Why in God's name did Nintendo think not including end labels on the N64 cartridges was a good idea?

>> No.942320

>>942308
I had this conversation with myself yesterday while trying to sort my games.

I think the N64's charm is in it's overall terrible design choices

didnt want to go over the budget

Jaguar games didn't have end labels either. Just saiyan.

>> No.943592

hey at least you yanks got end labels on your snes carts, i might just addsome of my own for convenience

>> No.943605

Japanese Nintendo cartridges have never had end labels. Us not getting end labels on N64 games was just a result of America and Europe using the Japanese cartridge design.

>> No.943608

I'v never gotten this fuss over not having end labels on cartridges. Why would you throw the boxes away? Or why wouldn't you take care of the boxes?

>> No.943614

Because the N64 was a big "fuck you" to gamers and developers.

Even so, how lazy can you be. Just flip the damn game around.

You think the lack of end labels on Nintendo 64 games is bad... Somebody explain to me why Astal for the Sega Saturn doesn't have it's name on the binding of the case? It says Sega Saturn, and it has the logo and game number, but the damn title isn't there!

>not my photo, nabbed from google images, but GUESS WHICH FUCKING GAME IS ASTAL.

X zone is like that for snes. Just a blank top label

Ever hear of used games? Also some games don't come with a box (e.g. Super Mario World as a pack-in) and others come in unwieldy boxes that make things not line-up on your shelf (e.g. Lethal Enforcers, Mario Paint). Finally have you considered some of us keep our boxes, but don't store our game in them? I don't like constantly and opening the flaps and wearing them out just because I play some games quite often.

Yeah, how lazy must you be to not want to take every single one of your 200+ cartridges off the shelf just to find the one you're looking for.

>> No.943807

They could have just made the label longer and wrapped it around the top like NES games.

Because the games were so fucking expensive you'd own less than 5 and keep them in a bulletproof glass display case.

There are around 300 N64 games, the N64 has collectors.
Does the thought of people collecting games shock you?

Stop shit posting on /vr/, kid.

There's barely 100 games worth owning on the console, collection or not.

Here is a tip: Take a piece of paper, write the name of the game on it and use a piece of tape to stick it to the game. There, you can now browse your collection easily.

Or you can make your own little paper boxes and write the title of those if you don't want to get tapeglue on the cart.

Sure you have to put in some work, but if you have hundreds of carts you should be taking your collecting seriously enough to warrant solving the lack of side-label

>> No.943895

>>943878

Which is a solution to the (minor) issue. >>943709 was literally saying that there was no issue in the first place.

>> No.943910

I always liked those plastic cases you could buy that let you fold up the box to use as labels, given the boxes were destroyed but I didn't care about collector value back then. Although I did kind of care because you got more money for them at the used game stores with boxes and manuals when you traded them in for new games.

>> No.943972

>>943860
the n64 had a really low game count.
Theres only like 150 games for it in existence.
Most of the games for it not made by nintendo or its 2nd parties (rare for instance) sucked

sony had taken most of the 3rd party developers

There is no need. It's the only game I have for Saturn that looks like that. My beef is that, when the sheet was going through the printer to be printed anyway, why would they exclude the game's title?

>> No.944061

>>943972
I'm an n64 collector, and you're flat-out wrong. By my count it's 385, of which I own 122.

>>943878
I do this with thin asking tape. It works ok, just have Goo-Gone handy.

Not having end labels is a little annoying, but there's always a workaround. It's also true that a great deal of the games suck, (looking at you, Fox College Hoops) but I believe the system does have a certain charm to it.

>> No.944490

>>943895
I just wasn't rich enough as a kid to have over say, 9 or 10 N64 games where I had to even consider throwing the boxes away to save space in my room.

I guess I wasn't thinking about serious collectors today who have as many games as you do.

>> No.944517

Because it got misprinted and never got reprinted.
