This is a reverse story but a month ago I suffered this:
>work at a retro store
>college age guy comes in
>has a massive collection of PS1/Saturn/SNES/Genesis Jrpgs, CIB and near mint, even the SNES/Genesis stuff.
>including Valkyria Chronicles, Grandia, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Shining Force, Beyond Oasis, Persona 1 &2.
>guy states "Gimmie a hundred for all this! No heckling. $100 or nothing"
>give him the cash.
>comes back two weeks latter wanting to buy back most of his childhood he just sold.
>Most of it already sold
>"I'll just look on the internet"
>checks prices online while walking around the store
>has a breakdown and starts crying in the store
Being the only person in vicinity at the time, the guy shared with me he sold it all to set up an awesome date he was having with some high school crush. Apparently it weirded her out and she called off the date early and left. Guy thought we still have most of his stuff and he would be able to just heckle it back since he knew what we paid for it, apparently he had zero idea what the value of any of it was.
Moral of the story: Don't sell your shit for a girl.

One time, my uncle gave me a bunch of old stuff from his childhood, one was a CIB NES with 2 controllers, SMB/Duck Hunt, and an orange Zapper. There's nothing wrong with spending time and money on other people, you just need to make sure it's in the right context. You are doing it because you want too, you enjoying seeing them happy, they treat you well so you want to show the favor and so on. It should never be done in a tit for tat situation or a buying a persons love/friendship, that will just get you stories like the one posted above.

I've posted this story a few times before, so someone might remember it.

A few years back when the economy went down the shitter, I lost my job and had to move in with a buddy while I was on unemployment. I started selling some of my old games to make some money to pay bills with. Highlights of my selling spree include:
- my original SNES and all my games for $120
- all my original Mega Man games on NES(but I did keep my NES)
- my wii and all the games
- my Genesis and all the games
There's probably some other shit, but that's the main stuff.
But out of all that shit, none of it hurt worse than my copy of Mega Man 7 that I sold with my SNES on eBay.

That copy of MM7 was the copy I used to rent down at the local video store when I was a kid. I bet I rented that motherfucker 50 times when I was growing up. I rented it so much, that the instruction manual had my handwriting in the back, where I had written passwords in the notes section so other could use when they rented it. I bought that copy from that rental store when it closed down for $25.

I've managed to replace almost everything else I sold a few years ago. But I'll never find that copy of Mega Man 7 again. And it pisses me off so bad when I think about it.

I already told this in one of these threads.

Long story short:
Year 1996. MegaDrive II with box, manuals, wires, two controllers, all in perfect condition. 30+ games, including Light Crusader, Alien Soldier, all Sonic games, all Ecco games, Phantasy Star IV, imported Bare Knuckle 3. All sold to some distant relative's parents for an equivalent of $20 or so - and I didn't even bother collecting the money later on, because it simply didn't measure up to the awesome 32 bit of my new PlayStation.

Passed up a PS1 for £7 once. I'm sort of okay now, since I just bought one, complete in box, with two dual shock controllers and a steering wheel for £24.

Even though this wasn't a deal. I did pass up taking a N64 box out of the rubbish. It was just lying there in the skip. I didn't check if anything was inside, and back then I thought if it's thrown out it must be full of disease and shit, so I didn't take it. Sort of wish I did, hell. I should've looked inside.

Apart from that, I never sold my retro systems, but some have broken. My brother stepped on my PS1, and tons of Gameboy's have been destroyed (Well. Only 3)

Oh, and once my mum came home with a Yellow GB, along with Super Mario Land in it's fucking box. It was a bundle pack. (sort of like pic related). She bought it for £10 I think, and I threw the box away. This was when I was about 11 as well.

I sold my Secret of Mana game with box and manual for a few bucks (don't remember how much) because I wanted some PSX game.

Sold about 20 NES games to funcoland for $2 apiece so I could get Mortal Kombat for SNES.

To get home and find it was the neutered version with bitched out fatalities. The internet back then would have saved me however it didn't really exist much yet.

The day I found out funcoland went out of business in my town I walked up there just to spit on the empty shell of a building then I went to the awesome gas station across the street that still carried Jolt Cola and got spun.

It's a reference to the "It's over 9000!" line from Dragon Ball.

>a few years ago get on a kick of collecting retro ps1 rpgs
>get bored of it and trade most of them away
>now I only have Grandia, Lunar 2 box set, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Chrono Cross left

I still feel bad. I worked my ass off to get all of those Working Designs boxes when I was a kid.

His "joke" sucking isn't as much of an issue as taking everything at face value is. I'm pretty sure most people on the internet (on 4chan at least) understand that "over 9000" is synonymous with "a fuckton"
