Is it good for 2d games, fighters, etc? Any heavy dpad game

>> No.9468625

It's responsive and tactile. Could do worse, but honestly playing dpad heavy games with a controller that doesn't have the dpad in the primary position starts to get uncomfortable after a bit either way. I'd really look elsewhere for 2D games

I have this controller and I'm uncertain if I like the d-pad for platformers. i think it could be good, you can "feel" if you're pressing a diagonal by accident or not. but i dont like the face buttons. they're not clicky enough, they feel analog without being analog
also, you can ignore this autistic part, but it just doesnt FEEL retro to me when i use a modern controller.

That's a hard question, most likely gonna depend on the person.
I like Xbox's dpad but hate its position. Symmetrical sticks have better ergonomics for both analog stick and dpad
Playstation's dpad is good as well its up to preference I think.
Both of them are good and they have much better ergonomics than older controllers.
Xbox has reliability issues if you are unlucky face plate buttons don't work properly. Unfortunately, it is a hardware issue, so nothing you can do about it.

friend, have you considered something like this?
d pad in the correct position for 2D systems, still has analog sticks if you want them or need them, and from what I have heard the D pad is absolutely excellent on 8BitDo controllers. Plus, if you're doing stuff on Windows, it will simply be detected as any old Xbox controller so config and compatibility is as good as an Xbox controller would be.

I don't have one myself but I have seriously considered getting one for my emulator box. They also have a non-xbox looking one.

I also don't have the latest iteration of the Xbox controllers but I do have an elite controller and the D pad is nice on it, though I don't like the dish one for 2D, I swap it with the standard cross style one for those games. the dish one I give too many false inputs. but it's a different design than the latest Xbox controller, so I am really not sure.

>> No.9468874

The D-pad I think is fine enough. But like another anon mentioned, the buttons just aren't great for 2D games, not exactly ideal for playing something like the older Castlevanias.
It's functional and better than any Xbox controller in the past, but still not ideal IMO.

I love it for fighting games, shmups and platformers, surprisingly. It's not going to replace my arcade stick any time soon, but the dpad on this thing really is great.
The dpad's position relative to the rest of the buttons feels pretty natural in my hands. The face buttons aren't really anything to write home about, but I have no real complaints about them. It feels higher quality than the previous Xbox's controllers.
My only real complaint about this controller is that I can't bind the share button to anything on PC. Oh, and batteries of course, but you can buy rechargable batteries or just use it wired. It's a great controller in my opinion.
>>9468657
>so I want to get a do it as good as it gets, without strange drivers and hassle desu
I've only used mine with Windows 10 and my Xbox One S, but it's foolproof. You don't have to install any drivers if I remember correctly; I'm pretty sure the Xbox controller driver is something either already packed in with Windows or something it installs automatically.

If you want it to be zero-fuss with Windows, definitely go for an Xbox controller over Sony. And as a long time xbox fag, the new d-pads are drastically, drastically better than any other Microsoft has ever created. It's super clicky, very accurate, and generally feels very nice. Also I don't know what other anon's mean by not liking the face-buttons, they're just normal face buttons, they do the job. Also as >>9468856 suggested, the 8bitdo stuff is really good and pretty cheap.
>>9468704
>Symmetrical sticks have better ergonomics
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

>> No.9469191

>>9469164
Symmetrical sticks are better for left thumb's analog stick as well. It doesn't force your thumb unlike Xbox's position.
You have to move your thumb unnecessarily high with Xbox stick position.
I'm also not a big fan of mouse click bumpers. Buttons aren't my favorite, but they aren't as bad as other make it out to be. They are fine.
I like Xbox's Dpad see: >>9468660
Also Xbox is much better ergonomically all around than DS. It's not even a comparison. Triggers as well.
But lacks gyro, which is a big issue.
But also lacks touch pad and lightning which is unironically an advantage. (Most people don't turn them off they are worse for battery and useless features.)

Given he says he can't afford another controller, maybe he should go with Dualsense: https://www.google.com/search?q=xbox%20series%20x%20y%20button%20doesn%27t%20work%20xbox
With DS4, he has to deal with Micro-USB which is shit, has to purchase a Bluetooth sooner or later as Micro-USB keeps getting disconnected.
But Dualsense triggers also get broken. People say new colored ones are fine but they haven't been around for long. They increased trigger metal size from 0.25mm to 0.3mm.

The SCPH-1080 dpad shape hangs around until the DualShock 3 but the build is very different between all controllers. Because the original controller is packed much tighter than it's siblings since it lacked analog stick, the dpad and buttons are therefore much more firm. They had to make room for the analog sticks later down the line so the parts weren't as tight but still ok. PS2 is the squishiest out of all of the controllers because it had pressure sensitive buttons so a well worn DualShock 2 feels like your pressing on sponges.

I have one (needed a flat wired dual-analog controller), love it, and second the need for research.
>dpad is nice and crisp oldschool style, sometimes I get weird clicking sound but it doesn't affect the input
>analog sticks are great, so are the buttons
>triggers imitate the long-press triggers on modern consoles but are digital, no analog input on them
the bad:
>vibration module is shit, sounds like something's too loose in it but I don't have a mini torx screwdriver so I can't pop it open to fix
>noticeable discoloration of plastic, kinda yellowed like really old hardware; AFAIK this is a problem with all models so I got one that doesn't emulate the colors I'd be pissed off with fucking up (now I'm pissed off with not having Xbox button colors instead).

I recently played through Sonic Generations using the D-pad for the classic stages and it worked well enough. I like the Series D-pad, but for average sized hands the series controller is too small for comfortable use, especially if you are going to use the face buttons. The bone versions are better since it is a bit bigger, but I find regular 360 controllers fit best with my hands with the negative being their awful d-pads. For fighting games, I still prefer a Sega Saturn controller which also works great for shooting and platformers for me. The series controllers habe Microsoft's best d-pad, but countered by the shape and size being ideal for the average sized gradeschoolers to early teens.
