What /vr/ games are we playing handheldbros? What are we playing on? Thinking of consooming another handheld you don't need?

I'm alternating between Arrow Flash and Soul Calibur on my RP3+ atm.

If this is going to be your one handheld, then definitely the RP3+. If you're a coomlector of handhelds like a lot of us retards in here, then flip a coin I guess. What I'd tell you is as far as 5th gen goes, the chip in the 353 series can finally handle ALL of the PS1 edge cases without issue, so it's good for that. I think I've read it still has some issues with n64 though, and just fucking forget about Saturn when even the RP3+ still has 3 games it can't emulate at fullspeed even if frameskip is on (Grandia during battles, Burning Rangers, Dragon Force).

>> No.9571838

Do I need more power for 5th gen? I like the metal shell, sticks, dpad, 4:3 screen more though if I'm going to be playing ps1/saturn/n64. Does the rp3+ have analog triggers? If it could do ps2/gc reasonably well that would be attractive.

That thing is sexy af too. I really like the F300 for it's smaller size though. It was ~$60 when I bought it a few years ago, I don't know what they go for these days with how retarded prices have gotten for a lot of things. I'm just using the stock buttons at the moment because frankly they just werk, but I ordered a chink ripoff of seimitsu LS-32 from ali when I was purchasing the powkiddy since it was cheap enough even if it sucks. I don't know if I'll put it in my mayflash or the Powkiddy at this point.

I might go back and try my luck at some chink clone of seimitsu buttons too if the stick turns out okay.

I really like my RG353m but the current state of custom firmwares is pretty bad...
JelOS dropped all Anbernic consoles and I never was a fan of ArkOS. Apparently AmberElec will be supporting it one day but it could take months before a first version.
On top of that, I noticed that all custom firmwares on my 353m somehow have washed out colors compared to the stock firmware. It seems that Anbernic silently released a "v2" 353m with different screens from the initial release's, not sure which is better but at least none of the custom firmwares were updated to properly use that new screen yet.
It's a real shame because the 353m is my favorite handheld on hardware side so far: good enough specs for simple Saturn/Dreamcast games, 4:3 screen, supports wi-fi/controller/hdmi and small enough to carry everywhere while still somewhat comfortable to use.

It could be your Memory Card dying, the same thing happened to mine when started dying and at end I could not even open a Vita game without crashing.
The Vita MC are really bad and not that reliably, just get a SD2Vita and a good micro SD. You could also try to remove the MC and clean the contacts with some isopropyl alcohol.

Playing Shadow Tower for the first time on my 1000 PS Vita. Remapped the controls a bit to move with dpad and look around with face buttons, and to attack with R1 and L1, and Select as R2 so it kinda controls like Dark Souls. It's easier to map the controls om the PS TV but this is a handhelds thread.

Valve isn't selling them officially in Australia so they are grey imports, with all the caveats that entails like no warranty support. GCN/Wii issues was a Dolphin regression, see https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2022/12/21/dolphin-progress-report-september-october-november-2022/ under the "Optimize GetVertexSize" section but you could just bruteforce through issues by disabling cores and pushing the clocks to max by tweaking the Steam Deck. It really depends on what you want though, but the Steam Deck is the x86 handheld to get and the Win600 while cheaper is a lot worse and limited.

I'm new to this stuff, just got a RP3+. From what i understand, I basically use retroarch for all systems up until like ps1 and others like pppsssspppp or whatever and dolphin and whatnot for systems beyond that. Set up a ROM directory somewhere in the device storage and dump my collections there. Then once I've got reteoarch cores installed and configured I can go in and use the retroid frontend or an alternative like dijishu or something for a nice pretty UI to launch games. Is this the basic idea? I'm not going to be installing alternate OSs on the RP3+, just frontends and emulators?

They designed games around using both screens. Nintendo pushed pretty hard for devs to make use out of the touch screen feature for the lower screen, and this led to quite a lot of square pegs jammed into round holes out of obligation, ergo needless and obnoxious gimmicks foisted on the player. Dawn Of Sorrow comes to mind, the stylus adds exceptionally little to the gameplay, and it actually flows a lot better if you use a romhack which removes the mandatory stylus poking.

Eventually this would be more relaxed, and thus for a lot of games, the second screen didn't serve much more of a purpose other than being something like a map screen, inventory screen, or status screen, which you could manipulate with your stylus if you for whatever reason wanted to take your hands off of the controls.
Those could be pretty convenient and handy in some games, but they also wouldn't have suffered if they only had one screen to work with. Some games were made with the touch screen in mind, such as some drawing games, or Trauma Center, where its application is actually pretty cool and thematically well placed, but most videogames aren't the kind where using a stylus on a screen is a critical or badly needed feature.

So, a gimmick which kind of could be cool for the right kind of games, but which was widely unnecessary. I want to liken it to if the Virtualboy could have been hooked up to a TV to play the games in regular 2D, and then only early games were made with the 3D in mind while most devs just put token efforts in for the 3D and expected you to play it on your TV.

To make this post more retro, the original DS had a slot for GBA slots, of course, so beyond the thing playing DS games, you could play all your favorite GBA games, or pick up later ones for cheaper as the market was moving away from it. Also, some DS games could have some form of interaction with prior GBA titles if two relevant ones were inserted, typically bonuses in a DS sequel to a GBA game.

There's too much shit to keep up with as is. The Next 2 seems to be a Steam Deck competitor judging by the trackpads, but I think the race for power is a bit pointless for x86 handhelds. Good for those that care though and have the money to splurge, or are actually willing to sell their devices each time a new one comes out.
That said the Air Plus and the Pocket Air are interesting, they pretty much seem to have the same design as the base Air and in some cases even most of the parts with the Pocket. I kind of want one since I hear Windows on Deck isn't perfect, just for the few games that don't play well with Proton.

Some zelda randomized ROMs on my RG351p.
I'll be honest, I don't use this thing much anymore. I particularly don't find it that comfortable to use, the screen is shit not just for the fact that it's the p model with the resolution more fit for GBA games but ass for anything else, but also because there's backlight bleeding, I had a little accident with it, replaced the screen with a new one that cost me more than if I just got a different better handheld, and the backlight bleeding was still there or even slightly worse on the new one. I think I just realized that 1. I don't play portables much to begin with, 2. I don't like flat handhelds which are most of them, I need some grip, and 3. I think bigger screens are honestly better. This seems kinda small regardless of resolution.

I don't know that I would grab another handheld though. It'd be nice if there was a really decent telescopic controller for android that was lagless and wired, had membrane buttons for face buttons and d-pad instead of snap dome switches or whatever the fuck and had some handles. Only linux based still somewhat cheap handheld I know that has handles is the RGB10 Max 2 if I'm not mistaken but I'm not getting dated shit when they're popping out 20 new handhelds a month.

This is true, but for these android devices you're basically supposed to just keep them in sleep mode when not using them. On the RP3+ it practically uses 0 battery as long as you don't have a fucking PS2 emulator open or something. I just select "close all apps" and then quick tap the power button to put it to sleep when I go to bed.

>>9585583
Shipments have generally been around a month (at least to burgerland), but they recently stated they overcame a bunch of hurdles and will be shipping faster or w/e. That's likely cancelled out by a week of orders that happened/are happening while they're out until the 23rd for Spring Festival... So you're probably still looking at about a month.

Did you guys know the RG405M is going to be a thing? I fucking didn't. Apparently it has the same T18 chip as the RP3+ and RG505, but with a 4 inch 4:3 screen, meaning it will be the first 4:3 handheld that is finally stronker than the RP2+.

Too bad it looks like they screwed it all up with the d-pad placement. I imagine weight will also be a concern considering the 353m was already 232g and looks to be a good deal smaller.

out of curiosity, does anyone know if there’s a way to tell if this lens is original or a reproduction? The GBC itself checks out, but apparently there’s a black light trick you can do on original lens… the problem with that though is the people who do that trick seem to have len’s that are heavily used and look to be sun bleached a bit causing the color on pikachu to become closer to that light green that would get picked up by black light. Meanwhile, if you watch somebody open an unopened one, the colors tend to be darker like mine.

Still, I’ve got the itch to know if everything on my gameboy is original or if the original lens was thrown out.

Ok, I need a bit of help configuring the RG351V
I am using arkOS since day one, so I have no idea if the issue is also present on the original.

While normal Snes games are ok, I can't get anything that uses the hi-res mode or has special chips to run correctly. Kirby Super Star / Kirby's Fun Pack is the one I just can't get

- Snes9x Current slows downs and sound gets choppy

I'm looking for something comfortable without clicky buttons (I just prefer normal contact pads) that can be used on the sides rather than with a clip. The gamesir and razer kishi ones aren't for me. I usually can tolerate input lag (and I am an oldfag from the CRT era) to a certain point. So far the RG351v passes the Super mario World Test for me (I always use Yoshi's Island 1 to test input lag) to a degree.

As long as it is not on Mega Man X1 from X Legacy Collection level, I can deal with it. That one was so bad that I started thinking I was getting old. Ended setting up the OSSC to confirm that it was poor emulation.

There's no physical back button by default, so you basically have 3 options:
>swipe up from the bottom of the touchscreen and tap the "Back" triangle on the bar that appears, or do equivalent "Back" gesture if you selected that option under system settings
>hold whatever button combo you set to activate mouse mode (for me it's L2+R2) down for 3 seconds, then press the B button. In mouse mode, the B button is mapped to "Back", and X is mapped to that thing that lets you view all open apps.

Do you want an easily pocketable-system for PS1 and back with decent battery life and (arguably the best) construction, QC and build?

The Deck even with taxes doesn’t cost $650. It costs that much if you go for the higher end models with a travel case and a built in SSD, but you don’t really need it. You could just buy the cheap one for $400, your own case later on and a microSD card with similar performance.

The Deck is better than it appears. Slightly wider than a Wii U game pad, but RE4, SMT3, Wild Guns Reloaded and Umihara Kawase Shun play great. The only slight is that it’s not “portable” in all bags due to its size. Here’s hoping the Ayaneo Pocket Air or even the Air+ has a reasonable price and good performance.

Ever noticed how despite being delicted as the working class, the mucus family are always kicked from their own homes? It's to activate the white genocide gene that's been hard coded in your youths brains before they were even born. How do transexuals come into play you ask? Aside from race mixxing, what's the easiest way to reduce sneedle cattle? That's right, gender surgery. Boys who become woman only do so becuase they give up. Just like our pal tom. In the new mucinix commericals, tom no longer has a burley deep voice and instead sounds like he switched from beef to tofu. (Exactly what happned in the grinch's witch to cgi) People who watch the original commericals think, he's weak? I'm weak. He gave up? I should too! Trannies are sorta caused by the media, but always the media made by your own country. Uncle sam wouldn't approve of this.

>whats your take on the TrimUI model S?

not the same anon but I have one. Its actually one of my favourite handhelds. Definitely go for the trimui version, they are slightly nicer quality. Its not immensely powerful, & i thought it was going to be too small to be comfortable, but custom firmware did quite a lot for performance (& completely eliminated screen tearing). It was surprisingly comfy to hold, i usually get cramps on small devices but this seems to be fine for longer play sessions. The buttons & dpad are some of the best ive found in a small form factor handheld. Clicky & responsive, great for fighting games.

I also own an anbernic RG280m & RG350mp which i got around the same time as the trimui model S. I use the model S much more than i use all the others combined.

I never see people talk about these on here which is sad since its a super comfy handheld.

WELP I'm sorry to say anon, but DW4 is not running as well as I'd hoped. I tinkered around with a lot of settings including the ones the guy in the spreadsheet listed, even uninstalled Aether 1.4 and installed 1.5 from the dev's site (1.4 is what is on the playstore), and there are still a ton of dips to the 40s during gameplay. Maybe there's a specific setting he toggled beyond "Fast Settings" that he forgot to list, but at least from my perspective it seems like he got a little overzealous.

I'm sorry if I got your hopes up anon. I absolutely adore my RP3+, but it's really not a PS2 machine broadly speaking. Stuff like God Hand, Shinobi, Persona 3 all run great, but others like this, Gungrave and Gungrave Overdose, Onimusha 3 and Dawn of Dreams, Tekken 4 etc just can't maintain or in some cases even hit fullspeed during actual gameplay.

The KT-R1 will perform quite a bit better, hopefully that actually goes up for order soon like the creator has been saying it will.

Tried to buy an Anbernic but my bank said no. Too lazy to call. Are there any good budget handhelds I can get either on Amazon or a site most US banks won't have me call for?

WELL IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN

WHERE AT LEAST I KNOW IM FREE

you can also try the official Anbernic store on Aliexpress, I haven't had any issues ordering from there. they also offer much better refund and customer support than Anbernic themselves, who may just fucking ignore you or offer $30 back if your product is defective. I was also able to order directly from Retroid's site. both sell some of their devices on amazon for a bit of a premium.

It was supposed to be over yesterday, yeah. They'll probably be a little backed up on orders, but still better to order now than later.

What's the best way to play GBA games on a DSi? I know that they run a lot better on a 3DS but i really like how they crips the pixels look, especially on a DSi XL.

GBARunner2. It's not great but the DSi version is a lot better than the DS version.

Thanks. I really hope they start updating gbarunner2 again (no too confident about it though), games do look amazing on it but the performance is still far from perfect. I started playing Golden Sun on it and while it looks great the sound glitches really threw me off.
