I tried that too. After the second unit had the issue I assumed it must be user error as well, so I played a bunch of SF2 and MMX (ie: games that would force me to use the right button a lot) and there was no difference after several days. I then tried my friends Deck out expecting to find his buttons to be the same, but come to find that his d-pad not only worked, but his diagonal buttons (which are a common complaint) worked pretty good as well. I then went under the assumption that he may be the odd one out, so I talked with various people online about the issue and came to find that barely anyone had it. That’s when I sent the video of the issue to steam and asked if this could just be the way they are made, and they said that wasn’t the case and I should send it in.

So basically, either I had just the worst kind of luck with the Steam Deck and got two defective units back to back with the same issue, or like I said, there may be a slightly defective batch of them.

>> No.9407786

>>9405838
Wow you're super special to be the only one who found this defect on more than one device, couldn't just be you. No way it could just be you, not possible.

Why are some people like this that they can find minor autistic issues in everything they buy so they end up shitting on everything? BTW I know you are posting in the other thread with the video attached, I still don't buy that it couldn't be a software thing that it isn't making a noise 100 percent when you press it. How can you rule that out and know that it is hardware?

>> No.9407860

>>9407786
Right, I thought this was going to be the portable gaming thread for a moment and didn’t see the other one.

That’s what I was trying to figure out with support. In games like Mega Man or Sonic there’d be times where the input would just drop, so I used the sound that’s on the steam deck menu to sort of show how much it dropped, and pressed each side rapidly so you’d really get an idea of the drops in comparison. There was like, a dead zone on the right d-pad where if you pressed it there with anything but a “hard” press it would just not register the input. Also, go back and reread my posts. At no point am I shitting on it. If anything I’m kinda jealous of my friend for getting a working unit and just lamenting that somehow I got a “defective (?)” unit twice. I know the comments section in the second video I posted in that thread have people having similar issues as well, so who knows.

Maybe you are onto something, but I still don't 100 percent think that unless you use a controller test utility you will see for certain whether it is not just a quirk of the software. I tried it and mine doesn't do that either.

I didn't mean to say you were shitting on it really, but some people do. If you got one a third time and had the issue AGAIN I'd say there is nothing to satisfy you desu kek. Some people are like that (aka people who buy 4 monitors because they autistically look for dead pixels).

If you mean the calibration thing in the settings, I tried that before I sent it in the second time.

And I’m not surprised. I talked with several people online about it trying to see if they could replicate my issue and nobody could so I highly doubt it’s a widespread problem.

you’d be surprised. I test my handhelds pretty thoroughly when I get them as I want to weed out any issues as I plan on keeping them in good shape long term. My vita, for instance, has a similar issue as my Steam Deck but on the “L Button”. I looked it up, and come to find out that it’s a very common issue that can be fixed by tightening some screws, but because very few old vidya uses the left bumper, I decided it wasn’t really worth pursuing the fix or really ever bringing up. The problem in the Steam Deck’s case was that having inconsistent, unreliable movement in demanding retro games was a killer and would actually affect my gameplay negatively more than once, thus all the stink thrown over one button on the d-pad. If it was any other button or just the issue with diagonal inputs, I’d have ignored it. Like I said above though, going right is pretty important in old games.

Oh, and I appreciate you trying to recreate the issue with yours too and letting me know.

you know even Taki Yudon said he had problems with the first deck he bought and cautioned people from buying them from third parties unless they can thoroughly test them out first. he said this in his last video where he says the deck is his favorite portable. is he lying too?

I cant believe there are still have faggots like you around.
"the 360 doesnt have an over heating problem. YOU must have stuck it in a cramped entertainment center with no airflow"

"theres nothing wrong with the switch analog sticks, YOU must have stepped on yours to make them drift"

"the ps5 doesnt fall off the stand if you look at it too fast, YOU must not have put it on right"

Why would you buy a deck from third parties?

Consoles can have flaws but stating a flaw that nobody else commonly talks about (like the ones you mentioned except maybe the Ps5 one, does the console stand affect your ability to play games) is what I am referring to. This is similar to how some consider xbox controller layouts literally unplayable or something. Just nitpicking. The dpad above actually does sound unplayable though like the switch dpad basically is (another known issue nobody defends).

There's being apple fruit toy cult fanatical "you're holding the phone wrong" and "headphone jack removal is brave" and calling out an issue that sounds like nitpicking.

My steam deck has a start and b button that stick a bit, is it annoying? A little, did I let it stop me from playing it and have to get several returns for a fix? No. The buttons sticking are also reasonably well known for the steam deck to be an issue but I rarely send people sending them back for it.

Just had a thought, I think what I’m going to try and do is find the “dead spot” on the d-pad and just press it rapidly for a day or two. When I think about how I tried to break it in, I was always doing so playing games so my thumb would move off that dead spot from time to time and potentially the next time I pressed it, it would be on a different spot. Maybe just hitting that spot for a couple hours will do the trick. I’ll update as it may be a fix for others who have the issue too.

>rapid pressing a single spot on a button for 40 minutes

Feels like I’m playing the Drakengard ending again.
