hyperkin retron1. it works well. sound is, well, different (but not in a bad way). one common complaint is that (when playing SMB) mario has a white outline around him and the game has a slight buzz in the audio. turns out the stock a/v cable is just shit, cause it does the same on my toatser nes. i'm sure it would sound and look good with a better cable on a CRT. Price was less than $20 shipped.

I have a Gen Nex and a Retron Triple. They both suck dick compared to an AV Famicom but the Gen Nex IS pretty small, front loading and has a wireless controller option. I might be able to see someone that wants to fit a NES in a very tight space like a car using it and maybe someone who has a bunch of carts but no consoles MIGHT want to use a Retron if budget is limited but really in both those cases an emulator would be just as good in a few ways and better in the rest.

Now real famiclones from back in the day like Dendy and the lot are another story. They're super cool!

My complaint about the Retron is more with its build quality. The NES slot never worked from the beginning and it's generally pretty plasticky. Sounds are also quite tinny.

Well that's something I can worry about. Think of it this way, you aren't going to man handle an actual NES, so why would you do the same to the Retron? The plastic is considerably of lower quality, but it doesn't feel as though I could break it unless I tried to. Also, the audio output level is about the same as my NES.

On the console inside a little plastic case with cellophane is all that's included. However, you can always ask the seller if they can send you the box that it came in, free of charge. They're also in a variety of colors.

The Famulator on the other hand is pricey, and the shipping from Japan is what kills it. Loose they want $56.50 total, while a boxed one will run you $73.

I own original NES and SNES systems myself, always been curious about how famicoles performed though. From the sounds of things, not so well.

>> No.932823

>>932765
They really vary. Old Famiclones were piece by piece clones, so they played pretty much everything you threw at them with no problem. Noticeable problems include swapped duty cycles (meaning the sound is more "bloopy") and the colors might be off.

Most newer ones are NES on a Chip technology, which allows some to be obscenely small. These usually have the poorest performance, and refuse to play MMC5 games. Some of these are literal NES clones, so because of that, they won't play the Famicom's expanded audio.

Supposedly, running Rad Racer 2 on them will cause them to short out and burn, because this is the only game that pulls CIRAM from the NES. However, the chip in RR2 is supposed to block the NES' signal from interfering with it, as it has it's own CIRAM thing, but clones don't know what to do.

I haven't had any luck finding NOACs by themselves, but you can always rip em out of Famiclones. Also, i found the Atari Flashback 1 is actually NOAC based!

If you know of good places to purchase semiconductors, ICs, microprocessors, and whatnot, try searching for the Novatek NT6578 or the Sino Wealth SH6578.

They're 82-pin quad flat packages.
Fabricated in China as "education computer modules."

I've yet to find a single famiclone with passable sound quality. I really wish the generation NEX would've been good, it looks so nice.

Absolutely right is more like it. And yes, disgusting.

Then get NES.emu for Android. It's actually more accurate than a shityclone and way cheaper.

But does it acually play the music properly?

Mine ran every cart fine, but the the sound on games with special chips was way too low. You couldn't even hear the sound effects on Youkai Douchuuki.

>But does it acually play the music properly?
Nope sounds are a bit off, it doesn't even support the expanded sounds from famicom games. It also has jailbars. It does have a very high compatibility with most games though

You can get a Wii for a few bucks more that does all of that but better in every way.

Wii which is $100+ is quite a bit more expensive than a famiclone which is $15-40. Also you have to bring the sensor bar with you and carry around the controllers that are $40 a piece and perhaps buy a classic controller which is even more cost and dead weight.

>Then get NES.emu for Android.
This works too but it sucks for multiplayer games since there's one controller normally and the screen is very small. Touch controls are awful for most kinds of games also.

Fuck yeah, Animal Attack Gakuen.

That game pulls Space Harrier better than Space Harrier's Famicom port did. And it has schoolgirls with guns.

Holy shit, you're right.
I just fired this up on an emulator, its pretty damn cool.

It rivals both the Famicom and Master System versions of Space Harrier.

Not as detailed as 3D WorldRunner, but that was more of a platformer on a Mode 7-esque plane than a Space Harrier clone

Is there a point to asking a rhetorical question before asserting its answer when starting a thread, aside from "doing things the 4chan way?"

Wiis can be found used for like $50-60 nowadays, especially with the Wii mini. Plus the classic controller is infinitely superior to any shit tier famiclone controller.

the wii mini hasn't been modded yet, it lacks an SD card slot so all current methods are useless
