Sonic Team are hacks. Their best games are those that don't involve sonic and even then they're mediocre at best. AM2 rapes and gapes them.

Actually, yes. Burning Rangers is a fantastic game and the camera controls are surprisingly good for the era. The only problem that the game really has is that it's short.

NiGHTS is alright but it's basically an arcade game and a lot of people don't seem to understand that.

Nah, Burning Rangers is a letdown. The shoenorned sonic ring mechanic where you have to collect crystals to stay alive is dumb and shit. Bad framerate makes it annoying to actually time the backflip reaction mechanic when shit explodes, and the camera is bad in a lot of narrow stages. The music carries it hard, and it only serves as a bitter reminder that it should've been an anime instead (and would've been a fantastic one).

You can "pirate" the 360 port by downloading the free trial on XBLA on a real 360, copying it over to an USB stick, copy-pasting that to your PC and just firing it up in Xenia.
Xenia has a feature that lets you upgrade most XBLA free trials to the full game and the Xbox 360 has no DRM on the digital games themselves, all copy-protection happens on the console side.
You can use this method to get some other retro XBLA ports as well like Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers.

I think it's the squash and stretch and expressiveness of the models. Sonic always had a lot of the tenants of traditional American animation in his character design, so it makes sense he'd look good when some of the rules of animation are applied to him.

I do get why they went in the direct they did for Sonic Adventure though. Expressiveness doesn't really matter when the camera is behind the character, squash and stretch takes a lot of processing power to do, and longer legs make it easier for the player to gauge how fast they're accelerating and which direction they're going in the z-axis.

The 3D world seen in Sonic Jam is cool and all, but comparing it to a Model 2 game? Ehh...? Sadly Sonic: The Fighters was planned to be ported to the Saturn by AM2. I think they even had a working prototype for the game on the Saturn. But for whatever reason, it was canned. Bean and Bark in Fighters MegaMix for the Saturn, may have been left-overs from that port. I always wondered that Sonic the Fighters could have looked like on the Saturn. It probably would have run at 60fps in standard resolution mode with the stretch and squash animation in tact. I would have probably bought it too :(

Sonic and Tails character data is hidden in the arcade version of Fighting Vipers, but the characters are unacceptable. They were apparently meant to be hidden fighters. But it may have also been testing for Sonic the Fighters, as StF uses the same game engine as Fighting Vipers. because AM2 made both games around the same time.
