I guess my favourite death, since it's the first one I thought of, is getting slapped into the camera in Crash 3.

4th wall gags like that weren't new or anything but that on in Crash 3 happens so fucking fast that's startling the first time you get it, and then you laugh at it.

Whether it's fun or not is highly subjective. The Immortal is probably one of the most brutally difficult games I've played. Unless you're using a guide you will die, a LOT. Finally figuring out a stage is very satisfying, but requires patience. The graphics, music, and dark atmosphere are some of the best you'll find on the Genesis/Mega Drive. Whoever decided to put that "barrel" stage in the game can kiss my ass, however.
