Kids went Wild for Woody, at the time.

>> No.9406573

Wild Woody is one of those failed 90's mascots that definitely deserved to take off

He's a crazy talking pencil with attitude, how the hell do you fuck that up?

The gameplay concept is kind of cool. Being able to create and erase objects is an idea that has appeared in other games. But everything else about Wild Woody is not amazing. I think it would have more camp/ironic factor if it was actually good, but it isn't.

It still has better games than the Saturn. Reminder that Japan never got the SEGA CD versions of Snatcher, Lords of Thunder, The Space Adventure, or The Terminator.

>Snatcher, Lords of Thunder, The Space Adventure
Those were all on PC Engine though. Snatcher has some extra stuff though, if you're willing to tolerate the mid-tier English voice acting.

Dungeon Explorer on the Sega CD was a completely different game though, and has no Japanese Mega CD equivalent.

>> No.9409082

>>9409060
The sega cd is certainly great and underappreciated. But it doesn't have nearly enough good shoot 'em ups, arcade ports, or fighting games to really surpass the saturn.

Do home consoles really need arcade ports, though? The same thing that made Saturn a huge success in Japan is what kind of killed it in the west. It's an interesting thing to think about. Probably a mix of both like what the PS1 had would've been a lot better

They're a good way to kickstart a console. Worked for the Genesis and the Dreamcast.
It could've worked for the Saturn if they leveraged some of the great 3D talent they had with Yu Suzuki at AM2 (at the console development stage) but Sato didn't care.

On April 27, 1995 Sega of America wanted it's employees to bring their daughters to work.
They advertised this to the public, and utilized a strange circled symbol on the banners.
