they are games that apply outlandish platforming abilities and conventions to other genres, ratchet a shooter, sly a stealth game, and jak/daxter a gta openworld. I think that idea has some merit, a nominally realistic human isn't necessarily the best fit for these genres from a gameplay perspective.

My gut instinct tells me that a lot of people here perceive these games as being lame because they were too old for them at the time or haven't played them. That's kinda sad. I always felt that these games got a raw deal in terms of demographics and identity. The ones i've played have a strong touch of quality.

Speaking of, I’m about to beat the Spyro series which is the last of these more popular 3d PS platformers that I’ve played.

Are there any other, lesser known platformers on the ps1/x that aren’t in that pic that are pretty decent. I just can’t seem to get enough of this genre and because of that I’m quickly running out of games to play.

It presents an even remotely unique fantasy world, even after the sequel dives straight into "GTA knockoff" territory, it still maintains a sense of intrigue with it's unique visuals and architecture, with the most spiritual fantastic elements of the first game still being around in the edges of the world.
Ratchet is actually the one that I cannot understand the appeal of anymore. The first two games had a sorta vibe to them but out of all of them the games just sorta end up feeling like kinda bland third person shooters at a certain point. Part of it I think is that there isnt really anything on the market like the other games nowadays, while not only does Ratchet still exist, but theres a thousand other third person shooter games I could play instead, as well as a thousand other quippy games with slightly edgy jokes.

Glad I wasn’t one of those people actually excited for it, and I hate to say it, but I hope that’s gonna be the final nail in the coffin for a Spyro 4 ever happening.

Death Stranding 2, Tekken 8, Armored Core 6, and Lords of the Fallen all looked pretty solid though. I’d say the announcements at the one award show were better than any E3 in the last 5+years. Hell, I’m thinking about finally gitting gud at Tekken as SF6 looks… not so good. Might start by going for Tekken 3.
