It's the biggest unanswered question of Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross's answer was extremely retarded.

No. He sets out to search for her in the ending of Trigger, but Cross just kinda forgets about him. He's never even mentioned again in a story that's supposedly all about the one goal in his life.

>Must there always be a dilemma or a permanent sacrifice?
No, of course not, but it would be nice if a pivotal plot point like bringing the fucking MC back from death had as much weight as the side characters' matters. It feels like work to me, or something from the 90s rumor mill. Beat this hidden fetch quest to revive Aeris.

Chrono Trigger is great but you really can tell that a lot was left on the cutting room floor. The North Palace being very conspicuous in multiple eras only to turn out to be a random treasure. Ironic considering that Kid was meant to be a clone of Schala and looks abso-fucking-lutely nothing like her.

A reminder that the plot of Cross is literally the result of Kato getting writer's block when he was writing a completely unrelated story about a mansion heist and he decided 90 percent of the way in that it was somehow the sequel to Chrono Trigger. He's that much of a hack.
It would be like if you were reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, but then in the last ten percent of the book, Scrooge reveals that he used to go by the moniker of "The Artful Dodger" and he changed his name or something.

Nope. People reject it because it's so godawful, but it's a real sequel. Picrel is the ghosts of Chrono, Marle and Lucca (inexplicably as kids), giving to you the last minute infodump that explains how they fucked up everything, Lavos absorbed Schala and is back stronger than ever and you have to fix their mistakes. This happens literally five minutes before the game ends, right before you go kill Lavos 1.5: Now with a Schala hat (inexplicably as a blonde loli)

The game STARTS out like that. The game being a sequel to Trigger is treated like the big plot reveal near the end... even though it's in the damn title. I think it's a great game, but the decisions Square made in regards to it as a sequel to Trigger are downright bizarre.

The best twist would've been if the game tried to trick the player into believing that it's somehow tied into Trigger and it's all about Lavos until the final big twist revealed that it in fact isn't Lavos at all, but another member of the space parasite race that Lavos is from on another planet entirely that had influenced evolution in a similar manner to that of what the first Lavos was implied to have done.

>> No.9378993

The story and gameplay are both flawed but the gameplay is weaker. It's merely pleasant, and the system doesn't utilize anything close to its potential despite being superficially interesting. The story on the other hand carries the day. No one would be talking about it if it didn't have one of the most personal and emotional stories in the genre. That's what elevates it to the level of a masterpiece despite its flaws.
People even screencap conversations from the game to commemorate how good it is, and to this day have debates over the implications on the lore.

Of course it's not. Nobody involved deserves a good ending. Trigger is nothing but a violent self-righteous rampage across time. For what? Look at this dystopian hellscape, cramped cities under domes, presumably because the atmosphere is so polluted it's unbreathable. Nearly every structure is surrounded by desert. Disgusting concrete highways scar the landscape. Crono and his goons murder the true heirs of the planet, the reptites - who would go on to evolve in tune with nature, ushering an utopia, if only the savages wouldn't have interfered. Mere death was not punishment enough.

It would've been crappy not because it's a downer but because why would anyone think a younger, less experienced Crono would retain the experiences and strength of the older one? Endings just need to make sense. Happy or bad endings just for the sake are terrible.

The problem is that you often see this issue with happy endings. Too many happy endings are contrived to placate the audience that couldn't handle otherwise. Of course, you have people who try too hard to contrive a bad ending as well where everything goes wrong to seem "mature", which is cringe too.
