This game is a underrated classic just like Castlevania III, and i'm tired of people pretending otherwise.

i cannot wait for that remade PC version to release. i'm surprised it's taking so long considering that vinesauce youtuber played through the entire game, how much polishing does it need?? gimme gimme gimme

Fuck this game. After replaying this game recently I reel like a piece of shit for ever suggesting this game was good. You can grind to trivialize all the bullshit (until dungeons 7 + 8 where you have all the required tools) or you can allow the game to fuck you in the ass. No thank you, game. You're just not that hot.

Ok. But you could have just asked to discuss the game without using meme statements.

As a sidescroller rpg I think it is rated pretty accurately by people that like those types of games. As a Zelda game it will always rate middle of road to low since it was so different from what Zelda would become and from what made people like the first game so much.

That said I play this game every year and wouldn't mind another entry in this style, but I prefer the top down style Zelda's more.

It is a classic. But it's not underrated, because that would imply it's not actually one of the best selling and well-received video games of all time. It's actually right where it belongs, unless you restrict the viewpoints you ask to a tiny slice of recent history, where you will find that many simply echo poorly-absorbed opinions about the game's difficulty or divergence from the standard Zelda formula that were foisted on them by a generation of "getting angry at video games" style Youtube reviewers.

In reality it is a fantastic game, one that continues to impress me to this day, and one I use as inspiration in my own works. It is one of the great examples of progression of difficulty and "teaching" the player its own mechanics without didactic tutorialism.

The things you're attacking this game for are concepts that are core foundational values to a wide variety of video games across many genres. It seems suspect to ask that this one among them be crucified for these design decisions you view as sins. If we were to follow your logic that would leave you with very, very few titles to enjoy, to the point it might inspire one to ask if you, indeed, even do enjoy video games at all.

Is this game even really underrated in 2022? The reception for it now seems extremely positive.

It's the cycle of contrarianism; it will be overrated again soon enough.
