Shields regenerate. Your health does not. Health pickups are much rarer than in vanilla Doom, since they replace green armors and berserk packs only.

None of the weapons have a blast radius worth mentioning. Grenades step in to fill that role.
>chargeable melee / big grenade explosions, super jumping
All of which use the same power supply. Fully charging melee or grenades also kills your shields, leaving you extremely vulnerable to enemies, should you miss your punch or fuck up the grenade toss.

As for super jumping, it's a way out when you're surrounded and otherwise have very few options. You could attempt a fully-charged punch, which would wipe out a sizable portion of the crowd, but would make you an easy target for any survivors. You could use a shield booster and try to power through the crowd while the invulnerability lasts, but there's probably a better time to use those. Since weapons need to reload, it's unlikely that you have sufficient firepower to clear yourself a way out, and the stronger weapons have splash damage that'll tear your shield apart, not to mention how many new assholes the enemies would be tearing you the entire time. If I had to pick between potential map breaking jumps or getting fucked up because of stronger, smarter enemies and a limited amount of damage that can be done before needing to reload, I think I'd pick the potential map breaking jumps. I don't break maps on my first playthrough, and if it's not my first playthrough, what's it matter? The mod isn't multiplayer compatible in the first place, so the only person who can "ruin the experience" is yourself.

I suggest BFG edition does some decent changes to DOOM 3, but the classic DOOM games included are butchered. I actually enjoy the dark ambiance, of the Original, that atmosphere is awesome. BFG removes that tension with that permanent flashlight but some people enjoy it.

Around the time Vanilla Sky got posted, there was this pretty WAD called Urban Slaugher, it was made by an argentinian apparently. You can call for reinforces and fight against 5 or 6 waves of enemies. It's pretty cool

And then again, we got Perro Seco who did Planisfere 2, which seems to be an exact copy of fucking New York. NONE of the current source ports can run it smoothly.

Playing through these for the first time since I was a kid where I cheated through parts of the game and never completed them.

I'm amazed at how much fun Im having with Doom 1. A few years ago I picked it up on XBL and wasn't really interested, but it's totally different this time. No idea what changed it either. The maps are a fucking blast to explore and I love that as I get to newer episodes in Doom everything starts too look more fucked up/creepy and demonic.

Starting to think between this and SMT4 I really like stuff that deals with heaven, hell, angels, and demons. I like to see all the fucked up interpretations that artists make for demons and shit in games.

The only negative thing is I've heard Im playing Censorship Master Race edition by playing Doom 1 and 2 from the Doom 3 BFG Edition.

alright, im getting tired of this

so I'm following this tutorial for 3D floors in ZDoom

they instruct me to grab a svn version of Doom Builder (i'm using the one posted in Feb 25 2013) to make this, and then i follow ALL the steps correctly

but when I get to this part i don't see the floor being shown like it is in the video, and also I can't raise them from below, there's no texture at all. The dummy sector is correctly linked with the sector inside the room, and it has been tagged correctly. As you can see i'm using zdoom in hexen format so there's no way i can be doing wrong.

I have zdoom 2.7.1 linked with this DB, and the video was posted 1 year ago, so if my suspicions are right there's no need to grab a svn version of zdoom for this shit.

I'm good at every popular duel map except SSL2. Given a player with equal strategy to mine and only slightly better aim, I'll lose because we'll both control the SSG drops and get spawnkills, but the other player will land more because my aim is something I need to work on. I can pad it out on other maps by baiting the other player and being smart about when I fire but SSL2 doesn't let me do much of that.

It's actually pretty good, especially for a 1996 map with only one review that seems to care more that they got the first review than whether the map was any good or not. Very brown, and annoying if you end up without a radsuit due to all the high-damage floors, but the map gives you more than enough so it'll only really happen if you backtrack for health pickups. There was a dick move at the end of the map with an archvile, but I was quick enough that I managed to back up and take cover (only to step out too soon and get my ass blasted anyway). Lots of obscure secrets that you wouldn't find unless you UNF everything, and I was stumped on how to get to the exit for a good minute or so before realizing that it's the one door you have to shoot to open in the map. It's textured more like a lift than a door, so that threw me off.

Overall, 3/5. Good effort for 1996. With some better texturing it could almost pass as a recent map.

I didn't wait to watch this for too long, since there projectiles don't actually harm each other. They just throw hundreds of missiles at each other, and they will occasionally scratch when infighting which does harm them. However it took forever for them to scratch another once, so to see who would have won the fight would have taken too long even with fast monsters. I just let them simulate morrowind combat and wave at the air and I continued the level cause I wanted to save my ammo.

It's not. You could rebind your controls and there were dedicated strafe left/right buttons. You can use the mouse, too, just not for looking up or down.

Of course, if you're trying to play as close to vanilla as possible, you could just use Chocolate Doom or PRBoom and not have to worry about it.
