Playing Parasite Eve on the 351V. Not too far in yet, but I'm liking it so far. Threw some arcade stuff on it too, but I haven't messed around with much of that yet.
The only thing that's seriously tempting right now is a Steam Deck, but I'd rather not spend that much on something I might not end up using much. I'd be tempted to get a V90 just to mess around with if they were cheaper though.

Bro just literally search for "emulator game compatibility list" + whatever emulator you are using. Realistically, it's going to really depend on what you're using.

Also, it's better to just search on Plebbit in /r/sbcgaming since some people have made lists for best emulator cores for RetroArch like this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroArch/comments/ugdwsr/what_would_you_consider_the_best_cores_on/

Otherwise if you're trying to emulate shit like PS2 etc, just use standalone emulators on Windows. More times than not, the better performance is on Windoze as much as it kills me as more of a Linux guy myself.

Anyway, hope that taught you how to fish and not be a lazy fuck. It really is just a search away sometimes. It's not programin, it's literally just Vidya game consuming. More often, some retard has had the same problem then you.

You just have to look.

I am kinda a sucker for purpose built devices based around one single system with themed menus and such.
AtGames came so fucking close, that shell with a good menu, an emulator that runs Gen, CD and maybe 32X and a better looking menu that lets you delete the internal games and it would have been golden. Maybe even a coaxial cable for connecting two handhelds for player 2.
Instead it's a Gen on a chip that can't save / quicksave, it sounds horrible, has an ugly menu and you need to put the games you add yourself on a second menu... trash.

Only thing I debate nowadays is just getting a controller for my Pixel 7 these days. That's about it. Everything else looks like a scam if it's not around $40 to 60 hence I debate a Miyoo Mini sometimes.

More on the RG353P as well, I just figured out how to use .dosz for DOS games aka just rename them, stick them in the 'pc' folder and they boot just find with DOSBox Pure core on the device though they should up on the "IBM" collection on the theme I'm using (Probably cause IBM DOS etc)

Completed Castelvania: Bloodlines, Super Castelvania IV and Rondo of Blood. Sega game is best part. Rondo too almost perfect, but I dont like secret levels and first form of Dracula. And number part is worst for me, its more platformer then action. Dracula is so imbalance, first form is insane. Its simalar with Rondo first Dracula form, but harder x4. If you're that big about the nostalgic form factor, RG353V is good too (not the RG353VS because you can only boot into Linux with that one. You can dual boot to Android and Linux on the RG353V)

Sick. I really liked Bloodlines. I couldn't manage to really try to beat that game without save states either. I wasn't the best best at it but I remember it being super fun.

I think I'd go back to Harmony of Dissonance for GBA to finish that up since I was stuck at one part where I literally have every conceivable map square filled out yet couldn't find out where to go.

Minor thing but I thought about it and think the creators of JELOS are huge faggots for not giving builds for releases.

If they were going to do that shit, they should have done it from the start so I could avoid that bullshit. What annoys me is that I will need to somehow hope to God that my favorites carry over to unofficial OS. If I'm not mistaken, since the second SD card in an RG353P houses ROMs etc, I am pretty sure the favorites is just an XML file there too so realistically I should just be able to reflash the first SD card containing the OS.

Has anyone else here upgraded to Unofficial OS and noticed if their favorites section carried over? I ask because I painstakingly favorited a lot of good shit from my ROM hoard and don't want to to that process again aka, go through ROM, check gameplay video that shows up, debate in 2 secs if it looks good, favorite it etc.

Unironically use Reddit aka look up /r/roms megathread and first Google result will be what you want to use.

For stuff like Nintendo Switch, PS4 etc, it's a bit tricky and you will probably need an '1fichier' account so you don't get rate limited when grabbing roms. Also use a VPN for sites that require 1fichier so you can keep swapping countries and not get rate limited.

https://github.com/devnoname120/vitabright
It's great and really easy to use. On my Vita1k I use the 0.9 version where I put the bright slide all the way down and the screen would change to something like Flux/night mode. I recommend that version if you have a Vita1k and still on 3.60 because I don't know if the newer version of the plugin which add support to Vita2k changed something. But looking at the lut.txt file that comes with the plugin, the version 1.1 still comes with the Flux like gamma table and was removed in the version 2.0.

super close to buying an atari flashback portable.

I had one before, but screen was scratched so i sold it. It was just awesome. super simple games - just what i want to play when im on a handheld. screen is super clear, Easy to switch games, and dont care if it gets dropped/stolen because its so cheap. Colors are also so basic that any light angles dont affect images with gradients (because there arent any!)

Up to PSX, I would say Anbernic RG353V as this has HDMI output and can allow a a USB controller to be plugged in.

I did some research and this Plebbit post states you can connect controllers via Bluetooth on the Android side. Willing to be if you just connected it via USB, it would probably be just fine:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/wc7wwl/can_you_connect_two_bluetooth_8bitdo_controllers/

Check this video at Timestamp 25:30 since he goes over how HDMI output works, looks like Linux side aka JELOS would be better for this scenario to ensure the correct aspect ratio is being rendered out to the TV:

Just got back from a trip to Canada to see my hometown after 12 years. Found my high school GBA in one of my storage bins and was surprised I actually kept it after the screen was smashed via one of those damn flip top lights.

My advice broski, get a 'New' "LL" 3DS XL from eBay from Japan since they're way cheaper. Plus you can easily change them over to be American based and then dump whatever game ROMs you want on it as well.

I mention this because I wanted a 3DS XL for weird reasons like the nub stick to play N64 but that was before I got into the Anbernic handhelds I got.

This. Every review I've seen mentions this in that because it's so big, it's actually comfortable. Those back triggers for the palms look so nice, and I personally think the touchpads are genius on the front.

I only mention the LL idea since it's a challenge. If you're up for it and find a guide online first, do it. Otherwise you need to do your research first. I mention this because I've seen it done before. But you will need some patience and make sure you read through any soft mod guide for the 3DS as well.

I have a hacked 3DS XL and believe me, having an SD card chock full with every fucking 3DS game and DS game is pretty fucking awesome.

Totally worth it if you haven't done this yet. Have hacked multiple devices and only the Switch, PS4, and 3DS were worth it.

The Wii U and PS3 were a huge waste of my time since all the Wii U games for ported to Switch and there aren't any decent games for PS3 to the point where I basically just used it to play PS1 games which was trash anyway since you couldn't really remap the controls exactly the way you want it.

The Gamesir D Pad looks like trash. The only one that impressed me after doing research is the Razer Kishi V2 since it's USB C so no Bluetooth lag would be present and the sticks look decent.

I wouldn't go with the Gamesir since the sticks look too loose in comparison.

Also I've bought a similar shitty mobile controller before and just looking at the GameSir reminds me of the shitty plastic feel of that bad one I have.

Sure the Kishi V2 is like $80+ but if you're gonna spend on a mobile controller, get one that lasts and is good for 3D stuff. Beats spending $200 for a handheld that is basically a stripped mobile phone in a plastic shell anyway.

DSi was shit. I know people hate on 3DS with the aspect ratio thing but I honestly don't even care at all. I have all the DS games and 3DS games on a single 3DS XL. It's great and convenient. I'd get a New 3DS XL if you really wanted to play 3DS and DS games without having to have side by side screen in a horizontal layout weirdness on the $200+ handhelds.

I laugh so much when people think that shit is passable. Even emulating DS or 3DS on a PC is so weird too. Those games were only meant to be played on a 3DS or DS, hence just hack a 3DS.

I still have a NGPC I kept in good storage. But I pretty much do just keep it in storage. It's a joy to use those clicky controls, the screen and sound was good, and the system UI was kind of incredible at the time. It was cool, but I think I played maybe three games on it. Most of them were not to my taste. Basically just a Metal Slug machine. I've even toyed with the idea of selling mine. But despite what I just said I can't bring myself to do it yet. I still haven't gotten over selling my childhood SNES or Dreamcast, so now I hoard everything. So to answer your question with a question: do you really think you'll enjoy the game lineup or not? It's a bit thin unless you really like fighting and puzzle and casino games. Otherwise it's only a collectible investment. Just my opinion.

Hear me out... This was an experiment, and I think it went well.
I heard the Family Pocket was a fun and convenient device for the money and I thought "bullshit" but tried it because I was looking for cheaper gifts at the time and didn't want to setup and/or build a new device for the 50th time. It's not fun anymore.
I did take out the decoy cartridge and I did throw some other games on to test these silly Java emulators for NeoGeo and SNES, but that's it.
Metal Slug doesn't work. It won't pass the Yoshi's Island test, but I played Earthbound and Mario All Stars fine. Every GBC I've tried ran fine. All the NES and Genesis so far run fine.

It's all setup out of the box with a functioning UI in English, decent lists with boxart, easy save slot for each game, and instant on/off that (so far) seems to be about as safe as possible. I didn't swap the loaded SD for a better one yet so who knows? But six months of testing so far and no worries. I paid $25 for it. It looks and feels like a pickup and play toy and it is. Which I love.

I have several anbernic devices and so on, I'm not a pleb. I'm just sharing my findings on this. It's a really neat convenient affordable toy if you like the proposition.

(Also on a personal note, I love the sound. It isn't good although it has a vol wheel. But the mostly empty softer plastic case seems to smooth out all the bumpy squares and triangles in the sound waves of 8-16 bit games that make my ears thump uncomfortably without a great setup. I have this issue on my 351p with all settings possible tweaked. The smoothing resonance of the cheap case is a nice bonus for me.)

AyaNeo Geek and the lowest variants of the AyaNeo 2 are barely under 1k but yeah, they are overpriced. GPD Win 4 and ONEXPLAYER 2 are on Indiegogo and are under 1k even taking out the early bird pricing. The 6800u isn't that expensive from AMD, the cheapest one with the Lenovo Thinkbook is under 1k in the laptop space but everyone wants to make that margin which is why prices increase rapidly once you want to increase RAM or SSD size.

I think it was just off Amazon, probably the Family Pocket store? But I see prices have gone up. Maybe due to the holidays. I swear it was under $35 at most. Could've been Walmart. I'll have a think on it. But anyway if you get one It has a sort of hidden SD card by the battery compartment. It kicks in as soon as you remove the decoy cartridge with the usual shitty repeating Chinese copy games cheap handhelds usually have. You can toss that and snap the back on again and enjoy. That's a great resource thank you. I just don't want to futz around with another CFW or tweaking like that for a toy. I've done it so much I sometimes wonder if I've spent more time fixing the things I bought than using them.
I have found Industrial grade SD cards with power protection can help, but they do cost more. 16GB is plenty for me on games I play tho. Obviously this doesn't correct all software issues.
But IDK, I'm lazy and gullible enough to pay $50 for the Zelda Game & Watch and pray for more opportunities to give Nintendo my money for something that isn't impressive at all on paper. It's the ease of use for me now. Can't even find my soldering iron anymore. To each their own.

Why are these always so expensive?
I get that they're not getting the same exclusivity deal Valve did, but $1200 can buy a better spec'd laptop. It can buy THREE (3) Steam Decks. It can buy a full-fledged gaming desktop and a cheap streaming phone.
And it can't all be attributed to R&D costs, GPD has been doing this for years. There's just no justification.

>Why are these always so expensive?
Decks are as "cheap" as they are because Valve takes a loss on each unit iirc
They make so much money through Steam and the low costs potentially brings them into that ecosystem to fund it even further. Competing manufacturers don't really have that, so they have no choice but to jack up prices to actually profit.
We're probably not going to see another comparable handheld like this for similar prices unless it comes from Microsoft or some shit

>> No.9509557

>Valve takes a loss on each unit
That used to be the case, but not anymore.
It's why they started producing enough to do away with reservations.
Valve got a great deal through AMD that let them meet the $400 price point. And while GPD obviously didn't, $1200 for a machine that severely loses out to similarly priced laptops, which are notoriously expensive for their spec, is just egregious.

I'm guessing none of you have bought laptops before, well at least laptops that don't have dedicated gpus.
The price is in line with other laptops at that price range that don't have a dedicated graphics card. You will never in a million years get a ryzen 7 rdna2 laptop for 400 dollars, the performance of it beats apple's m1 chip.

Still honestly the performance of RDNA2 isn't too impressive, igpus were already capable of doing 720p aaa gaming way back in 2019.

Apparently there's a Pentium 8505 variant in the works alongside the Mendocino one, but if the i3 and the Mendocino models end up performing close enough to the 5560u/5825u ones, then are those going to get a perma price drop eventually or will they just stop making them entirely?

I bought one and was pretty impressed but ultimately returned it, it's not comfortable to play on for long periods of time and it's only really as portable as a laptop, easier to use without a desk sure but it takes up more space in a bag than one and is much clunkier for lots of games.

Its pretty expensive as an emu box as well, though on the go PS2 was pretty nice and its arguably a better switch than the switch.

A lot of the verified games can't be played at 60fps either, DOOM can because both of the modern ones are optimized to hell but lots of shit does about 35-40fps and chugs battery. Even stuff like Mechanicus and PZ was really clunky and didn't run great, I can't imagine trying to play something as PC autist core as STALKER on it, never mind something like factorio or an isometric RPG.

Yeah, but something like the DS Lite has super small screens with super low resolutions where any loss in detail doesn't really matter or was ever apparent in the first place. It'd only be where if you were to play it on something with a larger display like a DS capture card, a Wii U or emulated on a PC that the short comings really become apparent outside of sprite-based games.

I don't know how you knew that based off what I posted, but yes actually I've been running into some weird OS shit that I wasn't expecting. What bugs me more than that on the OS side though is missing features that I just kind of assumed would be there. I don't see a way to enable to analog cursor so that I don't have to smudge up the screen by using touch. I don't see a way to enable the xbox layout where bottom button is confirm, right button is back/cancel, and X/Y are swapped to the correct axis. I don't see a way to access my internal storage through a PC by connecting it through a USB cable. Is there a way to do that thing on android where you can see all apps that are running at once without using the touchscreen? Because if there is I haven't found it. Also this isn't a huge deal, but it just seems weird to me that pressing L/R doesn't flip between pages when you're at the main menu of the OS.

More than anything though, I just hate how big and fat it is. For the first minute or two of holding it I thought it was really comfortable, but the more I've played on it, the more it has started to annoy me. The 50g of extra weight it has on the RP3 ended up being a lot more noticeable than I was expecting, too. I don't think I'd go so far as to say it's too much, but I definitely prefer something lighter.

I dont think you really need to buy a GBA these days, it just seems like there's tons of ways to emulate it these days on chinkhelds, x86 handhelds like a Steam Deck, or even your phone.
The first two options will probably have better screens and will probably be leagues more comfortable to hold than something like an SP these days.

Remembering how I would transfer the accumated weapon bonus until by the end I had a +90 gun (or something like that).
The only thing I did not beat was the optional dungeon. Compared to the rest of the game, the difficulty gets pretty hardcore.

The weirdest memory I have from P.E. is showing the import game (Europe skipped straight to 2) to friends who had just been introduced to JRPG's with FF VII, see the square logo, then the black cop character... and ask: "Is that barret?"

Not to mention that SP, unless it is the AGS-101 backlit model, had a pretty terrible screen with the blueish tint and shadow cast by the console's built in light.

And call me crazy, but the buttons don't seem to behave correctly with certain GB games. In Pinball: Revenge of The Gator (Kirby's Pinball Land's predecessor), the flippers lack the strenght they have when playing on a GB or GBC, making the game much harder to play

If we are sticking to original nintendo hardware, the best options for GBA would be Nintendo DS Phat / Lite.

I really like the way colours look on non-backlit GBA/GBC screens.

For some games it's just the most comfy way to play, and I kinda hate myself for it. It's objectively worse, it's not even comparable to playing a console on a CRT for example, it just plain makes the image harder to see; but somehow I just really like how it looks.

Specifically shit like Pokemon. I can't put my finger on it but there's something about the way the battle screens and backgrounds etc are mostly empty space with sprites on top that just looks really good on a non-backlit screen, where the empty space is grey/silver rather than pure white.

Am I weird?

Membranes are easy to replace too, I’ve done that along with the lens. The vertical lines actually may just be a separation of the screen connector, a quick (gentle) swipe of a soldering iron along the ribbon cable connector should fix that. I’ve even fixed it with bluetak (adding pressure to stick it together) when I was waiting for a replacement iron to come in the mail, but I’d recommend a permanent fix with heat to reflow the connection, obviously.

Miyoo Mini if you want a compact/cheap one(though I imagine the Anbernic RG35XX will be a strong alternative choice once it has some third party firmware to replace the mediocre one it comes with), the Retroid Pocket 3+ if you want something a bit more powerful while still being reasonably portable and priced, and beyond that you're probably best off saving up for a Steam Deck

mind you there's plenty of other decent options in the range between the Miyoo Mini and Retroid Pocket 3+, hard to go wrong with a device as long as you do a bit of research on it first to see if it can handle what you want it to do and make sure it doesn't have any crippling hardware or software issues

Castlevanias post SOTN if you check the map very often, and early Kirby games where you need to press select to drop copy abilities.

On Switch style handhelds (vertically shorter than a switch) that place select at the top left, if you play with the d-pad at the bottom you have to go over the stick to press it, it's not great. If you want a safe option for a cheap tablet off Amazon, you could just grab a refurbished Fire tablet. Fire toolbox is pretty good for debloating those.

Do you guys ever crop your games to 16:9 or 3:2 when playing? I think a lot of games will play just fine with a bit of cropping. The older games were designed for CRTs that would cut off part of the image in the overscan area.

Excuse the uneven pixels in the example pic, it's just a quick edit.

Might be stuck trying out that one then.
You can sideload stuff on Android without any issue, I'd be surprised if that one even came with the Google play store installed.
You can generally disable most of the stuff that comes preinstalled on Android tablets, although you might have to connect it to a computer and use ADB to disable some of it.
I'm not sure it's worth the trouble for RK3566 emulation performance though.

Never tried this, how do you do it? Also sounds like it would have more success on 3:2 than 16:9

How is emulation on the PSP these days? I found my PSP Go recently.

RetroArch is going to be your best option with its fine control of screen size and cropping.

In that example image I cropped the screen as much as I felt I could get away with before affecting gameplay.
Then I multiplied the height in pixels times 1.5 to make it into a 3:2 aspect ratio.
This stretches the image horizontally just a bit but I think I can live with it.

I'm playing that new Pokemon ROM hack demo on my Steam Deck. It's called Pokemon Coral. Pretty good.

Never improved.

Snes and gba emulation suck. You'll have problems like the sound randomly giving out until you reset the game.

Valve is still working on the version of SteamOS that OEMs (and end users) can pre-load. It's still coming soon(tm). But they've been making updates to SteamOS on the Deck that indicate it's coming relatively soon.

That sounds exactly like I remember it. I got the gba emu on the 1004 PSP to play Mother 3, and after a few minutes later it started glitching badly to the point of being unplayable.

In the end I got an EZ Flash V with enough capacity to copy a 256 mbit Rom into its internal memory. Best purchase of that year.
