Interesting to find a retro enthusiast in this god-forsaken country.
But I was actually more interested in the TV. I have one like that but 29". It's just too big and really heavy, so moving it takes 2 people at least. I would like to find a 20"/21" one.

—I’d like to ask a bit about the environment you played in. Looking at the picture you shared with us, it looks like you sat with your legs crossed while you played?

MON: Yes, that’s how I played.
—Sitting cross-legged like that and playing for a long time, didn’t your legs start to hurt or get numb?

MON: In my case, that didn’t happen.
—Did you choose that posture because playing on an arcade cabinet with your elbows bent is straining, but sitting cross-legged like this allowed you to keep them straight?

MON: No, that wasn’t it. I find playing on an arcade cabinet very easy, and it's the standard for me. I just found the cross-legged posture the easiest way to emulate that.
—I see you play on a tate’d CRT…

MON: I do pretty much all my gaming on a CRT.
—Right, HD TVs still have problems with screen lag/delay.

MON: Yeah. Especially with the 2nd loop of Death Label, there’s parts where the speed of your reaction time is being pushed to the limit, so you want to minimize any display lag.
MON’s setup.
—I noticed your joystick there is the HORI Real Arcade Pro. Have you made any modifications to it?

MON: I’ve made one small adjustment, actually. Not with the electronics, but I adjusted the microswitches to change the play in the stick by adding spacers.
—Was this to reduce the play in the stick?

MON: Not necessarily… there’s still some play there. It was just to make it easier for me personally. (laughs)
—Did you swap out the buttons or the stick itself?

MON: No, I didn’t change anything there.
—That’s somewhat unusual.

MON: It's often said among gamers that “the best stick for STG is Seimitsu, and the best for fighting games is Sanwa.” But personally, I think that in the end whatever is easiest for you to control is best. So this time I used a Sanwa stick.

A set-up like that is better than a real cab imo.
You can rotate very easily, swap controls in a matter of seconds, and a Sony TV like that one is going to be hard beat unless you spend big money on a low hours Nanao monitor. And even then the Sony might have better color.

all the CAVE shmups on ps2 have an option in the menu to rotate (tate) the screen, most other shmups on the console do rotate apart from a few,

also the taito memories, 4 disc collection has the tate option, its just difficult to find, as this is the only jap game that doesnt have menus in english, the english release taito legends doesnt have the tate option and less games

ps2 is def the best console for arcade ports, its got most of the major shmups covered, fighters, near complete neogeo collection, and all the classics with compilations from namco, capcom, taito, snk, midway

im not an expert or autist, so details like minor delay or run ahead dont mean shit to me. all the arcade ports ive played on ps2 i cant fault,

apparently the cave ports on ps2 r some of the best compared to the steam pc ports, tho i did read that on reddit.

the benefit of using a ps2 is its a lot easier to plug into a crt, a lot of the games are considered to be arcade perfect ports, especially certain SNK games, ive stuck a bunch on internal hdd and load with openloader, its simple AF.

emulation thru mame is obviously, the top choice if ur using a pc, connecting it to a crt can be a headache as you have to play with custom drivers/ resolutions/ refresh rates just to get ur picture right, if ur rotating the screen as well, much more hassle to set up. i know the CAVE shmups in mame need at least a core2duo to run full speed, so anything less powerful like a raspberry pi might not be up to the job,

i'd like to have my pc connected to a tate crt, but the ps2 is just as good as it covers all the important arcade games from 1978 upwards.

I didn’t even think about the connectivity issues, I run a thinkpad t400 with a vga crt monitor so hdmi wasn’t even on my mind. Might be time to break out my ps2 from the basement though and play around with some of the ports. Thanks anon
