When it comes to hours of gameplay in a game, so many people focus on quantity. For me, the quality of those hours is far more important. SMW may only be 10 hours long, but that's 10 hours of good fun. I'll take 10 hours of fun over 100 hours of tedium any day. When I'm done with SMW, I'll move on to another short-but-fun game. I'm no longer a child that has to make the one game I get at Christmas last all year. I'm absolutely swimming in games these days, as I'm sure everyone here is. I don't need to squeeze 100+ hours out of a single game anymore.

Okay but Fire Emblem isn't hours of Tedium though. It's not grindy and you can't even repeat battles in most older games so it's about proper experience points allocation to the right people. Not as interesting as say, Langrisser, but still good. Just because newer Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics is grindy does not mean you should think all games are like that.

Fair enough; I'll admit that the point I'm making is one that I usually make when JRPG fags criticize me for playing shorter, punchier action games (that don't waste my precious free time with literal chores like grinding and farming), and claiming that their JRPGs are the better option because "muh hours of gameplay per dollar". At least SRPGs have more going for them than just grind for hours and mash confirm until win. But I'm still adamant about quality over quantity when it comes to hours of gameplay in a game. Give me a choice between a 20 hour game that's fun and engaging the entire time, or a 100 hour game with 40 hours of fun and engaging gameplay and 60 hours of tedious chores, and both games are the same price, I'll take the 20 hour game every time.

You can make fun of this if you want, but I was kind of like this for most of my life. I could not play 2D platformers on handheld until very recently. There was something that felt really off about playing on a screen I was holding. It's something you can get over if you do it enough, but it's a very hard feeling to describe if you don't feel awkward playing these games on handhelds.
