The thing with Tifa and Aeris is that they are role reversals of what they appear to be. Aeris appears to be the "generic white mage shrine maiden girl" but as far as personality Tifa fit that far better. Aeris was more that outgoing and somewhat presumptuous yet big sisterly girl, or something like that.
