Superman 64

Superman is actually 84 now, thank you very much.

See:
First appearance Action Comics #1
(cover-dated June 1938; published April 18, 1938)

If Superman is 84, then Super Mario is 41. (First appeared in Donkey Kong in 1981)

Mario being 41 is believable desu. Italian genes mean you either age stupidly fast or barely at all.

Supposedly this game is completely broken but I never got the chance to see because the rings filtered me as a kid. I ended up selling it at a garage sale and have been tempted recently to try it again and see how bad it is.

It really is a pretty awful game. It doesn't get better once you get past the rings, it keeps getting worse.

I knew a kid growing up who had this and we actually played it a few times. Not many people, I imagine, ever played the multiplayer in this game, but I did.

The multiplayer was so tacked on lol

I post this in every superman 64 thread in hopes someone will share a similar memory, but as a kid I got so frustrated with this game that my dad got ahold of the level select code for me. I instantly just think about jumping to the last level to beat the game, but every time I do so it bumps me back to the title screen. I didn't understand what was happening. I did it over and over again. I was so confused why it wasn't working. To this day I like to believe that it was the devs giving me the finger for trying to cheat their shit, but in reality it is probably just broken like everything else in the game.

Lol I’m sorry anon. Every kid who got suckered into buying this remembers nothing but pain.

Let me share my story I post in ever Superman 64 thread:
I thought the commercial was really cool and begged my folks to buy this at full price when it released.

Only people who owned this when it was new truly truly understand how bad it is.
I honestly remember it fondly now.

I was pretty young, so I didn't quite understand what a bad game really was. I just felt like I wasn't getting it or something, but it was definitely one of the first times I came close to realizing video games could be bad. I think back on it fondly as well as it was a game that still sits vividly in my memory bank and only games that are special to me are like that (for better or for worse.) It is also like you said that it's a game only people who played it at the time will understand. No Angry Video Game Reviewer can really express the confusion this title brought to us. I didn't want to fly into space with it and shoot a laser beam at it for it to explode once and for all. I just wanted to know why everything in this game was against me progressing, even the fucking level select code lol.

>>9477946
I was around 7 or 8 when I got it. Within a few years it was in every magazines top 10 worst games of all times list.
I was just old enough to know I got lied to by the commercial and that I was playing a shitty game.

As a kid I managed to get past the rings to the weird parking garage level, but it was so abstract and empty that I never figured out where the fuck to go from there

This game sold between 500.000 and 1.000.000 copies and was considered a sucess by Titus, especially if we consider how cheaply and quickly it was made.
This sold so much more than A LOT of good 3rd party N64 games.

Rented it when I was a kid and I remember it was the first time I played a game and thought 'holy fucking shit is this bad', had my dad take me back to the video store to return it early and get something else. Wasn't surprised at all when this pos became so Infamous.

Paperboy 64 I consider equally bad yet it seems to have been completely forgotten. Both are amazingly terrible, two worst games on the n64 and gaming in general. Thank god Ocarina of time and Mario 64 exist to balance things out.

Whelp I got past the rings and immediately got a mission involving a car that made no sense and failed, not to mention that the free mode or whatever the fuck is just two guys you can laser beam or freeze breath and then have nothing to do. Seriously all my memories of Superman 64 can be summarized as "flying around in a vast empty city" and "those fucking rings".

One day ProtonJon will finish his Superman 64 LP. Started in 2010, released episode 10 in 2021. I think there's only 4 stages left, I've been on this ride for 12 years and I'll be damned if I don't see it to the end.

I remember renting this game as a kid and being completely bewildered and frustrated. It really is a horrible as everyone says. Who the fuck makes a Superman game about flying through rings and doing stupid fetch quests?
