Very good consumer television. It’s flat because it’s aperture grill instead of shadow mask. They look a lot crisper but I hear they sometimes have geometry problems. Either way, good set to have imo

It depends on a couple of things, mostly how gently the thing has been used and treated in general over the years. CRTs are *very* electromagnetically "noisy" if they've been jostled too much or poorly manufactured, and I really don't know how much you can do about that even if you have a soldering iron.

Is free tho, can't complain too much

Nah, almost all Sony WEGA HDCRTs were either widescreens, XBRs, or both.
It's probably an SD CRT, potentially one with 1-2 component inputs plus S-Video/Composite/RF.

>> No.9231846

>>9231786
I have no idea why so many people on this board assume it's HD whenever they see a widescreen WEGA monitor, when the vast vast majority of them were SD.

>>9231731
Shadow mask is the normal style of CRT display. It has phosphors of different colors while an apeture grille… splits the electrons? Or something? I am not technical enough to explain the difference well so I recommend doing a Google.

Apeture grille was invented late in the lifespan of CRTs and Sony had a copyright on the tech so mostly only late Sony TVs have it, with a tiny handful of exceptions.

Don't listen to these retards >>9231682 >>9231786. I had that exact same TV, and it's an excellent set provided there's nothing obviously wrong with it. Just make sure there geometry isn't all out of wack, that the colors aren't completely off (like all purple or green or some shit), that it's not too dim, and make sure there's no burn-in. Only criticism I had is that on the corners the convergence was a little off, but that's a side effect of these flat-glass models as opposed to the earlier curved ones, and it's nothing gamebreaking at all.

Nigga I had that TV and I could move it with little trouble, and I'm a musclelet. It's really not that heavy, just a bit awkward to grab due to the dimensions. Now, my 30" HD CRT... THAT motherfucker was definitely too much for my weak-ass alone.

Oh yeah if that's a 27FS100 or 120 then it's a great set. Full SD with composite, s-video, and component inputs. I've got a 32FS120 in the living room and was my favorite set for years before getting a PVM. The only downside is that there's only 1 component and 1 s-video input in the back so you'll need a switch for connecting multiple consoles.

It won't do 240p, so it's not ideal for older consoles. It might be ok for 6th and particularly 7th-gen games, though. If you have component cables for those, definitely use them so you can output at 480p or 1080i.

The only appeal of buying a flat-screen HD-CRT to me, if for watching anime or cartoons. For that, you'd get a far better image from a 16:9 HD Trinitron, and people are practically trying to give those beasts away.

>> No.9234497

>>9231674
I have the same thing. I like it a lot, and the sound quality ain't bad for built-in speakers. The one bad thing I can say about it is that lightguns are little bit weird with flat CRT's, since curved were more common and the games and hardware were designed with that in mind. You'll still be able to play House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, etc., but in particular, aiming at the edges of the screen will feel off, and probably be more difficult. Having both S-video and component is awesome though.

Yep you've got a really great one OP, the 120 line has stellar picture quality. These are basically the 2nd best consumer Trinitrons ever made. 240p games will be very sharp with noticeable scanlines if you look closely. Make sure to get component and s-video cables for your consoles to get the max this set has to offer

>>9234247
WEGAs are Trinitrons. The FD Trinitron/WEGA line were Sony's flatscreen aperture grille CRTS from 1998-2006. The XBR line was above the WEGA line but all the flatscreen models were HD iirc
