It doesn't hurt that a lot of the aliens in the original XCOM would translate pretty smoothly to DOOM. Reapers are basically Pinkies, Floaters are damn near Cacodemons, Sectoids could replace Zombiemen easily enough. Graphical things, mostly. The biggest is to bring over the plant sprites from 94P to update episode 4 to look more appropriate. Some maps I made earlier in development could also do with some more visual improvements. Ideally the dehacked would also be rebuilt to use the extended pointers instead of existing pointers for maximum compatibility with gameplay mods, but that's a lower priority.

However, the other main reason I haven't called this a release candidate is because some maps got a lot less testing during development than others. I am very open to tweaking gameplay as well - e.g. the change to MAP30 in gamma 2.

There was another game started by another company (Magnetic Interactive or something like that) in 1995, Hellraiser : Virtual Hell. This used the Build Engine, and was supposed to be about advanced virtual reality research accidentally "reaching hell", supposedly it was meant to feature a mix of different kinds of gameplay, as well as going from 1st person to 3rd person, one of the possible bad endings was the player becoming a cenobite.
The concept for the game sounds like it was ambitious (if strangely fourth wall breaking), what few screenshots and shown off assets exist look pretty, and it was to feature some voice acting and FMV footage of Doug Bradley himself as Pinhead, recorded this during downtime from shooting Hellraiser Bloodlines.
The devs could never cope with the engine (be that for having too ambitious of a vision, or if they ran into the kind of problems Blood's devs did trying to get technical support from Ken Silverman), and in spite of having supposedly like +90% of the assets done, they think the game is shitty and unsalvageable, so they cancel it.

A couple of screenshots of empty levels were shown, some map layouts, and apparently some sprites and textures were shown at some point, in .jpeg form. I think this game was much further along, and probably had at least a somewhat playable build.

Only ones for Halo Custom Edition that come anywhere near the quality of the original campaign are Project Lumoria (this one actually has new original maps, definitely recommend), Flood: Virulence (this one recycles the campaign maps) and SPV3 which is a remake mod. Expanding my previous post, there's also Operation Purgepoint which has a bunch of maps, but the quality of the maps is mixed to say the least. Covert Ops, which isn't very polished but somewhat charming due to how wacky and almost experimental it can be. Haven't done that sort of thing at all but the use of 3D models aren't uncommon for making player and monster sprites in the style of Doom, pretty sure that was the case with REKKR. Also sure there's some Blender scripts or something that can streamline the process of doing each rotation.
