Hey /vr/ I want to complete Super Metroid, so I'm wondering what's the best way to emulate it?

I don't own the game, although I do have it on Wii's VC, but I don't want to re download it.

I have retroarch, but I don't know how to use it. For other emulators, I usually learnt how to use it quickly, but I don't get RA one bit.

I heard that ZSNES is kind of outdated, but I know how to use that, so should I? Or is there a better alternative?

I wouldn't mind if they included Filters, I'd put them on just to see if it really does improve the look of the game, if not then I won't.

ZSNES worked perfectly fine for me when I last played it. Don't buy into the circlejerk of emulators vs emulators, they're just console wars. If it emulates the game and you're satisfied, it's fine.

I thought the same thing until I saw some comparison pic of ZSNES vs original hardware / accurate emulators. I don't have it on me at the moment, but some stuff was pretty off on ZSNES. The two main problems with ZSNES is graphical glitches, and sound inaccuracies (sounds being nothing like the original hardware at all, not even close)

According to http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Emulators
higan / retroarch with bsnes core should be the best emulators, as in most accurate ones.

I always had trouble with new emulators after being accustomed to older ones (for example going from epsxe to xebra, snes9x to zsnes back in 200X, etc) so the newcomer problems should be expected. But for example I tried xebra last week and Silent Hill looks a shitload better than on epsxe.

So the choice is up to OP, keep playing on ZSNES, or play a "superior" version but deal with the extra config and tech stuff.

oh and accuracy comes with a price, because you need a good pc in order to run bsnes / higan, and retroarch using the bsnes core should be the same.

If you're playing SMetroid on an old machine, ZSNES will do. I played Starfox full speed on a pentium3 (funny enough, Starfox has a huge glitch in zsnes, it runs at twice the speed it should)

Why not? You don't have to pay for it again. Just go to the Wii shop and it should be ready to download.

Spinning jump out of the water, should be enough to reach the ledge, then walljump

Nigga I'm giving recommendations, I haven't even tried BSNES yet, I stepped away from SNES emulation for a LONG while. And when I occassionally played games, I did in ZSNES actually. It's a great emu, just old and has glitches on many games. If you have a better alternative why not use it?

I'm downloading retroarch to check it out atm

snes9x 1.53
>emulates all sounds correctly
>updated
>great filters
>supports better displays
>does other things better but I'm not nerdy enough to name them all

You say that like it's a bad thing. It's only pro is rom hack emulation, and that in itself is bad considering the behavior hackers have toward other emus in comparison for building their hacks. They're just fucking lazy.
