I present to you the best way to play Famicom games outside of emulation.

Why do these Twin Famicoms look like they're way older than they actually are? The aesthetic looks like it's from the 1960s.

>> No.9579723

AV Famicoms have one big issue in that they improperly mix audio from cartridge expansion chips/FDS, leading to weird volume issues on those channels compared to console's stock audio. There are hardware mods to fix that though.

You can use a controller that uses the gun/controller port. I do that with my Famicom.

Wasn't there an audio balancing issue that is different than using the original Famicom with a disc system? Even using an AV Famicom with a disc system had different balancing too. So which is the best balance between the audio channels?

Problem with that is there's a good handful of games that don't work with that port.
Notable stuff includes SMB2 and Battletoads, and a some other titles like Solstice (and if you care, a decent amount of homebrews)

I've never seen one of these working. Even new out of the box they don't read carts.

Yeah, even some of the later model regular Famis have fucked up expansion audio balance (I'm not sure which models, but I think they were doing the FF branding era). From my recollection, the FF original Famicoms are an easy fix, Twin Famis were also maybe an easy fix, but the AV Famicom requires more extensive modding to correct the audio.

I have a pretty good collection of Famicom Games, but I don't have those carts.... I wonder if this same problem would appear if I used my Famicom N8? And if so are there patches to resolve such issues?

>I wonder if this same problem would appear if I used my Famicom N8?
Yes, the expansion port doesn't work simply because the game didn't account for it. Patching games to work with it would likely not be as simple as it could be due to how $4016/17 are setup (I don't think the required change would fit inline in most game's input handlers), but I could certainly be wrong and you could probably get it working. I'm not aware of any such patches since its really kind of a niche issue

I had a Retron 3 which was at least hardware based instead of just a glorified emulator, but it had awful Genesis sound and smelled like cheap plastic cooking whenever it was in use.

>> No.9580279

>>9579868
It's entirely subjective. I like the loud, harsh AV Famicom expansion audio, others totally hate it. Many find the Twin Fami to be a nice balance. I find the Famicom and Twin to be really "warm" sounding, but quiet for expansion stuff.

the colors are V different even on nes
when you plug into several different consumer crt

i remember even as a kid twisting the various tint knobs trying to get it to "look right"
my parents would be pissed trying to watch movies\tv and the colors would be slightly twacked from my nes gaymen

There were a buttload of hong kong hack jobs. Check the RF board,
