Is this game worth playing if you've already played the remastered version? I heard it's tedious as hell.

I didn't get to play the original when it came out so I was wondering the same thing. I loved the remake and then I played the second one which is still very enjoyable. I don't know about the third one. I heard it wasn't as good as the first two. I might try it someday

I was born 1998 so no I'm not a zoomer, the first resident evil game I played was the fourth game when I was like 10 or something, after that I moved onto all the other games that came afterwards. Didn't start playing the older ones until a few years ago, as far as the older games are concerned, the only I've beaten is the third one, still haven't played the second or original version of the first game.

the game's only especially tedious playing as chris with only six inventory slots. It's very easy to end up triggering the semi bad ending where you have a dead partner. In comparison to remake though it lacks a feq QOL features and the presentation polish it is actually arguably more approachable. Movement is significantly more snappy and you don't have to worry about crimson heads, kill away without care.

I see you are indeed a zoomer, no problem, try to play the game, if you concentrate on the gameplay and not so much on the graphics you will have fun I suppose. You said youve beaten re3 so it should be no problem to beat the original.

You are the definition of zoomer. You almost as close to Gen Alpha as you are to being a Millennial.
The game is great, you should have played it before the remake as you’d enjoy the remake more. Still worth playing if you have an adult attention span. It’s “tedious” in a good way because it has real stakes and challenge, and if you get careless you get punished

>> No.9403745

>>9403569
I assume you mean the remake. Actually no, the remake has some extra bits of tedium on its own (crimson heads) and RE1 is the easiest of the RE games in terms of enemy durability, and is far easier than its remake. It holds up pretty well, even if you've played the remake it's worth playing it to see how the series started, and you'll appreciate some subtle references that were sprinkled through it.

The best versions of original RE are either a patched PC version or the DS version, if you can't do either of those, go for the Director's Cut version. The dual-shock edition of DE has a different (and fairly controversial) soundtrack so keep that in mind.

Eh, I am approaching forties and my attention span is very short. The reason why I hate modern sonycore with endless unskippable cutscenes and one of the reaaons why I prefer /vr/. But classic RE trilogy is not tedious at all, especially if you get into that ps1 early 3d vibe and enjoy the atmosphere.

>Is this game worth playing if you've already played the remastered version?
Yes, I enjoy them both equally and they compliment each other nicely
>I heard it's tedious as hell.
Only if you're a fucking idiot. Plenty of survival horror games are genuinely tedious or aggravating but the original RE trilogy is very enjoyable. There's a reason people love to endlessly replay them, they have great pacing and gameplay.

I like the PC version with the Classic REbirth patch or the original, non Dualshock Director's Cut for PS1. The famous "shitty" soundtrack is only in the Dualshock re-release of the Director's Cut.

I recently played it just before Halloween, after having played REmake a couple years prior. It's a great game and different enough to stand on its own, but you have to be willing to accept its limitations and quirks by reminding yourself that it was the first one sometimes. It creates tension well, but doesn't lean as much into outright horror as the remake in my opinion. The survival elements feel like they're more of the focus in this one.

Outside of not being able to immediately tell character HP like RE2/3’s animations, the original RE1 is far less tedious than the remake. The mansion isn’t as big and you don’t want to worry about shit like Crimson Heads.
It’s not like you can say the combat is “slow” like Alone in the Dark, if you could beat the Remake you can easily revisit the original since they practically play identically.

capcom themselves have treated remake as a replacement. they were severely embarrassed by the voice acting in the original when they found out how it came across to american audiences. probably also has something to do with remake being easier to get ahold of for dummies/lazies so they cope by ignoring the original.
