One anon recommended Donkey Kong for the Game Boy and I'm shocked that I never played this game. It's probably the the coolest game I never played before. I mean I didn't exactly buy my own games as a kid and only had Tetris, Yoshi's Cookie, Fortress of Doom, and Robocop. So anyway, I was wondering what else I missed out on. Tell me anons, what are the best Game Boy games?

I was actually just playing this game over the weekend and I finally beat it after having it on my 3DS for 10 years.
It became not just one of my favorite Game Boy games, but also one of my favorite games. It was challenging, but I was glad I stuck to the end. Many of the puzzles were super clever and sometimes it took me a while to figure out what to do. Mario controls like a dream as well, although I don’t care for the roll he makes when he falls a distance.
My other favorite games for Game Boy are Mega Man IV and V, Kirby’s Dream Land 2, Kirby’s Block Ball, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, Trip World, and the Bomberman GB series of games.

>> No.9478590

I love seeing people talk about this game because I was the only person I knew growing up that played it. It's a great game. I like it more than any of the Mario or Wario games on there, and I like those too.

Trip World is worth playing at least once. I really like the Sunsoft Batman game on there too. Kirby's Dream Land and its sequels are also great. And if you haven't played Link's Awakening and like Zelda games, you need to. It's one of the best games in the series.

I haven't played these yet myself, but I hear that Cave Noir and The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls are great.

I remember playing this on a livestream with a friend watching.
His reaction was lukewarm at first

>"Donkey Kong on gameboy?"
>"Oh. Cool."
>2 minutes pass, first levels cleared
>"-What?"

>"WHAT IS HAPPENING"

Here's the part none of you knew.
Jump Up Superstar is actually the end credits theme of DK94.
You'll have to listen carefully, but you'll find that I'm right.

My favorite part of the game was the running gag where You start the game with 100000000 coins, but some convenient plot device always takes it away from you right before you get to a shop. Then you always end up finding it again when you're in a part of the game with no shops. The game's hilarious.

The best games are the obvious Nintendo ones, and they're pretty much all hits. Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a really well put together platformer and despite being someone easy, it's secret crystals required for the final boss are cleverly hidden (and the actual final boss fight is incredibly cool). Metroid 2 has crazy atmosphere and is remarkably intuitive to find your way since it's relatively linear. Zelda Link's Awakening has a ton of heart and easily holds it's own against the bigger 3D games in the series as one of the best. The Mario/Wario Land games are all great platformers, each with their own distinct flavor. The Donkey Kong Land games are a great alternative to the Country trilogy and worth playing for their own sake. Pokemon Red/Blue are well thought out RPGs that are worthy of the insane media empire they spawned.

I rate Monster Max as the next puzzle platformer after DK94 even though it's isometric instead of sidescrolling and less acrobatic. This is one no one talks about, and it was made by the guy that made Batman and Head Over Heels on the Spectrum, closing a sort of isometric puzzle platformer trilogy of Jon Ritman.

I also really like video pinball games with objectives and stages that go beyond recreating what a standard table would do. On Game Boy there is Pinball Revenge of the Gator, Kirby's Pinball Land, and Pokémon pinball, that play very similarly, and are enjoyable and simple though hard to master.

Only way I can really think of to know for sure is to ask the seller to test it for you.

Batteries in these carts are really easy to replace, thankfully. It's best to solder the replacement battery in place, but you can get away with just using electrical tape. You really just need the right screwdriver to get the cartridge open.
Or you could go full crackhead like I did as a broke teenager, hold the flame from a Bic to the tip of the casing of a ballpoint pen and press it onto the screw while it's still molten, making a screwdriver that works exactly twice. You probably shouldn't do that though.
