Why do people care so much about consistent minor lag? You probably don't even actively notice it and your brain simply adjusts to counter it. It's really just a nitpick for nerds who spend more energy on the details of gaming rather than gaming itself. It's actually kinda sad.

The Latencyphool is cut from the same cloth as the Audiophool. They are deathly afraid of Double Blind Tests. They watch pixels change rather than play games, just like Audiophools listen to wave functions, not music.

Not as sad as projecting whatever insecurities you have about not noticing something that others do and are passionate about. In the time you made your post you could've minded your own business and let the lag autists do their thing.

Yes, how dare people nitpick over the responsiveness over controls, the bedrock of video games and what separates them from other media. Oh how can anyone be concerned with the ways they interact with a medium.

Gotta agree with this. It's ok to not notice it, but OP got defensive about it before anyone made fun of him.

You're literally doing this right now.
Input lag really doesnt matter for many games, it does help create that 1:1 feel with a game, but overall it doesnt help. only SMW romhackers would notice this shit since they make hard shit where it matters, or games like Punchout.
Really though, arguing about it is stupid. Emulators have run-ahead, there's fpga hardware, or there's real hardware. Everyone is capable of getting low latency.

OP is the epitome of "doesn't actually play games". The people who care about input latency are the ones who play games because the only reason to care about it in the first place is because it affects playing the game.

You can have lag while playing SMB1. Not on native NES hardware on a CRT, of course. OP is trying to say that you shouldn't complain about playing SMB1 on a laggy screen with potentionally other sources of lag also affecting the experience. He's wrong.

>> No.9625279

I'm not too sensitive about latency, but the worst I've ever experienced was at a retro game store where they had a retron 5 with a carrying case with a built in LCD screen. They had super Mario Allstars playing on it and the lag was so bad you could have your thumb off the jump button before Mario actually left the ground. The second worst was when I tried playing the mobile port of sonic 2 on a shield tv tube; it controlled fine with the remote, but the Bluetooth driver was so bad it was the same as the retron 5 debacle.

In those scenarios, you should check to see if you can increase the bluetooth polling rate.

The only reason input delay is a prevalent topic in gaming is because it's interactive media. It's not like a movie where audio delay by a second affects the experience in a bad way, in fact I wanna speculate that it's done on purpose. A casual who does not practice a game consistently will never see any shortcomings of their experience. You seem to be bothered by a topic that you don't understand and should instead be researching it instead of making a thread like this one.

If my dad, over 60 years, not having played a videogame in the last 30, immediately noticed the input lag on the PCE Mini with Alien Crush (he used to play real pinball, then pinball videogames), it can't be just a crtrealhardwarephile issue.

>Why do people care so much about consistent minor lag?
Because it makes a huge difference when playing serious action games.
>You probably don't even actively notice it and your brain simply adjusts to counter it
False.
> It's really just a nitpick for nerds who spend more energy on the details of gaming rather than gaming itself.
False.

Lurk more.

And every fighting game player. And every other person who plays action games at a strong level.
