It would lead to the TV tilting and falling sideways, which would make the still bad situation a bit better since the full impact would no longer work on his head but only partly and partly bounce off to the side.
Still, skull fracture and broken nose and jaw is likely, depending on how it hits.
He would survive bit would be PAINFUL.

For 4th gen I recommend Shining Firce CD on, well,the Sega CD
5th gen do try out Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Xenogears, Grandia, Suikoden 1 and 2 on the Playstation.
