Yeah, even as somebody who grew up with the original GameBoy and still uses that as his preferred system, DKL is borderline unplayable on it. Honestly I can't imagine trying to seriously play it on anything but a Super GameBoy, but then what's the point? A friend of mine had it back in the day and apparently played it on the GB, so I guess when you have limited options, you find a way.
