Playing Soul Reaver for the first time, it's pretty good so far but man is this game dark. Doesn't help that you can only rotate the camera left and right. I had to google what to do several times already because I just couldn't see shit.

The popular choices are popular for a reason.

Final fantasy VII, Resident Evil directors cut, 2 and 3, Tekken 3, Tony hawks pro skater 1 and 2, need for speed 3, ridge racer type 4. Twisted metal 2, tenchu stealth assassins.

honestly just Google "best PS1 games" play everything you find there and then worry about lesser known games after you're done.

Yes single player is very good although I personally found it a tad difficult near the end of the game but it's nothing you can't handle. I will add that the controls haven't aged the best either but with some practice you'll get the hang of it eventually. It has stuff to help you out in that regard like auto-targeting for weapons.

>Metal Gear Solid
>Gungage
>Digimon World 1&3
>Dino Crisis 1&2
>Resident Evil 1-3
>Parasite Eve 1&2
>Deception 1&2
>Silent Hill
>Hellnight
>Ghost in the Shell
>Chaos Break
>Jojo
>Gunners Heaven
>Alundra
>Tomba 1&2
>Legacy of Kain
>Koudelka
>Galerians
>Ape Escape
>X files
>Hard Edge
>Alien Trilogy
>Power Shovel
One day I’ll get Crash 2&3 too. Any recommendations that I might enjoy?

Awful games, don't listen to this guy. They have so many annoying instakill enemies that they pepper around most levels as gotchas.
Oh sure, you could dodge roll 3 times and get to cover, but if you're unlucky you can get unavoidable deaths if they run right at you and have a flak jacket, and in that situation you physically cannot manually aim at their head fast enough to kill them before they kill you. Or if they have a grenade launcher and you don't know there's a map trigger to spawn a grenade launcher guy right around some corner. This makes the games into tiresome trial and error.

You need to base yourself on counter attacks. You shouldn't go in all guns blazing like it's DMC or a generic slasher, enemies are invicible while they attack; you need to let them attack, dodge, then attack once you have an opening, see the video.

Then it's all about ressource management between HP, VP and MP

It's a fun pick up and play arcade style game. It's by the cotton devs and the game has this great presentation which reminds me of the computers in evangelion. As far as twinstick games go the way the different shot types kick you back makes fights feel extra chaotic and racing against the ticking clock is a ton of fun. I think it controls great and is a solid but simple game.

I really like Chocobo Racing. Never got into Final Fantasy but man is it fun. Square's other action game Einhander is also pretty fun from what I've played, and Omega Boost which I learned about here on /vr/. There's still tons I need to play on it, from Silent Bomber to basic stuff like Spyro and Tomb Raider. As a kid I mostly just played stuff like Crash, Tony Hawk, and Mega Man. My cousins had a lot of other games like Rayman and MGS

>> No.9278717

>>9272316
yea its an early 3d action game with tank controls and attack combos. however you get through most of the game using the basic 3 hit combos. the best way to kill most enemies is to lock them in a corner or wall and mash at them while blocking occasionally because some of them can break through your stun lock sometimes.

there's also the adrenaline system to keep in mind. there is this blue bar on the side of the screen that starts to deplete if you don't fight any monsters for a awhile. the speed it decreases at grows faster each level. if it depletes completely your health will start to drain until you fight another monster or die.

Currently playing Spyro 3 and HOLY SHIT it is way worse than I remember (which was to say, not much). What the fuck were they thinking?
And I'm not even talking about the minigames, I'm talking about level design, sound and music design, and general gameplay downgrades
>drops map and spark pointing to missing gems, which would be fine if the level design was more akin to spyro 1 where the gems were mostly next to each other in a super linear manner, instead it's like spyro 2 where the gems are distributed all over each stage.
>drops power ups per level in favor of using them occasionally
>most levels feel generic as fuck, most enemies feel out place, too many levels with generic sheep instead of unique fauna for spark, they really dropped the ball making rhinos the enemies everywhere.
>side characters have use the same music every time you get to use them.
>lots of missing sound effects (James Byrd landing, hitting certain enemies like the first boss)
>a lot of music doesn't loop properly (James Byrd's music)

Like seriously it feels it is made up with scratched spyro 2 levels (there's even the lizards from spyro 2 and the Dinosaur with golden bones despite not even fitting in with the rest of the level). How the fuck did they drop the ball so hard?

That's why. Bluetooth is a fucking garbage technology that should have never been used, ever. It's so incredibly inconsistent, buggy, and problematic that any one tiny issue means you have shitty problems like yours sometimes in very specific situations that make no sense. Just use it wired.

Can’t buy a terraonion mode so I crudely grafted a mayumi region bypass mod chip to the board and somehow didn’t break it. I have the PAL version of tekken 3 and that’s it. Bought NTSC-J version of Ghost in the Shell and waiting for it to get delivered. The price differential between Jap and European games is huge. RPGs aren’t an option as I can’t read Japanese. Going to get castlevania next, then Einhander. Any other suggestions?

somewhat on topic i guess but what's a good /wired/ controller for ps1 emulation on pc? dont give a fuck about analog sticks or gyro or w/e the fuck, just want a nice dpad. apparently the 8bitdo pro 2 is decent but idk

I tried it for about 40 minutes yesterday, interesting game. I was expecting it to be more straightforward action-adventure, where you explore, collect items, kill enemies. Instead, enemies (in the material world) are effectively invincible and you need to use the environment to kill them, so combat is more like a puzzle. And the levels are very linear. But I'm still in the intro phases of the game, it might change.
I have to say, this game has the coolest fucking intro cinematic I've ever seen. That and the general introduction to the world are just sick. They've also got a voice actor for the guy who talks to you right at the beginning that played a villain in a cartoon from my childhood. I'm going to figure out who that is right now. Tony Jay, he voiced Megabyte in Reboot.

I wish I could speak to its quality, but it does seem like the best option. That's what I would buy if I hadn't already bought the Hori "Horipad Pro designed for Xbox" first. I don't like the layout of the Horipad because the top of the controller is narrower and my index fingers aren't in the right place on the shoulder buttons. But I've been using it and my hands aren't fucked up.

>> No.9290083

I think I'm going to go with the Pro 2 or maybe the old Logitech F310; apparently its dpad is excellent, but it's an exceptionally ugly controller lol.

>> No.9290243

Honestly I'm going to buy the Pro 2 anyways next time I do an Amazon order. I haven't seen a better wired controller for PC, on paper. The only other one I'd even consider buying is an Xbox styled one from Power-A.
Wired controllers are not very popular it seems. I don't know why, wireless ones seem like a hassle. I used a DS4 for years until the shitty little wire port wore out, because the Bluetooth is finicky.

>> No.9290261

>>9290243
yeah, the only issue I've seen regarding the Pro 2 is that the bumper buttons can be a bit finicky if you don't press them directly in the center, but I'm not too worried about it as I always thought the bumpers on even the official Xbox controllers sucked as well. PowerA was my first thought but basically every review ends up mentioning stick drift after a few months at best.
my current 360 controller has a fucked wire from being bent so the only way it works is by wrapping it under the controller and back over the top into its original diection lmao. I've had it taped that way for a few years now. if I'm playing vidya I'm not going to be moving around, so a wire is no issue, and there's likely less latency in most cases anyway
