Don't listen to this faggot. You're about to play the most kino game of all time. Just rub the lamp and fight Diabolos as soon as you can, level his shit up, and you can walk through the game with no random encounters if that's your flavor.

ive been having a blast playing ff9, about to hit disc 4, idk what you mean about getting bored from grinding for abillites. The game is pretty ez and you get a ton of ap just by doing the main storyline and the friendly monsters sidequest.

Also FF9>FF8 100%

I love FF8 but it also has grinding. You just have multiple two choices for grinding (or three, but one just doesn't work)
You can choose from drawing magic and playing cards. Drawing magic is tedious and if you focus on that you'll probably quit the game, the card game is far more enjoyable. But unless you want to minmax, which I wouldn't recommend for a first run, you really can have some freedom in how to play, since the game is not that hard besides some fights at the end of the game, just don't go around leveling up your characters without making any progress in your items and magic, or you'll eventually hit a wall and the game will become almost impossible to beat.

WRONG.
Get Diablo’s mug ability and be drowned in items that can be refined into magic. Enemies can also be turned into cards, and occasionally drop cards upon defeat. Most bosses drop cards that refine into absurdly over powered items as well. Furthermore there are draw points all over the world that regenerate over time.
Only your crippling autism/adhd is forcing you to immediately try to get 100 of each spell, the game isn’t.
That being said OP, bosses sometimes have GFs (skill teaching summons that are invaluable) that can be drawn from them. Just check bosses for ???? draw slots, and grab them if you don’t have them. It’s a 1 time draw, non of this ‘draw for fifteen minutes’ shit morons like to perpetuate.

>> No.9419225

>>9419198
You don't unlock spells in F8. You stack them then junction to whatever attributes. Plus magic levels up with you like thunder - thundara - thundaga.

Card modding and item gathering allow you to load up pretty early on, including higher-level magic otherwise not accessible at lower levels.

dont think that the game having 4 discs is a bad thing, the main reason why it's 4 discs is because of all the memory the fmv's take up, however they're the best in the FF series and it was a real treat seeing them for the first time. Also besides that the game is just quite large given on how long the story goes on for. But that it isnt a bad thing, it really is 4 discs of pure soul, and as someone who has played FF1, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, I can say without a doubt that FF9 is my favoritre and I haven't even finished it yet!

I mean the main thing FF7 has over FF9 is the sci-fi theme, the materia system, and a stronger antagonist.

However I enjoy the Ap ability system in FF9 more and FF9's chocobo questline isnt NEARLY as cancerous as the one in FF7 ( chocobo racing isnt fun at all -_- )

You don't have to grind at all
Just make sure your GFs learn the "MAG-RF" abilities and you can turn the items you get from enemies into magic
Maybe spend 1 turn using draw every couple of fights if you really want to

And you should be playing Triple Triad anyway. Not as a grind but for fun. It's the best part of the game.

well what i meant was

the materia system is unique and interesting, although some may find lvling materia too be tedious.

However in hindsight now that i think about it , im glad the materia system never came back, so i guess it's not that good

regarding sephiroth, didn't you find any of his backstory too be interesting? also i feel like the rivalry between cloud and sephiroth is stronger than the one between zidane and kuja.

and just because sephiroth has longer hair than the average male doesnt make him look transgender lol

So I am one of those people who really turned around with 8. I think my recent love of the SaGa games has made me more accepting of the changes. I do think it's not without issues though, to basically get where you don't need to Draw anymore does require a fair bit of AP grinding certain enemy mobs so you can level up GF abilities. Also scarcity of certain spells just means you need to spend maybe more time than you'd like casting Draw on a boss.
That said I think it's a good game, it's not the best of the PS1 trilogy but it kind of ranks in a decent spot for me. I also like how believable Squall is as a main character. How he's this no nonsense by the books type soldier who wants to focus on his developement, while being surrounded by people who want to do nothing but goof off.

>to basically get where you don't need to Draw anymore does require a fair bit of AP grinding certain enemy mobs so you can level up GF abilities
Just prioritize learning Card/Card Mod. Even just playing normally you'll learn them by the end of Dollet. The real 'grind' is playing cards, but that's actually pretty enjoyable.

I got to the last boss of FF8 and just couldn't do enough damage and keep myself alive long enough, even after bringing 99 Hero items to be invulnerable and just wail on her.
You need meta knowledge to play/beat this game, you can't just enjoy it.
You need to take tests at the start so you get more money which require game knowledge. You have to know about the card game or drawing. Yes the game tells you but the DEGREE you need it isn't told.
I just wanna chill and level up. This game's biggest problem is monsters leveling with you. Half of an RPG is the encounters and in this game it hurts you.
I like this game, but god damn. I played it blind as a young man and almost beat it but I didn't know half the stuff that's available nowadays...but you need to know it to win. I don't want to read a guide, I just wanna play the game. Reeeee.

The Card/Card Mod thing also still requires a bit of fighting, and getting the Refine abilities for GF's takes some time as I said, but holy shit I agree with you. Triple Triad is the best minigame made in a FF game. I just wish Tetra Master didn't involve a insane manual and explanation to truly understand. I felt like I did once but it's long gone.
