Hello /vr/! I've been lurking for a while and this is the first time I decide to post.

I'm looking to play some bomberman games, could you guys recommend which ones to play?

The one I've played the most is Super Bomberman 5 btw.

>> No.944205

I used to play the shit out of the Bomberman World demo for the Playstation.

My personal favorite is Bomberman '94. I haven't played any of the 3D games yet(I should) but '94 has the classic TG-16 look with the most features.

I've played Super Bomberman 5 and I liked it, but I always thought it looked a bit awkward.

I also heard Saturn Bomberman was really good, but good luck finding a copy of that one.

Ever tried Bomberman 64? Be warned it is a departure from the Bomberman you know. But it is a creative adventure game that still maintains elements of the series. Bomberman 64 Second Attack even changes the formula again. Both are pretty darn enjoyable though.

I can't recommend this enough.
It's so...SO good.

>> No.944218

Super Bomberman 2, Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero are the ones i played the most.

Bomberman Quest is also pretty fun. It feels kinda like a Bomberman Zelda game.

I've found Atomic Bomberman either gets flak or gets forgotten completely, but I love it. Massive customisation.

Saturn Bomberman is one of the greatest party games of all time. Not retro, but Bomberman Live and Bomberman Battlefest on XBLA are both excellent.

If you ever manage to get a ten-person game, it's amazing.

>See Bomberman Zero at EBGames
>Looks awful
>5 dollaras
>Probably is awful
>Buy it anyways just to see
>My eyes start bleeding and my heart commits suicide out of depression that such tripe was ever made.

But yeah, Super Bomberman emulated on an Xbox with 4 players is godly.

>> No.944269

Super Bomberman 3 is best of the SNES entries. The two before are ugly and limited, the two later ones are total clusterfucks. 3 is the formula perfected.

I really don't see how this is possible. I mean Bomberman isn't so deeply complex that a veneer of 'edgy' could completely ruin it, is it?

I always have a hard time understanding if people hate a game because it is genuinely bad or if it's another case of not muh game syndrome.

Hero is decent as well.

My real gripe was that each level was exactly the same design. And supposedly there was 100 levels.
After ten I had enough. The content was that of an XBLA game, the design was lackluster, and the fact that it was supposedly a Bomberman game made it worse instead of better.

PS
The supposed "story" of underground expermiental facility was just that. One sentence. No other story than that.

Bomberman Act Zero is basically the first game in 3D

>> No.944294

Super Bomberman 3 is basically a Bomberman '94 remix. It has almost the exact same graphics, both support 5 players, but SB3 supports a few more features like being able to throw bombs from the sidelines once you are dead and powerups for winning.

I think Bomberman '93 for the Turbographx or whatever is popularly considered the best one. So I'd go with that.

>> No.944346

Bomberman 2 on the NES was the first one I played, it's stuck with me as my favorite out of all of them, although Super Bomberman 1 & 2 added some really nice features.

These are the only 3 I can personally recommend as I enjoyed them the most.

>> No.944367

>>944290
Ah, that's a shame. Or maybe a dedicated story would have made things worse?

>> No.944435

Any PC Engine Bomberman. The first one is a must-own and very affordable. If you hang around the PCEFX forums you'll find a deal on a PCE, then just get a Genesis 1 power supply and run it off that. Standard NES RF modulator will do for video unless you're into RGB modding.

Some of the Super Famicom Bombermans were nice too.

Thought I would post this regardless of how good the game is or not. Pretty good for the snes at the time.

How's the story campaign on '94? I bought it on Wii VC but never got around to playing it after one successful 5 person multiplayer match.

It's fucking Bomberman. Porn has a deeper plot.

The SNES ones, especially Super Bomberman 3 and 5.

It amazes me that Konami proudly slapped their label on that piece of crap

>> No.944580

Beat me to it. The Second Attack has two player co-op, which was a dream for my brother and I. I remember it being better than Bomberman 64 but at the same time I never beat 64. Heroes is nothing like the rest of the series, so play that when your feeling a retro platformer instead of a puzzler.

Also, >>944214 that kangaroo dude just made me nostalgia.

>> No.944760

Considering the change of direction the game took, yes. I am glad it had no story.

>> No.944824

I like it. The stages are certainly better than the monotonous '93 stages, and the bosses can be very challenging.(especially the crab in the water world)

Also, '94 is the game that introduced Rooeys. They work about the same as in the SNES games, but the pink one dances instead of jumps, while the purple one can jump.

OP here!

>>944435
I've actually been looking to pickup a PCE for a while, but the shipping is probably the thing that worries me the most (I'm not from USA). I'll check it out though, maybe now is the time!

I will definitely check out Bomberman 64. It looks pretty cool and I just happen to have my N64 right next to me!

Although I dont know a lot of people that played them, the handheld Bomberman games are good too.

Bomberman Max (Blue and Red) on the Game Boy Color and Bomberman Max 2 (Blue and Red) on the GBA. I say just go directly to 2 though. There is little difference in the versions except in Red you play as Max and Blue you play as Bomberman.

If you don't know who the hell Max is, its okay he first appeared in the Max games and after that appeared on the 2 GCN games and some more handheld games. Kinda like Bomberman's Protoman, sort of.

It purposefully has the same story, level design and art style of the first NES game.

I'd have thought /vr/ would have known this instead of being part of the group of retards who got the franchise canned.

Didn't it completely lack local multiplayer? That in itself is a monumental blunder.
