it worked pretty well locally. playing with japanese players was garbage and most of the players online near the tail end of its life were japanese.

outside of that its the normal doa 2 but with forward medium kick counter holds
its worth mentioning the japanese version of ps2 doa 2 hardcore has an exclusive turbo mode

doa 1 is just the saturn version in higher resolution. very barebones and a strange version to port without adding any extras

Ultimate 2 came out after 3 and has less characters, so they had experience with the hardware. 4 was new hardware. Never played Dimensions, but it was a handheld version of 1-3, right? There's your answer. Hell, 3 needed to booster pack just to have like, 3 costumes per character instead of 2. Also, technically 3 has more costumes than you think it does since color changes aren't separate costumes like they are in every other game.
