That's around the time I stopped playing games as I was entering into my teenage years and became more interested in music and girls.
I still bought a Gamecube when it came out in 2001 and played lots of Melee with friends, and a friend lent me a PS2 to play some stuf like Devil May Cry and SH2.
Sometimes I'd plug in my old SNES or Genesis to play some 16 bit goodness every now and then but it wasn't until 2009 that I became interested in video games again.

MvC2 and CvS on Dreamcast. Grandia 2 came out at the end of that year, I played that.
I might have started to get into Diablo 2 by then, I know I missed it by a few months.
Definitely got on Chrono Cross when it came out.
I was definitely playing stuff on emulator too. I was playing a lot of fucking games.

Around this time I really started paying attention to the internet, so I mostly dicked around looking at various websites. That was a real adventure!

As for games, I had my PC (no internet) so I was playing worms 2, c&c, quake 2, and then I borrowed Fallout 2 from my friend in a school. Boy that changed my world.

I recall also trying to make stuff on my PC, like animations in PowerPoint 97. Dad got me Visual Basic 5 *very legally* and I remember mocking up some interfaces without any real understanding of what I was doing. Fun times.

I don't know if I ever did, I never liked Linkin Park. I liked Alice In Chain's Dirt album a lot, which was whiny as fuck, but these days I more appreciate the mopey subject matters of that album because I've long since STOPPED feeling like that, so it's more like "That sure is miserable and I feel bad for you, but I'm real glad I'm not like that anymore." (though I still love the vocals, lyrics, instrumentals, etc).

Sure, but that's also interesting for how fucked he is, broken people can be interesting, if they're reasonably talented. I was riding out the last few N64 games like perfect dark and majora's mask and Goemon's Great Adventure (rental), trading time with the PS1 in titles like THPS2, I had discovered Threads of Fate and Tail Concerto and picked up mega man x5. PS1 was definitely getting tons of attention, Legends 2, Tron Bonne, really while the N64 was obviously winding down and PS2 was out and about as well as Dreamcast it seemed like the PS1 was ready to go forever. Still my older brother had a Dreamcast and I played my share of The House of the Dead 2, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure and tried Penpen Tricelon but I could never get into it. We would get a PS2 the following year.

Summer 2000, I remember a game store I used to go to a lot had a DC kiosk in the corner with either MvC2 or Soul Calibur and it was always busy with a big crowd. Fun times.

2000 was such a good year for PC gaming that it makes the rest of the decade look like the dark ages. So many legendary studios bought out and killed, and the whole industry made a hard shift to consoles. it didn't feel so bad though since there were so many mods and communities based around the games we already had.

I just remembered I played FF8 but I only had disc 1 & 2. I grinded in disc 1 and when I got to disc 2 I couldn't beat a part because I was too high leveled. I got to something like level 42 or some shit by disc 2. I didn't know that the game scaled with squall.

In 2000 I became a high school freshman. We had a half decent office PC at home, a NES and a gameboy pocket. That was it.

On the PC I played tons of Half-Life and mods, StarCraft, and pic related.

I also emulated tons of SNES and Genesis games.
