They're the Genesis Unit, and the first three bosses you face in the final Wily Tower mode of Mega Man: The Wily Wars. They're similar to the Rockman / Mega Man Killers in that regard (Enker, Punk, Ballade)

Design-wise they are loosely based on Journey to the West. The Genesis Unit has data CDs in Rockman & Forte / Mega Man & Bass, so I'm pretty sure they're considered canonical.

From Rockman Megaworld / Mega Man:The Wily Wars. It includes a bonus game called "Wily Tower" with them in it. It's also criminally underrated and the thing that saves an otherwise lackluster job. Seriously, why isn't there an 8-bit demake yet? It's the most braindead obvious choice.

The best thing would be if a dedicated hacker produced a combined ROM of Rockman 1+2+3, and then crafted a replica of the Wily Tower mode to throw in there too.
I have no idea if NES ROMs have capacity for that much data, though.

Mega Man (U) is 128KB, Mega Man 2 (U) is 256KB, and Mega Man 3 (U) is 384KB, together for 768KB.
Kirby's Adventure is a 768KB ROM so I dare say it could be possible. A mapper can probably address that much non-program data, probably MMC3 or MMC5.

I think Puresabe would probably have what it takes to achieve such a hack, aside from famous stuff like Rockman 4 Minus Infinity and Rockman 7 EP, they've already done phenomenal stuff that sources all six Rockman Famicom ROMs to create mini-showcase hacks.

https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3801/
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4864/

Puresabe could probably do music conversion, too. Rockman 4 Minus Infinity features tracks from lots of different games beyond the NES and converts them to the Rockman 4 soundfont. Stuff like F-Zero X, Actraiser, Fire Emblem.

That's way more unfinished than I realised.

Hell, most players probably don't even know that game takes place in outer space, on other planets. There isn't a single mention of that in-game, just in the instruction manual.

There's an improvement patch simply called "Mega Man 3 Improvement" that appears to address some of the incomplete aspects and oversights, whilst also adding in a proper intro story pre-title screen akin to MM4.
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/992/
There appear to be addendum patches on top of this, but this one has been updated as recent as Feb 2022.

Found a mega, much appreciated!

What I've wanted to do for a long time is to get a best possible quality image of this picture, without the calendar obscuring parts of it.

The source of this particular image file appears to be https://kobun20.interordi.com/2012/12/02/yusuke-muratas-epic-rockman/ and acknowledges there are some visual issues like on Rockman's helmet, but also Yellow Devil's eye, Forte's elbow/Blues' shield, and Gamma's jaw. Those details are pretty easily fixed, but removing the calendar text that is overlapping characters like Bomb Man, Search Man, Neptune, Skull Man, and Pharaoh Man is the worst part.
The hope has been to use advanced AI methods like Lama Cleaner and Stable Diffusion img2img + textual inversion to try and regenerate the missing parts, together with manually redrawing missing parts based on reference material from the complete works, but part of me just hopes that an actual, good flawless high-res scan of the original piece exists online.

An example of trying to remove the calendar text.

Bomb Man was crudely redrawn by mouse in Photoshop and is not visually consistent with the rest of that part of the picture.
Search Man's helmet and Napalm Man's treads were crudely rendered by an earlier version of Lama Cleaner hosted on cleanup.pictures.

Resources available should be adequate to get the job done but it will take a lot of work. Once the image in >>9470634 has been adequately cleaned up, the goal is to upscale using a combination of SwinIR, RealESRGAN, Waifu2X and manual compositing in Photoshop to try and produce the best looking picture possible, retaining the material look of the original work and correcting the small assembly errors from the original.

>> No.9470662
File: 3.95 MB, 3492x2311, original - calendar removal WIP2.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]
9470662

Here is a WIP of the clean up, but it has obvious errors still not yet corrected.
>Rough Bomb Man
>Search Man's right helmet and elbow
>Napalm Man's treads
>Neptune's chin (should have a red chin spike)
>Parts surrounding Skull Man and Pharaoh Man
>Also Yellow Devil's right arm near Gospel's nose

Other touch-ups already made include the aforementioned Rockman helmet, Forte elbow, Yellow Devil Eye, Gamma Jaw, and also things like the outer framing.

I haven't worked on this in months though and want to finish it someday.
Lama Cleaner has helped a ton but it can't reconstruct missing details in artwork, but it's super helpful for the easily predictable details on the ground.
