Are exclusives the only gamecube games worth playing? It seems like most multiplat games were better on the PS2.

>> No.9274913

GameCube and Xbox have more similar architectures with each other than with PS2. Porting a game to PS2 took more effort back then. If a game fits without cuts on miniDVD, there's a chance that GameCube version of a multiplat might be better than the PS2 one.

>> No.9274919

That wasn't really my experience. Beyond Good & Evil, Burnout 2 and the TimeSplitters games all looked nicer than the PS2 versions and stacked up pretty favorably to the Xbox versions as far as I remember. You also get a much nicer version of RE4, at least in my opinion.

GameCube ports are usually better but if you have an Xbox there always better than GameCube ports. sometimes having exclusive content added to them.

>> No.9274924

I haven't played a ton of multiplats on both platforms to compare, but what experience I do have the gamecube versions were almost always better. Tales of Symphonia ran at 60fps on gamecube but 30fps on PS2. I had Metal Arms Glitch in the System and I-Ninja and both of those looked better on the gamecube. RE4 definitely looked nice on the gamecube

I'm sure there's some with superior PS2 versions though, and if there's an xbox version as well it's usually better than both

Nah, the GameCube is definitely stronger than the PS2. The general rule of thumb for multiplat games of the time is that PS2 < GameCube < Xbox.
That isn't to say there aren't some standouts, like MGS2 and Silent Hill 2 which are better on the PS2. The PS2 version of San Andreas also has lighting that isn't present on the Xbox, for example.

Crazy taxi is better on cube.

spider-man 1 and 2 I know are worse on the gamecube. In fact for the first spider-man, the PS2 version is the go-to. Gamecube version looks notably worse there.

>Resident Evil 4

RE4 on the PS2 was the superior version. The amount of extra content (and the significantly better controller) make it not even a contest. The only benefits that the Gamecube version had were exclusivity, and significantly better graphics (to the point that the PS2 version used video of GC gameplay as cutscenes for some of the QTEs, which was hilarious).

Honestly though it doesn't really matter since the PC version is lightyears ahead of both of them, and seems to be on sale for $5 on Steam like every other month.

It was literally designed to fit better in a child's hand. The Gamecube is literally a console for children. If you are an adult with a Gamecube you are pathetic

PS2 version of RE4 was shit.
The graphics were dumbed down, it lacked detail.
There were no fog effects or water textures, so some parts of the game ended up being empty.

I opted to get the good price line of games on the Gamecube over the PS2 because I thought maybe the smaller discs would read faster due to the laser having less travel. Maybe it had something to do with the rotational speed has some differences from inner rings to outer rings or something. I acknowledge It could just be a myth that could be debunked, but believable enough that I would opt for the Gamecube version. Most of the stuff I have for PS2 tend to be unique for the system, and I opted for multiplats for Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube prior to choosing a PS2 version, maybe just for video output reasons alone.

Also in Sega's camp, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe on PS2 is an insult to the series. Runs at half fps compared to other games and is plagued with loading screens. Either play the original 2 games on GameCube or Deluxe on Xbox for real monkey experience. There's even a mod for Super Monkey Ball 2 on GameCube which contains all of Deluxe's levels.

Not him, but it only has a 3D remake of the first game. Kinda neat but they really could have thrown the rest of the ROMs on that disc too.

almost all dynamic lighting effects removed
polycount cut in half
most of the physics effects removed
moving objects like candle flames removed and replaced with static sprites
3D modeled tree branches replaced with static sprites
worse particle effects
less enemies
altered weapon values (that almost universally make the game easier)
and dozens of other things i cant even remember right now. that's not "twigs", that stuff comprises a huge portion of the game and a huge part of what made RE4 cool. you are a dumb fag.
