For emulation, I've been trying to find out what methods can be used for widescreen, without pop-in, culling, or other major issues. I was hoping you could help.

Let's start with dreamcast. The following games support 16:9 native (anamorphic):
Donald Duck Quakers, Rayman 2, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, Toy Commander, Toy Racer.

The following work in redream with the widescreen hack setting:
Crazy Taxy 2, Cyber Troopers Virtual On 2, DOA 2, Dolphin Blue, Fighting vipers 2, Ikaruga, MvC 2, Power Stone 2, Resident Evil Code Veronica X, Shenmue 1&2, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure 1&2.

The following work in Flycast, might work in redream, not sure:

Metropolis Street Racer actually has a cheat code for widescreen. I think you have to beat the main part of the game to unlock it for some reason.

Also have you looked into actual widescreen hacks? I know Shenmue has widescreen hacks that use hex codes to change the viewable area of the game to make it widescreen and it's not just for DC, I used it on Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn and it ran really well.

It works for the most part, I'd say around 20% of the stages have some error in them due to being 16:9, such as the elevator section during the third stage.

Genesis GX Wide is fantastic on a screen that's not quite 16:9, like the 3DS. It hides the pop-in a little bit better.
I played through Buster's Hidden Treasure on my N3DS and it felt like an updated port.
