I'll post some of the games that have the best PS2 graphics in my opinion

I'll start with ObsCure I and II. First time I saw these games I couldn't believe they were running on a PS2, and I still don't know why they are never remembered. Not great games, but the graphics, oh shit...

I don't see these given enough credit, and apart from 1 I can't really see why. I think it's a literacy problem, people don't know the library well enough

Transformers (Armada) - huge levels with a really well done LOD set up, details transition smoothly, foliage feels 3D and not "speedtree" dense, packed environments with great lighting (god rays) tons of particle effects, physics (enemies get thrown into each other, real satisfying), excellent texture work full of details like specular maps, excellent animations and runs at 30FPS. If you see someone shitposting about the new pokemon on /v/ mentioning this game it's me lol

Valkyrie Profile 2 - 60fps, 1080i(540p) super detailed environments, although gameplay in them is 2D the cutscenes which are realtime and cut all over the scene show the environments are fully rendered. Characters also look great and field action is super fluid.

Cold Fear - Identical to the Xbox version (maybe better in some ways? I haven't compared.) with dynamic lighting and shadows, nicely detailed environments with shit tons of particles (look at the waves outside the ship - so cool) and makes good use of the PS2's ability to spew particle effects.

Ghosthunter - I kinda struggle to include this because many parts can look real ugly but then some scenes and details look incredible. Doesn't seem to be a popular game but it is really really fun, the distortion, model details, it's all really great stuff with a ton of care put into it and the character animations are excellent.

Death by Degrees - weird ass game but kinda fun, feels like a resident evil style adventure - nothing super stand out but the environments look really nice, detailed and clean. I wonder if it does some kind of antialiasing or downscaling because the details are really nice. Also good boob physics and lots of fully rendered and textured nipples. Nice. I wouldn't say its one of the best but there's a real appeal to the way it looks.

But it has a lot more attention to detail than gta if you stop and look for it. IGN game it a dumb review because they misunderstood the healing mechanics. I don't think SH3 has that many problems. It definitely feels compromised in a few areas but overall I think it plays the best of the series and has the best balance.

While I think SH3 has aged especially good SH2 looks great too. The only asoect that I really think looks a bit aged are character faces but that's just whatever. Weirdly I find SH4 to look the worst. I find environments to really range in quality. Henry's room fkr instance has a lot of low quality textures and assets for being your main hub.

SH3 just has the worst plotting and pacing out of the original trilogy to me. I do wonder if the team fell apart a bit during creation and the game was eventually released in a semi-finished state.
If that makes sense. It's still a wonderful game though. I wish it had more actual Silent Hill though, those moments of wandering the town in 1 and 2 really set the stage for the rest of the game. I would agree that the fighting in it is the best of the series, while the first two stop having almost any difficulty once you get the steel pipe.
