What did the oldheads who were online around 1997/1998 think of this redesign for Sonic? What did the communities you frequent think?

Also, thoughts on the club remixes of Work It Out?

Never liked it, only recently came around to its charms, but the Toei animation design will forever by my preference as the best middle ground of all designs.

I thought it was cool. Also never distinguished between "Classic Sonic" and "Modern Sonic" like that Generations retcon started, even his additional different render from during the "Saturn era". I thought pre-Adventure Sonic designs looked cool, too.

That remix is not my thing, though. I love the original song, though.

It’s kinda weird to think the redesign happened only like 6 years in. I’m 31 so only have the briefest memories with classic Sonic as the main sonic, but the US cartoons and merch lingered with the classic design until the early 2000s. So it made it feel like Classic was a decade old when the R/ Adventure design came out, especially since R was relatively obscure and Adventure hit the US in the later half of 99.

If you were more aware of things I guess you’d just think of it as a style change for that game, instead of it being a big deal or being really attached to the first design
