>cover scene / level is not in the game or can't be replicated
Post the worst offenders.
Yes, this is most likely Spiral Mountain on the cover but you're never there at night and the foliage looks different

Nigga, Mumbo's Hut and the monkey from Mumbo's Mountain are RIGHT THERE on the cover.

Okay and why is Gruntilda there?
Also it's not night in Mumbos Mountain.
Also Boggles in the tree? He's a character you see in Spiral Mountain.
A huge Grunty head is famously in Spiral Mountain, too.

It's not hard to understand the cover is conveying the light happy world (mumbo's mountain) contrastingly being overtaken by the darkness of Gruntilda and her minions. It is using artistic license to portray a basic yet eye catching summary of a large game in relatively small space. The boxart being a single random screenshot from the game wouldn't be a good idea.

Finally a thread like this. I think you might have discovered something zoomers can't relate to.
It always pissed me off how the AI racers in CTR bounce less when hit by a missile/rolling bomb while the player bounces like 5-6 times when hit, losing precious time. I used to try pressing buttons when that happened thinking there was some sort of trick to recovering faster from a hit.

Another N64 example:
There's no scene where what is portrayed on the cover actually happens. There are minecart levels but you never get to play as more than 1 Kong and you never see K.Rool in-game until the bossfight (which is not a minecart level) outside of cutscenes.
I understand the devs wanted to make a cool cover that is representative of the game and not 100% picture perfect (ie screenshots) but if a scene is shown on the cover, is it actually representative of the game or is that false advertising?

so as a kid in the 90s, how would you know what the game was about?
for all you knew it couldve been a racing game. The boxart would make you think the game is centered around minecarts when there are like 2 short minecart rides iirc.
Keep in mind we had no internet and while magazines did exist, most people didnt buy them.
So all a kid could go by was the boxart and maybe small screenshots on the back of the box itself.
In contrast to pic rel, that shows something entirely different from the actual game, the example in the OP shows something plausible that absolutely could be in the game but isn't.

>>9453260
and why not show them on DK Island or the treehouse in the start of the game or in the Angry Aztec level in the desert or in a boxing ring. Instead they specifically chose to depict a scene that simply isn't in the game. This amongst other examples misled kids and made them think things were possible / achievable in-game when they weren't at all.

samefagging zoomers really are unbearable. better stfu than shitting up my thread when you never experienced these games the way we did.

Another example:
The cover of Pokemon Colosseum depicts the legendary Kyogre and Groudon, pic rel. Not only can these Pokemon not legitimately be acquired in the game without trading from the mainline entries, but they also don't appear in the story whatsoever.

If you zoom zooms keep shitting up my thread, I'll simply abandon it. You're neither being crafty nor is the trolling intelligent. You're just getting in the way of a comfy thread.

Holy fucking autism, OP. Either you’re a bad troll or you’re fucking maniacal. Each aspect of a game’s cover is supposed to represent pieces of a game. Let’s start with Banjo:
>banjo and kazooie carrying a jinjo to safety and reaching for a jiggy
This represents the game’s collecting aspect
>mumbo, bottles, and chimpy to the side
characters you will meet and might help you on your adventure, who fucking knows, play the game to find out, retard
>giant, menacing grunty reaching for banjo
obviously the main antagonist, especially considering she’s fucking repulsive and has a look of bad intent
Now we’ll do >>9456279:
>wes in the back
that’s you, dumbass
>legendary beasts up front
you catch them in this game, they’re there to let people know these mons you can’t normally find in ruby and sapphire can be caught and eventually transferred to them
>kyogre and groudon to the sides
if you pay close attention, which I know is hard for a special needs student like (You) it kind of looks like they’re battling. It represents the fact that you can hook up Ruby and Sapphire to your Nintendo GameCube™ via the Game Boy Advance™ Link Cable™ (sold separately in case you didn’t read the box you slobbering pinhead). Now here’s an example of a game box with actual false advertising. This is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the PlayStation 2. Read the last bulletin under “FEATURES.”
>Interact with all your favorite characters, including Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Dobby™, and Gilderoy Lockhart™
>Dobby™
If you’ve played the game you’ll know he doesn’t exist in the game in any way, shape or form. Not even passively mentioned by any character. I also don’t really care and just assume he was cut early on and the marketing team just forgot about it. Fuck your thread and fuck you for being a mouth breathing nigger.

That's what zoomers are missing about that old generation of games. Graphics were just abstract representations of worlds, not literal 3d models that had to be exact. Back then the art styles would leave room for imagination, something zoomers lack
