I didn't have a PS2 or Wii when they came out, but I bought them recently to play pirated games on. Why did they have USB ports? And the Wii an SD card slot?

Thanks for the info but
>letterbomb it before you cant
What does this mean??

>> No.9571765

Letterbomb is out of date now you can just use str2hax to hack your system without even using an SD card.

The USB ports were for peripherals like webcams, keyboards, microphones, ect.
SD cards were essentially memory cards for the Wii. You could also insert the SD card from your camera and view photos and videos(?) on your TV through the photo channel.

>Why did they have USB ports?
Generic accessories. Eyetoy connected via USB, some PS2 games had keyboard and mouse support, the Wii supported USB Ethernet adapters, there was a Wii microphone that connected via USB, maybe some other stuff.
>And the Wii an SD card slot?
The Wii used SD for save data backups, message storage, backing up additional channels if you run out of internal memory, certain games could use it for additional save data, you could put pictures on an SD card and use/browse them in certain games or channels.

Worth mentionning that SD support on the Wii is crap. It was only designed for SD as in "2GB maximum capacity SD" not SDHC or SDXC and even though nintendo patched in support later a lot of official Wii software doesn't work with SD cards over 2GB.

Both had accessories that used the USB ports. The Wii I know had a microphone, likely others too, and the PS2 had the camera and microphones, I think others as well. Extra ports on a console are not unheard of anyway, many consoles have had ports that never even got used, like the GameCube. Sony is rather well known for the launch versions of their console shaving many ports that once they never get used in an official manner they remove in later revisions.

>wii stored save data on the sd

No it didn't, you could backup save data to the SD card but no game directly read/wrote saves to it. The Wii didn't even support putting downloaded games on the SD card until a later update, and launching a SD card game still makes it temporarily copy the game to internal memory. And it took even longer for it to support SDcards larger than 2GB.

>like what?

Any game that uses an IOS older than 60, since that's the first one that added SDHC(Cards from 4GB to 32GB) support. I know that the loading custom music off a SD card feature for Excite Truck doesn't work on SDHC cards since that was an earlier game that came out well before SDHC support. It might work if you use hacks to force it to load under a newer IOS or CIOS though.

>i can't run wii backups in usb ports

Why not? I haven't had much trouble doing that, especially with modern homebrew. Are you using the correct USB port? Which one you use actually matters. And are your CIOS files setup properly? (don't use any of those auto-hacks, they were total garbage that just replaced every IOS slot in the system with the same CIOS, it was made by idiots who had no idea what they were doing. All the prominent Wii/Nintendo hackers have warned never to use that crap). The modern versions of USB Loader GX even support not just WBFS and FAT16/FAT32 but even exFat and NTFS.

>>9573092
The USB drivers used in cIOS are absolute garbage and have poor compatibility with USB drives, particularly USB flash drives. It's not the same driver IOS58 uses which makes it particularly annoying, because drives can work under HBC or Nintendont but not under a USB loader.

darkcorp is still useful if you want to pirate CTGP-R. Only legitimate use case I can think of for it though.

The PS2 having USB ports was very future thinking. Being able to use any keyboard and mouse in compatible games rather than some special branded one was brilliant.

Update your cIOS, I don't have any issues
