starfox, Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64 and it hit me like the spaxe baby scene at the end of 2001 Space Oddyssey.
I ended up getting a PS1 before an N64, and was somewhat sad at first but then I played Spyro and Croc and it just was magical shit man, like it saddens me that I don't think future generations will feel anything like that. Eventually got an N64 maybe a year later and it was just as cool. We had no concept of x amount of good or bad games for a console, it was just two different extremely cool things that both brought me a ton of mirth and good memories.
Tldr play games with people you love and stop being a cynic anons, don't miss the point of the whole thing.

I also had a creative writing class back in middle school. It was framed like an exam where we were given an hour and a list of prompts off which to launch our story, the one I chose was "The ship is going down!"
So naturally I turned it into a Star Wars fanfic since I'd be playing a shit ton of Republic Commando at the time. I stole characters, descriptions, and probably even plot points from the game. I remember my teacher's face as she was reading it, just absolute confusion. I think there was a moment she realised it was Star Wars and then just went "Oh" and gave me a middling mark.
I felt pretty disappointed because I'm actually an okay writer when I don't completely sperg out. I think I even did a Star Wars performance for drama class too. I wish I could go back and stop myself.

Almost got a free copy of Nintendo World Champs 1990. Was at a retro game expo in like 2000/2001 and they had a NWC cart there that they used to hold a high score tournament and the winner got the cart. Came in 3rd place which wasn't too bad considering i never played Rad Racer before then and between the preliminarys and finals with last 5 i went over and bought a copy of it cause i liked it. Despite not winning, was cool to get to play the original cart in an actual competition and hell i won a full year of free rentals from hollywood video.

Had a friend in 4th and 5th grade that kept drawing Mr. Saturns from Earthbound, but she kept calling them "toilet dwellers". Our friend group thought they were the funniest shit so we kept drawing comics of them fighting off the "bathtub bunnies" which were just ugly rabbits.
Eventually she told me that the toilet dwellers were Mr. Saturn from Earthbound and told me to play it. I went online, discovered emulation, but ended up getting the NES Earthbound prototype instead because she didn't say it was for SNES and I didn't know any better. Still had fun playing it though.
Also I was the only one with a Genesis and a copy of Primal Rage so a bunch of kids came to my house after school one day to see the uncensored full bloody Primal Rage, but none of us could pull off the fatalities, so no monkey death piss finishers for us.
