I should probably get to it one of these days

4-1? You haven't BEGUN to know fear just yet. That doesn't exactly help you, but it's true. The only thing that helps is practice, practice, practice.

I got the Bowser special which proceeded to kick my ass.

Well, all that multiplayer practice should help make single player much easier.

That's probably supposed to happen, since it's a massive difficulty spike that the game just throws at you with no warning whatsoever. To this day, I have massive problems with the Stage Clear specials in Pokemon Puzzle League because they're just that damn fast.

Not sure how the final stage compares to the Special, but I think it's worse.

because it's still perfectly doable even on s-hard unless you are severely physically or mentally impaired. it is beyond me how you can get stuck in a regular stage on tetris attack.

Oh god, my favourite SNES game of all time! Oh the hours and hours I spent on that game.
The Bowser level of clear-mode is so much fun and so challenging

>> No.936052

if i remember correctly, the strongest weapon in tetris attack is to use chains. keep making chains, destroy garbage blocks and form the top so it chains to the next, and so forth. i played multiplayer so much that the round doesn't end until literally the entire screen is filled at once with a giant garbage block that you can't do anything about because you have no more blocks to work with, and you wait for the ~10s lag to end before you finally lose.

Tetris Attack is all about chains. Chains here, chains there, chains followed by chains and more chains on top. Combos aren't nearly as strong. The computer players have the huge disadvantage of when such blocks are destroyed standing still until the process is finished. iirc this was corrected in Pokemon puzzle league which reused the Panel de Pon rules a third time

>> No.936537

I'm still practicing my chains. I can get 2-3 chains consistently, sometimes 4, 5-6 when I'm lucky and fast enough.

>> No.937756

i just.. i just don't get how to do the chains ;_;

>> No.938305

Practice and prescanning the stack to quickly plan which blocks have to be moved and when. Knowing your max speed with which you can move a block, the higher this is the more possibilities for chains you get...

is there a guide? What patterns to look for, how to react?
I watched all the 'how to improve'-parts but they show situations that never appear in real game.

Go into marathon mode at the slowest setting and practice doing vertical and horizontal combos. Then work on moving other blocks as the combos start to go off. This guy offers a series of useful videos on how to practice:

The most often happening types are: The pre- falling completion, in which you clear three blockswith more blocks over them and then before these blocks fall down quickly push a fitting into the gap. whenever a vertical empty line will appear, look for blocks to quickly insert. Experts wait for the blocks to fall down and then in the exact moment they touch the stack swap, this makes the game falsely think a chain has been formed.

The sliding completion, in this a horizontal gap is created and left or right of that there are two blocks of the same color on the side and you quickly slide the missing third block over them while the row is cleared. When ever there are two identical blocks horizontal adjacent besides a clearable line of other blocks look for a fitting third block in the row above.

Quick reactions are needed for good chain forming, train your reactions
