Is it 'retro'? It has continuously had an active player base since release and works on all modern OS. It feels a little different than booting up a PS1 to play Final Fantasy VIII.

>> No.9492131

How about you compare it to another video game like CS:GO and not a japanese emoboy cg cartoon

>> No.9492167

Yes of course, I play it on my CRT monitor still to this day and it's great

Gee, a multiplayer shooter feels different than a JRPG? Please tell us all about it.

I started playing Counterstrike during beta 4. I had only recently got cable internet. LAN parties. Peak video game times. Every single aspect of the world has turned to shit since then.

1.6 is definitely retro. Launched September 12th 2003. Kind of hard to gauge maybe. Due to the beta launching in 1999. Still my favorite MMOFPS. Possesses evolutionary physics, similar to Quake, which in my opinion, makes it legend and superior to dumbed down randy titles like CS:GO.

Why did versions before 1.6 use two different hand models depending on the equipped weapon?

>> No.9497217

>Marketing lingo
A casuals take
>wtf is evolutionary physics
not applicable to your game play apparently
>Evolutionary Physics
Any player movement that can be utilized as a technique. Often times differentiating novice players, from advanced to professional players
>I can dance all day
You're probably not old enough to know where that comes from, but that old CS quote turned meme, pays homage to my point. And if you are, I bet your the type of shit heal server admin that bans a player for crouch hopping, even when that player doesn't have crouch bound to scroll wheel. What shit server admins fail to understand, and are unable to see past their own rage at not being able to dance, is that utilizing
>Evolutionary Physics
at the wrong time, renders their hit boxes more susceptible. Knowing when and when not to ove certain ways in game is crucial in a competitive scenario. But the novice server admin has no idea about any of that. They're just butt mad they can't front flip one deag around corners. Like I said

my brother still plays this every single night. walk passed him playing it all the time on some server where all messages are displayed in spanish and everyone is speaking spanish. it's based from venezuela apparently. I don't think this game is retro yet because you're right, lots of people still play it. seems to be popular in the developing world where more current systems are more expensive to get or internet connections are comparatively more expensive to use altogether. and it gets refreshed with user-made content. try to join any server, you will have to download a collection of files that usually modify aesthetic/auditory things over the base game. of course these server-server mods can go much further than that. I think it's a good question, game does have active players, and those players drive it like a ship of theseus

1.6 has inevitably lost a lot of players of the years but still goes strong thanks for South America and non-steam players. I hate the idea of non-steam players being able to co-mingle with steam players. But if it keeps the game alive, that's all that matters to me. I wouldn't think that a title could be considered
>retro
or not, depending on how many people still play versus when the title came out.

>> No.9498460

>>9498437
it shouldn't, and that was dumb of me to suggest. i think the more important point is that it gets new players, and today, tomorrow, and the next day, someone out there is working on new things that alter the game experience when you join a server with that thing

>> No.9498518

>>9498460
I'm all for new materials, so long as their subtle. I've seen some weapon skins that were awesome. I'll never forget the red wire frame AK-47. However, if it takes two hours to download all of the materials to join the server, due to the server having a TON of stuff to download, that can get old. I suppose there is a fine line between enough new maps, materials, or environments, and an excessive amount.

>I don't think this game is retro yet because you're right, lots of people still play it.
So if there's an active community then a game isn't retro?
So SMW is not retro because people are still making romhacks for it?

fuck out of here...

Locally, there is a lot one can do. I typically rock pic related. This way the models arms, match the model selected. Again, this is more subtle. Even changing the sky box texture on the server level, doesn't require a nineteen hour download, for connecting players. Soundboards are good too. But they cannot interfere with game play.

>> No.9498952

Boosting can also be considered apart of evolutionary physics. Mostly due to those portions of the maps never having been intended to be played off of. Same with having multiple players stacked on top of each other, peaking corners a certain way or running in unison. Nade/flash/smoke stacks could slightly be considered evolutionary, maybe. Perhaps more of a tactic versus technique. All differentiates the novice from the pro though, or at a minimum shows the curve between team divisions in a league setting.

Old HLTV footage viewed through the Complexity demo viewer. There is a setting to allow for native weapon hand view. I'm not sure if that box was checked or not. Besides, I was testing. I typically play with left handed alignment though. I've made it just fine. I've dropped enough bombs in client over the years.
